Another friend of mine wants to buy a new pc. His budget is 35K. Hes an architect, so mainly he'll be using Autocad, photoshop and a bit of 3ds max, apart from the usual movies music etc. Hes not into gaming.
I suggested the following

A64 3000+
MSI rs480
Transcend 2*512
200 gb pata (he wants 200)
Benq 1640 (is it available? if not then sony 810?)
17" samsung/ lg

Any suggestions? I'll be going with him this saturday to lamington to pick up the stuff. Which shop would the the best to get everything?

Add another GB of Ram if possible... 3dMax+Photoshop+Autocad = More Ram... Add another GB if possible... And Why pata... Go in for Sata naa... Rest All looks fine...

What are you thinking getting him AMD if he' an Architect.

Get him a 3 Ghz P4 HT.
2 GB Transcend Ram 1GB * 2
HDD is Fine
Whichever DVD RW+/- He prefers
17" - 19" Samsung
Some Cheap Cabinet
A Good PSU of around 350 - 400 W.

Get all this from Computer Selecrions (Exactly opp. the Police station.)

Goldenfrag gone are the days when Intel dominated this segment... AMD is considered better for these types of applications now...

Maybe getting evrything opp of the police station will make the intel proc work better  :ohyeah:

well he can't spend more than 35K right now. Thats the usual advice I see around here. If someone asks for best gfx card for 6K...theres bound to be a reply - buy 6600gt for 10K. Whats the point?
Hes not going to do 3d design. Just plans in Acad and renderings in pShop. And I'll try my best to make him buy a gfx card later on. ( btw, is their anything good for <5K?)

So, whats the best he can do for 35k?

lol ! Actually if someone is spending 8k then it's in his best interest to spend 1-2k more and get the 6600GT ;). Sometimes people act plain ignorant and try to save that 1-2k and end up getting non-vfm stuff. Neways under 5k there is the 6200 256MB or you could pay 800 more and get a xfx 6600 for 5.8k.

6600 for 5.8K. OK, will try to fit it into his budget. But then, which mobo to go for? Problem is the msi is cheaper than any nf4 AND has onboard graphics. So ur getting 2 things for less than the price of one.

Say - how much is the foxconn board that TT is recomending?

Hmmm... 35K....

Here we go :

3000+ Venice : 7300

A8N-E : 6500

Transcend 2*512 : 4800

Seagate 200 GB PATA : 4800 ( Approx. )

6200 TC ( 256 MB Max. ) : 2800

Samsung / LG 17" Flat CRT : 6500

BenQ DW1640 : White - 3100 and Black - 3350 ( Why don't u contact Darky ? )

VIP ZB-01 + PowerSafe 500W : 4000 ( Max. )

TOTAL : 39800

If this isn't possible, go for the MSI RS480M2-IL which would cost u abt. 5300 and so the total cost would be 35800.

And what abt. the Kbd. and Mouse ????

Think the Foxconn also costs around the 5.5K ( or 4.5K ?? - Not sure ) mark.

The FoxConn Winfast NF4UK8AA-8EKRS costs around 4.5-5K .... but u will have to go for a graphic card along with it. But this seems to be a nice choice since u will be saving a good 2K on the motherboard which u can invest on the graphic card..and moreover, the Foxconn board is based on the Nforce4 Ultra which is much-much better than the Radeon Xpress 200 chipset. Well i cant really imagine a Geforce 6200 on such a system:bleh: i mean atleast a 6600 is a must ,But u can opt for the latter if u are really tight on the budget. Sony 810 is an equally good optical drive and u can opt for it if u cant get the 1640 or as always u have the 1693s:P

Dunno abt TT but the winfast nf4k8mc is available for less than 4.3k So you could pair it up with the 3000+ 1Gb ram and the 6600.

He needs kb/mouse also. A complete system. OK how about this -

A64 3000+ :7300
Foxconn nf4 : 5000
transcend 2*512 : 4800
seagate 160gb : 4000 ( i'll talk some sense into him)
xfx? 6600 : 5800
17" flat : 6500
benq 1640/ sony 810 : 3500
cabby + powersafe 400w : 3500 ( y does he need 500w?)
kb/mouse : 850
speakers : 600

This is coming to 41850. How can I get this under 40K? Is the 6200 256mb any good?

@blade....the winfast nf4k8mc is a micro ATX board without any pci slots. That'll be a problem if he needs to plug in a tv tuner or modem.

Lol mate from the same review
you see the manual, various cables, Driver CD/Floppy and the cardboard cover that protects the mATX motherboard. Pulling out the motherboard we see there is the single x16 connector for the graphics card, one x1 PCIe slot on the right and two PCI slots to the left of it.

You could have checked the first pic as well. Shows a 1x pcie, 16x slot, and 2*pci slots.
