BSNL 3G Thread

Have you guys opted for 3G services on your existing bsnl sim or gone for a fresh 3G sim?

It seems one has to go to the main BSNL office to get one:@

Yes most of us went for a fresh 3G sim. You can visit any BSNL CSC to get it. :)

I am getting " SIM/USIM card had not been detected or is invalid " with E122 . It was working fine till yesterday .

Happened to my friend, the sim was damaged, had to get a replacement. Did you try the sim in a phone?

Hey that friend Varkey mentioned there was me.. Same prob.. The SIM was in E122 since I bought it and BSNL 3G sim stopped working after a month or so... Got it replaced, and its fine now.. Though I am getting my doubts on the device (E122). Any one else using E122 reported any such case.?

how did that happen, strange how can the imei go by doing a firmware update ...Please elaborate as to what happened, i have also strongly suggested to avoid updating k4505 firmware on umg1831 due to issues coming up.

n00b Question - can a 3g Phone (Say SE Cedar) Be Used as a Modem?

A Step by Step howto Will be Useful

TIA

Yes, 3G compatible phone can be used as USB modem. Also same with bluetooth.

1. From Menu/Settings/Connectivity/Mobile Networks, go for GSM/3G or GSM and 3G. Now 3G icon should appear on the screen.

2. Menu/Settings/Connectivity/USB Connection, select phone as a modem here.

3. Go to USB network type, select phone as a modem(USB network type compatible SE model eliminates the need of dialup connection in the computer as they recognize thereself as Ethernet when connected through USB)

4. Create data account with APN "bsnlnet" from Data Communication menu, use this account for streaming, USB data and in phone as modem. Verify internet connectivity within Mobile's IE/Opera explorer.

5. Install latest drives for SE mobile in the computer, usually latest SE PC suite will do the drivers installation job.

6. Attach phone to PC by USB data cable, let the auto installation complete, create dialup connection with number *99# ,installed phone modem, advanced modem extra initializing, at+cgdcont=1,"ip","bsnlnet". Skip this dialup creation if USB network type available in your SE phone. Work done enjoy phone as modem.

Ok, this is what happend :(

1. Yday morning i updated to latest k4505 firmware from dc-files and everything was fine

2. Yday evening after coming from office, i tested for voice calls, but it failed.

3. So i tried the previous version of k4505 firmware and when i tested voice calls were working fine :)

4. But i found frequent disconnections and modem getting very hot too

5. So i decided to going back to original UMG1831 firmware and during that end of that process it gave me message of succesfull but also in the field of IMEI: ERROR_IMEI :(

6. After this if i see in MDMA or MobilePartner, IMEI and Serial no field is empty.

7. Most worst thing is without IMEI no, i cannot register in 3G network, but its registering with 2G network(BSNL) :(

Please check my post,http://www.techenclave.com/broadband-forum/bsnl-slashes-3g-data-pricing-175166-98.html#post1687458

i have clearly mentioned that 1831 users should not upgrade to this firmware as modem is getting over heated and resets after an hour of continuous usage.

@ smnrock when you revert back the firmware to .420 tmobile, did it ask for a password to proceed or not, did you enter the same code you used for upgrading to 4505 firmware. You can try, installing the firmware again and see if it goes through. Ideally this should not happen, something has gone wrong due to which this is happening. Did you take the sim out while doing the firmware update or downgrade.

If it's working fine on 2G, one thing you can do is, use ur modem with another 3g sim, see if it works fine. Also one thing i noticed is after doing the firmware upgrade or downgrade the mobile partner settings change when you connect the modem. so check the settings under netowrk for mobile partner and select WCDMA only and WCDMA preffered. and then try connecting and see how it goes.

By the way i am logged in from bangalore airport on my BSNL 3g and the speeds here are good.

Let's see how delhi speeds are for BSNL 3G.

@Dushie,

I've upgraded the 4505 firmware before you upgarded and gave your report, Even i saw your post on broadbandforum.in asking about details steps :P

Yes when i change to original firmware it does ask me unlock code and i gave flash code.. all are went fine.

I've tried several trial and error of trying flashing firmware of 4505 and again original one(but now its not asking unlock code).. but no use.. IMEI is blank.

Another thing i wont use mobile partner at all(thats crappy) and i always prefer MDMA. I use mobile partner only if i want send & receive messages.

If you see this thread history or in broadbandforum, you might be knowing how long i've been using MDMA and other huawei modems. Ofcourse i'm one of the lucky fellow to use BSNL 3G in very early days during thier testing process(before official launch).

Still i thank you for your effort to make resolve my issue :) But i think today is bad day, this modem gone i suppose and morning when i try to open my car, my remote(autocop) was not working :(. Then opened through key and checked, to my bad.. RATS have been played very nicely and cut the electrical wires :(.. i think now i've to spend some money for this also

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Also you cannot register with BSNL 3G network if you've invalid IMEI :(

I am still facing speed issues here in Pune(Viman Nagar). Though it does not disconnect for 4-6 hours... but not at all happy with the speed....
Thank god I did not ditch my Bsnl BB till now....

^Free yes. I had been to Bombay almost 2 weeks back and had taken my netbook + the 3G modem there. Had no issues except the network availability.

^I did not check the actual download speeds since the network coverage was very low. But browsing was pretty normal.

No FUP on this plan as yet.
