English TV series discussion

^^ Is Breaking Bad really that good? I watched first 3 episodes and found myself doing other stuff while it was on...it was not so gripping at all.. Does it get better?
 
The first season is a bit boring compared to the rest. Picks up pace after S1. S4 finale is one of the best I've watched for any series.
 
Breaking Bad does require a bit of patience from you especially in the initial period. But once the story picks up pace, you will be left wanting more. As has been mentioned before, it has been shot wonderfully, has been written very well, has some amazing acting performances and in between dispersed are some unbelievably tense moments that one is likely not to forget. All in all, it is very good storytelling.
Just hang in through the first season (it is quite short anyway) and am sure you'll be hooked on from then on.

That's a usual trend with AMC shows. The pacing is extremely slow and they take their time to introduce the characters properly. However, once they have your attention, that's when you're sold. I had blindly recommended this show to everyone I know and they ended up liking it, nay, loving it. Then I personally took sometime and made sure I would patiently watch it. Season 1 doesn't have a flashy start, but once you start going deeper into season 2, you'll be salivating for the next episodes. That's how interesting it gets.
 
Alright guys. Thanks for replying. I guess, I'll stick to the show for now. But due to shortage of my free-time(damn studies), I've to pick one between Dexter and Breaking Bad as for now. Which one should I go for? Or are both equally good? :P
 
Dexter is not as good as it used to be, the last season especially was its weakest. Only reason i'll watch it this year is for Yvonne Strahovski.
Breaking Bad first without a doubt.
 
Breaking Bad over Dexter, but if you need a very good first season, opt for Dexter. Dexter S1 remains one of the good opening seasons for any show. Ofc S4 with the Trinity Killer remains THE best in Dex by far. Or at least acc. to me.

A high school Chemistry teacher is diagnosed with cancer and he decides to cook and sell meth with his class dropout, to make some quick bucks to protect his wife and the children from the future financial troubles. A lot of drama and mystery ensues during the process.
 
I had started BB a long back, couldn't proceed more than 2 episodes.
May be I had lot to watch in queue that time. Now I guess is a good time re-start the show. I never heard anyone saying anything bad about this show.

btw, anybody watches White Collar? A new episode came last week. Yet to watch that.

Pretty good fun. Small seasons and no angst to draw out the story line. A season can be completed on a weekend.

Love the show. Will wait for a couple of more episodes from the new season to come out before I start watching again though. Hopefully the twist from the end of last seasons gets resolved quickly and things go back to normal.

A good mixture if both. Not so much magic that it turns cheesy. Not so much drama that it turns into Dynasty. Of course, already knowing about Arthur, Merlin, Guinevere, Lancelot, etc adds a lot to the show. Should still be fun if you are unfamiliar with Arthur lore.
