Nothing against your Dad but why is Mumbai Customs said to be the most notorious when it comes to asking for bribe and ridiculously valuing products. I have seen couple of threads on various travel related forums as well which tell others to be cautious when dealing with Mumbai customs.

You are highly misinformed. Not a courier company on this planet uses actual weight if volumetric weight is higher.^SnS charges are based on actual weight and not on vol.weight
Since when did SnS start charging volumetric? You are highly misinformed. Not a courier company on this planet uses actual weight if volumetric weight is higher.
They have been charging it ever since I remember.Since when did SnS start charging volumetric?
^ It is the overall weight that they look into, not just the phone. I have received plenty of packages whose volumetric would be in the 1.5 kg range, but was charged the actual weight in each case (less than 500)
I'll be damnedIn that case you were charged wrongly, I would have raised a dispute with them, because actual shipping weight has been their USP for long.
