A few recommendations from Ars

http://arstechnica.com/the-multiver...e-new-shows-youll-want-to-check-out-this-fall

I am waiting for Luke Cage. But will the show become popular without Jessica in it, that remains to be seen.
From the list I am/might watch the below:
1. Startup - Never heard of it. Tried checking out on the site but seems to give me error so I guess I need to procure it from somewhere else.
2. MacGyver - I don't know much about the original so can't speak if it lives up to the nostalgic value but its a run of the mill procedural. Watched E01, its terrible - acting and plot wise Dropped it.
3. Van Helsing - I haven't been a fan of most syfy series. Most under deliver on their premise. Watched E01, nothing great.
4. Luke Cage - I am in a minority who dint like Jessica Jones that much so not really hyped for it.
5. WestWord - HBO + Anthony Hopkins = warrants a long rope even if it ends up sucking a bit. Though the story looks like Jurassic Park with robots.
6. Timeless - I have always been a fan of time travel stories. I was a big fan of a series called JourneyMan on NBC back in 2007. If it turns into a procedural I might dump it quickly. There are other time travel series this season too - Frequency (based on Frequency, the movie) and Time after Time
7. Chance - Typecast Hugh Laurie but looks interesting
8. Pure Genius - The trailer looks pretty meh! but might give it a try.
9. Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - I like British comedies more than American ones and this looks closer to my taste. The trailer looks hilarious, lets see how it turns out.

Didn't think Quantico Season 2 will have enough juice but first episode was interesting (repeating the same theme of season 1 where the colleagues are criminals)

Seen pilots of all of these -
1. Startup - Interesting show, not enough to judge it just yet.
2. MacGyver - Cheesy brilliant-guy-does-missions-using-tech. Similar to Scorpion, except Scorpion more believable and fun. Okay for time pass.
3. Van Helsing - Two episodes in still trying to figure out who the fcuk is Van Helsing. Vampire Apocalypse based in modern times. Interesting, will watch more.

TE's GT section is becoming a ghost town. :)

Here's what I have watched this season:

1. Westworld - One word - amazing. The story has introduced many threads by episode 2 and something I will be eagerly waiting each week.

2. Designated Survivor - Keifer Sutherland in his 24hr like avatar. In this case instead of terrorists, its about politicians. Interesting and worth watching. Second series on my weekly calendar.

3. Luke Cage - While I liked Daredevil I wasn't really fan of Jessica Jones because I felt the story could be surmised in half the amount of episodes. I tried 2 episodes of this and had the same feeling. So nothing I would recommend as a binge watch. If you don't have anything decent, give it a shot.

4. Timeless - One thing I really liked about the pilot was the good guys don't get an outright win but rather a consolation one. Though the mystery is only mildly interesting its watchable.

5. Frequency - I liked the Dennis Quaid and Jim Caveziel movie but dint have high hopes on this one. The first episode plays out differently from the movie which was good but then veers into movie's story. I am going to watch this for nostalgia's sake.

6. Startup - I have mixed feeling about the show. I read couple of reviews after watch E01 and I seem to agree with lot of those. The sex scenes seem to be added just to be edgy and gratuitous. Maybe something to watch if the list has run dry.

7. MacGyver - Watched the pilot and the villain's motivation is so lacking. Terrible acting, storyline and setups.

8. Van Helsing - Watched first 15 minutes before I gave up. Makeup of vampires is bad and action is even worse. Though Syfy seems to grow on these super cheesy shows, watch it if you are fan of other syfy shows.

Well, Vanessa Van Helsing :) (A distant cousin of Van Helsing).

Any one watch Friday Night Dinner - How is this Comedy Genre ? Is this worth to get ?

As Tamsin Greig in this show...Is she worth watching...

@abhi1984 Thanks dude for pointing out Westworld!!!

I had just read the blurb on psarips and dismissed it as the brand new crop of TV remakes of standard 70s/80s pulp fiction stuff (MacGyver/Lethal Weapon/Frequency) that seem to be the fad in 2016.

Just watched the 2 episodes of Westworld and this is so similar to an RPG...Right down to choosing your avatar(the hat scene) before starting the game as well as the karma. You can be good or bad depending on what your basic nature is.I remembered the first time I harvested a Little Sister in Bioshock and the cutscene spooked me out so much that I reloaded the checkpoint and saved every Little Sister I encountered from then on.

The only miff in this experience for me is that the newcomers have God mode on via cheatcodes...:D:D

Apart from those you mentioned these are the new shows that I am watching now-
1.) High Maintenance-Interesting collage of myriad experiences of New Yorkers. Would recommend it to anyone especially the 3rd and 4th episodes.

2.) Quarry-Pretty good so far.Since it is AMC who have a penchant for slow boil this might shape up to be much better than the brand new shows that have debuted this year

3.) Better Things-Created by Louie CK this is a pretty okay timepass. But the last episode was better than the standard fare.

4.) Atlanta-Pretty meh so far.

5.) Luke Cage-Overlong and boring...

What is with Marvel and their TV superheroes?
I liked Daredevil Season 1 a lot but season 2 was bog standard. Didn't like Jessica Jones as much as the reviewers. The TV superheroes from the Marvel universe have superpowers but the main background of their stories is goddamn run of the mill.....Catholic guilt,Manipulative ex,resentful stepbrother....take your pick..
The only good thing about this was Mahershala Ali who got replaced by a wet wood halfway through the show.Diamondback is a villain who belongs in the kiddy comic books not the Netflix Marvel universe the tone of which was set by Daredevil.
Claire is back again as the Superhero Management Consultant(NYC Branch) but this time it seems she is going a bit too personal with a superhero client.

6.) The Exorcist-Yet another remake and to be honest I need to stick around for a bit more before passing any verdict on this one.

7.) This Is Us-Has the best dialogues I have seen in TV shows.High Maintenance and This Is Us are the shows this year that have a soul. But only 2 episodes have aired so far hence I still need to see how the season stacks up.

The 70s one directed by Michael Crichton himself was a standard affair. And as @sharktale1212 puts that one was - Jurassic Park with robots. This one seems to be park + Blade Runner (specially the quotes on hosts having dreams) + RPG gaming setup. After reading some of the reviews online, missing continuity shots without the lead ins - example scenes for hosts seem to jump from their daily lives to the lab and back, it might not really become the big hit HBO wants. That too after spending 100 million on it.

The mystery I liked about was about Ed Harris' character, aside from what is happening with Evan Rachel Woods character or happened with her father.
All interactions with the hosts say they cannot hurt any "newcomers". But all the hosts seem to have no qualms shooting at him. Though the bullets don't work, the action itself is intended to cause harm. So that raises a question - Is he really a guest? Or the rules of Westworld still not clear?

And they burned hole in that theory pretty quickly in the new episode.

Watched Dirk Gently and it left me confused. There are those which are a slow burn and give you bits of mystery, like WestWorld and then there is this which leaves you confused. It might be a good binge watch, maybe but that remains to be seen.

Whats with the theme of "betraying friend/families". I watched "The Fate of The Furious" (what a shitty title) and this somehow brought back memories of that trailer-[DOUBLEPOST=1481563106][/DOUBLEPOST]Completed Dirk Gently. Its an odd odd show and I can't put it better than what rottentomatoes has to say (certified fresh):
"Odd and ambitious, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency sometimes overdoses on pure weirdness but offers absurdist rewards to those who stick with it.

My suggestion - try and watch it together else you will be left scratching your head
