Delhi gangrape protests

Its kinda obvious that the goons were sent by the political parties under the garb of fellow non violent protestors.
They are sh!t scared whenever the aam janta gets down to business. Maybe they understand that if purely due to their movement they get a successful change done which was long overdue, the common man will realise what power he wields. And that cant be good for the Ghooskhor paalitician.

Heard that the laathicharging police personnel called the protestors as something to the tune of 'Bandar'..

Do something for it.

Exactly what would you expect anyone to do? Do you expect me to all of the sudden muster patriotic feelings within myself, storm out of my house and stage protests while risk instigating violence, i.e, do more harm than good?!? I WOULD LOVE TO HELP if only there were a guarantee that i could positively solve one small case, even one as small as a Gang-Rape in light of female infanticide that ravages this nation! But if i did then...no wait...if we all did partake and dole out capital punishment(god forbid public beheadings!) for rapists, wouldn't that mean we stop being a democratic, peaceful and secular nation? Every step forward is two steps backwards.

Do not let the media feed off unchecked emotions. This way all of us can solve problems one step at a time without loosing sight of larger, predominant issues. Staging protests is nothing more than an outlet for idiots who are superficially patriotic. No different than your post which i've quoted.

Just went outside to get vegetables, and saw protests starting in the market. A RAF van has pulled up. I trotted back home, pronto. It is getting volatile out there.

Ha yaar, acha kara, till the time we and our family is safe, its fine. Duniya jaye bhad me.

Hats off to you man, thanks for calling me and other idiots. You please, sit home and relax.

Nice thread. So in over 50yrs of independence, this is the first molestation case, so that people are soo enraged to do something, stage protests and what not.

How many more serious issues are existing in our country? Why won't they protest against those issues too?

I really feel sorry for the girl, But everyone is hyping the issue so much thanks to social media, television & print media.

Today Sachin announced retirement. So the focus will slowly shift in that direction and in a few days everyone will forget about this girl. For anyone arguing against this, let's see, I'll bump this same thread after a few weeks to prove it.

^^ No issue is as grave as disrespecting a female. And i am quite sure that you or somebody else with similar warped thinking would have said the same thing if a thread about any other issue had been created.
As for hyping this up, maybe you havent heard about the term The last straw.

if you havent realised, Sachin's news hasnt attracted any major attention. Nor has the recent polls beyond a certain limit.

Very distasteful and lowly post to say the least. But i am happy you have a job here.. to be on the lookout of an opportunity to be bumping this thread.. :)

The government is scared as it is a civilian protest. The Shepard always feels the need to keep his sheep in control.

Even if law changes, Delhi rapists CAN'T be hanged'

Under the existing laws, there is no provision for a death penalty for a rape case unless the victim is killed.

I am not against or for these protests. But I am not sure whether people continue & fight till their demands are met. I have seen same outrage among my friends when all the hoopla about Anna began. Wow, I still remember. Now no one friends is even remotely interested in it. And after few months are indulged in same old stuff, from breaking traffic rules to little bribes.

I am not comparing the two cases. It's the same people again. Then after few days...

PS - applies totally to my friends. It may or may not apply in your case.

On human grounds as well, what has happened to that girl is totally insane and not at all acceptable. Before anyone should say anything, imagine the trauma & pain she must have gone through.

Anyways the latest is that her condition is very critical as infection has further spread. Hope she gets well soon.
Reference.

Why didn't any of these 'protesters' help the girl when she was thrown out of the bus? Why blame the govt/police only?

Your point is right but the question is not. But let me answer your question with a question
1) How many of us will stop our vehicle before Zebra line ?
2) How many of us ever report a rash driving ?
3) Do we preach and ensure that our kids follow the rules - or do we tell them ' If he's doing that way, you do the same...'
4) How many of us, quoted this incident and shared views with our teenage kids.
... Applies to all of us.

One does not have to do a lot; even a little done in abundance will have a long lasting impact. If today 'WE' do not change and do the right thing, we cannot and should not point fingers on others. For, one cannot force someone else to change but can guarantee his/her commitment.

It overwhelming to see so many people uniting. They may or may not be able to bring a change. But this definitely shows that they seek change and will put in effort whenever required.

