It does. Older the hdd more are the chances of it suffering mishandling during storage & transportation as general ecomm sites are not aware enough about fragile nature of HDDs.
But than Mishandling problem will be same with new hdd also.
I understand hdd are delicate but they don't erode/degrade over time ,do they ?
Specially when never used before.

I don't think so unless you are putting it for any enterprise usage. Besides you will not be able to say no as it is not a perishable and you have the warranty to fall back on. The risk of data loss will always be there and unless someone shows me statistical correlation between date of import/mfg and hdd failures, I am not inclined to believe it.

Just got mine now.
Manufacturing Month-Aug 21.

The packaging came very badly though. Only in a paper package thing.
nothing to protect hdd.
Working though.
 
The plastic case in which HDDs are kept is specially designed to act as a shock absorber.
It came in this cardboard thing with the outer cover packaging. NO plastic case.
