English TV series discussion

Cyberpunk Edgerunners - 9/10
Pretty great show. Under all the mayhem and cybernetic augmentations there's a beating heart.

Pantheon- 8/10
Only 4 episodes in but this has all the trappings of turning into a cult hit. Check out the CEO of Alliance which is the largest telco in India. :p

The Grand Tour S05E01- I think this is the best episode I have seen so far.

The Patient- 4/10
Even with such a premise this show is pretty slow & boring with heavy hitters like Steve Carell & Domhnall Gleeson.

Andor : If the first 3 episodes are anything to go by, this is probably the best Star Wars TV series since Mando ..
Andor is created fabulous. The character development is so strong (even the droids..lol) and the background score really gels well with the scenes. The way, backstories are stitched together is spectacular.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power: 5/10

I watched it with an open mind as if I knew nothing of Hobbits or LOR. I was open to idea of Galadriel not being elegant or queenish material. I didn't mind dwarf wives not having beard. I was open to anything that didn't fit in the books or movies. I was totally fine with black elves and dwarfs. By the end, I still couldn't make out if the Nori was a girl or a boy or someone who's transitioning. Imagine, I was that okay with 'jabardasti-wala' wokeness. It would have been worth it if it was good.

But there's nothing noteworthy for the series. I can't believe Amazon spent 1 billion commissioning it. It's supposed to be the most expensive movie/series ever. The story isn't that particularly interesting. Acting isn't that good. I don't think directors know the concept of storyboarding. There's no continuity. VFX isn't 1 billion dollar worthy. Peter Jackson who shot all three big movies in one go had lower budget and still everything seemed perfect for those films. Those 20 year old movies have better VFX. How is that even possible?

I checked more on the directors, makers, writers. These guys don't have much experience. For some, it's their first work. They got no awards. It's David Yates again. Feels like these folks are learning filmmaking as they go. How could Amazon trust newbies on a project such as this? Whom did they have to suck?

I liked Rings of Power.
If you checked Lord of Rings lore, you'll know they couldnt have done it any better. IMO you need to give it time. Season started without the big bad. Ended with one. S2 onwards it will be lot more fun.

It's great if it's as per the lore.

My point was different. I felt it was boring. It had many cliched scenes. No real chemistry. Fans didn't like brash Galadriel but I was okay with that. The actress is super hot, otherwise she got nothing going for her. Liv Tyler also played brash, teenage elf but her skills went past the looks. There are so many other things.

RoP:
I think E1 grand finale was was too slow (repeat), in terms of story play and continuity. There are multiple (unrelated) story arcs running at the same time (Numenor (with it's internal stories), Hobbits (with it's internal stories), Dwarfs (with it's internal stories)). And honestly with the proto-Hobbits (including meteor man), I am just forwarding the scenes since they are so static, and the background music is way too childish and honey layered.

Amazon has not been able to stitch the world/universe/time era together, and made it disjointed/hard to relate to. It is aligned to the lore (am fine with the woke), but I cannot see any progression. And the cliche: "Our Lord..S", and then he is not, it is someone else. That is like 80's cinema. We waited 8 Friday's for this?

Somehow the back-lore concerning the Elves is well down. Its seems the Elf story line was written (read Galadriel), and the rest was lumped on. It shows in the screenplay and character development. The mithreal back-story is done well. Whenever a Galadriel scene is seen, the show shines and gets better camera angles, beauty, unique style. Rest is vanilla.

17 more to go, if you know what I mean!

wow I didn't knew RoP had so many plots, I was just watching it like a bot and Yeah Galadriel is hot, Jokes aside I find it Ok as I was watching only for fun so didn't gave much thought about the storyline but now that you mentioned I am revisiting those episodes in my mind and this make sense.

On the other hand I see "See" completed there final episode so will start watching now, Did anyone already watched? How is it.

Anyone else here who STILL follows The Walking Dead?

Final two episodes left... are you excited? :p

I want everyone to be eaten by a fantastically epic zombie horde while Negan somehow escapes and watches from a distance before getting up, smiling and walking off. End Credits should roll at this point. No more. Be done.

A Very Secret Service (Netflix) - French - 8/10

A dark satire. Vey French! Honestly self depricating with french things and opinions. A farsical delight.

Great production design. Nuanced performance by cast takes it to different level.