I believe the protestors have got their point across. It is about time they let the lawmakers respond. I for one believe that capital punishment for sexual assault will not serve as a deterrence. We've got death penalty for homicide. Does that in anyway bring down the rate of homicide? No, it doesn't. As is, it is exercised in the "the rarest of rare cases."

Timely and successful implementation of law is necessary to act as deterrent. And having a provision for a strong punishment (although in extreme cases), surely will have some impact.

On rape case vs homicide - It is not appropriate to relate multiple issues and then do nothing about any one of them. We may have to pull the weed one by one.

But at least there will be a provision in future.

Protesters at the gate of Rashtrapati Bhavan is symbolic of the way that people are now fed up with the Government. This in unprecedented because it must be among the few times that a protest at this scanle has been launched by the people and not a leader trying to gain popularity. The ineptitude of the Government to provide basic safety for citizens is downright incredulous considering the fact that we have such strict gun laws and a general tendency for non-violence.

It is not surprising that strict laws and stricter ways to enact them are not easily adopted by the Government when so many murderers, extortionists and rapists are among those who form this Government. Last night I saw on TV that 54% of UP Government have criminal court cases pending against them. 54%!

Where everyone is blaming the Delhi Police, how come they don't understand the people pulling the strings of the police? It's the same Government which is giving orders like lathi charge on young students (even girls and old women).

The Government doesn't realize that if the large population of India comes to the streets, using policemen as their shields will be of no use. Anyways, India has a low police-policemen ratio of 142.69 i.e (142.69 Police Personnel for every 1 lakh population) - Press Information Bureau English Releases

The best part is that this Government is still reluctant to pass these laws. There might be 2 reasons behind this - either their own "prominent" ministers and their sons/nephews/siblings have (or will have) these charges against them and will suffer directly or they simply want to show that they will not bow down to demands of the people, which is ridiculous considering that we elected them in the first place. I, for one, feel that it is a combination of both these factors.

My rant is over. I myself, feel powerless and slightly ashamed that all I can do is type a few words on an internet forum and social networks like FB etc. :annoyed:

so if i understand this correctly, the protesters are asking the government(shouldn't they be asking the judiciary?or filing a PIL or something...)to 'kill' the guilty party?that's a little bit on the extreme side,i think.and when i first heard of the 'protests',i couldn't understand what was there to protest about...a crime has been committed, the guilty people will be dealt with according to the law...,at least the media should say what the protest is about because when i hear my friends planning to join the 'protests',it becomes clear to me that they actually are not keeping their goal in their mind(hello!its a protest after all) but are just 'protesting because of this case',which makes no sense to me.just my 2 cents.(also i believe no one in this world can decide if another man deserves to live or die, even if the other man commits heinous crimes.it's just not for us to decide, keep him locked for all i care, but hanging?why hang him?to get revenge?to get official revenge?)i do support bashing the government where they are wrong, but i won't support a cause to get someone 'hanged'.

Actions/future course of action taken/announced by Govt after 7 days of pressure by media and people's heavy protestation for last 2 days:
1. Day to day hearing of the case.
2. Panel of 3 Jurists to suggest actions to be taken and changes in law to be made to stop all these rape crimes.
3. Strengthening of police patrolling.
4. Our PM, Mr Mute Singh is going to address the nation today at 3 PM.
5. Talks of special session of parliament to discuss laws related to molestation.

This all happened with the kind of uproar, determination and protests shown by people of India in last 2 days. Many congratulation to all them. Atleast they got out of their home and did something.

I think you need to read/understand a bit more. The protests are (besides giving capital punishment to those 6 people) happening to put pressure on the govt to amend the laws related to rape, provide security especially in Delhi where a rape/gangrape is reported in every 20 min.
The people who did this heinous crime does not deserve to be let alive. Just keeping them in jail for few years would not be good.

To give death sentence to such brutal criminal offense . Also pass a law for this cruel crime

But as per my understanding, harsher the punishment, lesser are the chances of it being handed out to an offender.

It might work in this particular case but how'll it help in future?

I guess the solution should be more focused on prevention rather than punishment.
