The reason the french manager refused the handshake of Carlos Parreira's at the end of the match is because the latter had said earlier that is was a shame that France was at the world cup, but that's life, Thierry Henry had simply cheated.

The Irish who lost out due to Henry's handball goal during their WC qualifying match will surely feel some sense of satisfaction at this outcome.

This usually starts up the perennial debate each time the WC comes around, mainly that football does not use replays to amend errorneous decisons and this stance must be changed. The US kicked up a stink about it when their goal was disallowed due to jostling in the penalty box by both teams.

The reason given is that football is supposed to imitate life, what the ref decides on the pitch is final and is considered the 'first match'. The replay is the 'second match' and is hindisght and not to be considered at all.
 
na , replays will take the human nature of the match and the endless discussions that follows will be lost forever , french were an ageing team and thank god domenech the astrologer coach will hopefully not be back again
