so????? that didnt make the 8800GTS (320 and 640MB) obsolete. They are still going strong with people who have already bought them. Just that at the same price point ppl can get better products. But thats a price enthusiast/gamers already know and willingly pay for.

If only you two could do the same before opening your mouth.

nvidia has made record profits this year. and amd is in massive losses. amd got a bailout from the german govt recently. ibm is reported to be considering buying out amd.
 
ok lets compare the specs g80-more power hungry
lower number of stream rocessors
lower performance
higher priced (640 mb versions)
g92-power efficient
higher number of stream processors
higher performance
lower priced

so if i had bought a g80 based 8800gts geforce card i would be veryy pi**ed just to find out g92 based 8800gt was just around the corner(duh) .

to summarize,

1. IGP's can run games.

1.1 albeit at lowere resolutions without too much eyecandy(thereby taking away much of the 'wow experience'.

1.2 IGP's can run older games at an acceptable level of performance.

1.3 If a person cannot afford discrete graphics, he makes himself content with the level of performance the IGP gives him.

2. Discrecte Graphics FTW. Its required for the complete 'Experience'.

3. Your points about audio are just plain wrong.

3.1 I am sure if you would divulge your location information, there would be enough members here who would'nt mind offering you a chance to listen to their hi-end audio hardware to actually show you what a difference it makes.

4. This thread does not deserve to live any further.

Well, you shouldn't be pissed off just cos technology is improving, should you? And, seriously, anybody who's spending big bucks on high end products should research it properly (life-cycle, performance, price et.). This is why we have forums like TE.

For e.g., I've just bought a 9800GTX, knowing fully well that the GT200 should be releasing in a few month's time. I won't be pissed when that happens. In fact I'll be selling off my 9800GTX (someone is gonna get a good bargain :) ) and getting the new card. U see, I have my upgrade plan well thought out. Only ill-informed ppl get pissed cos the world is changing everyday (mostly).

well that kinda my point- i saved for 9+ months to build my new computer and save up to my $1000 budget. then two months after i drop $360(after rebate) of it on my card- a card that is benchmarking better is released for $100 less. Yeah so sorry if i feel cheated - i wouldnt say i am a "victim" per say but it just doesnt feel right. I dont have unlimited resorces and had to save for a long time. i think its a pretty realistic emotion to feel cheated by nVidia. It would be no different saving up for a brand new car and paying $30,000 for it, just to have the same car come out the next year with- 200 more horse power and costing $20000.
