CPU/Mobo [DISCUSSION] AMD 4700S Desktop Kit

This product makes little sense brand new. It's GDDR6 memory so the latency is really bad so some tasks which depend on memory latency will come to a crawl. The CPU performs worse than a Ryzen 1700, the PCIe lanes situation is dire, there's no M2 slot.

For the full price it's a bad deal in my opinion. For 8-9k. Maybe not bad, but I recently picked up a Ryzen 1700x + Mobo + 8GB RAM combo for like 12k, so I'd just rather prefer used market instead with much better board features.

I quoted this exact deal when discussing this kit with someone...even not a 1700x but a 2700 kit can be made under 15-16k at max. Which gives you plenty of storage, memory and cooler options.

Here's the link for the modded BIOS with more options. If anyone got it, give it a try and report back. If I get it first, I'll do so.

There is an option to enable SVM with the unlocked BIOS.
Hi !
Has anyone tried flashing this BIOS yet?
I have 4700S. If after flashing error, can I go back to original BIOS?

I think none of us have got their 4700S yet to flash this BIOS, atleast I haven't. If there is any error, It should not flash at all.

Ive used this method to unlock many pages and options of my laptop's BIOS. Of course your mileage may vary.

OT: Do you mod BIOS yourself? If so is it possible to unlock options if any in an HP or Fujitsu (Insyde) BIOS?

It should be possible. Both my Asus laptop and the 4700S have aptio bioses, ive done the unlocking for my laptop so doing it again for the 4700S was a known process so I'm sure it will work.

I personally have no experience with insyde BIOSes.

Today, was pissed with delay and sent mail asking for status and if more delay, to cancel the order.

Then, later now they sent pictures of some beat up box and asking if its OK!

Got the same email with the same attachments, have asked if these are sealed. In the email they say contents inside are okay. Not sure how they know without opening.

No seal? So every box has same issue or they trying to offload one damaged box to whosoever agrees?

Just noticed, the box has written "8GB or 16GB Memory", is it a lucky draw? :tearsofjoy:

damn! they are sending the same pics now!

they sent the below 2 pics of board and thought it was OK. so asked them to ship.

now, i'm worried they are sending new or used!

Got the same pics, they say no where you will get sealed, we will cancel order if you want :)

Whoever is into retail business please explain if you're familiar with certain scenarios? This seems like a lure attempt to sell openboxed/refurbished/returned items.

Getting confirmation over email from customer after payment so that they cannot return the item back to them by saying it's used/open.

If they had shipped before asking they could've got cancellation or return on false pretext of selling a new item. With this confirmation over the mail that cannot happen later.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Seems like they wanted to offload these units for cheap and as they got sufficient sales they bumped the price back to normal-ish.
Now even if a few customers cancel there will be a few who will continue with the purchase and they'll eventually be successful with offloading this inventory.

Similar thoughts, but I may just go for it. But they have confirmed its new and has 16GB ram.

Well in my opinion. Even if its been powered on, just to check workability, shouldn't be that much of an issue. On a wholesale basis etc, they can't check each and every piece, the items must be from a lot and they must have taken out say 3-4 from one batch to test. What is really off is that they have provided one set of pics which they are forwarding to each consumer. My guess is that the pics are provided from the company to the consumer care people who handle the consumers directly and they are getting the approval from customers with the same set of pics. Since the kits themselves are hard to come by, the boxes would be as well.
