Thanks ubergeek,

Do my PSU needs a replacement for 4670/gt220 ?

i just want to watch hd movies with clarity that's it. don't want to spend too much.

Thanks,

krishna

Whoa you have a 220w smps!!!! then i think it might not be cut out for a 4670 cause it needs a good 350w smps . if you are not willing to get a PSU get a gt210 or 220 hence you wont be gaming so yeah gt210 or 220 should do the job for you it is mainly aimed at users like you and has hdmi so get a gt210

hi I have a query.
I am planning to build a new rig with amd phenom 965 3.4ghz BE,
asus crossfirex mother board,
4 gb ddr2 ram,
ill prefer ati readon card.
i hv smsung moniter 1900x1080 res,
wana play games like prototype, re5, far cry2 etc at that resolution with anti lashing on.
Budget approx 10k.
please advise on which gpu and psu i ll need, i can use two gpus if they are less costly and fulfill my need. i hv two-three year prospective in my mind, if a gpu card fulfill my need then in future i ll have option of adding another similer card if i need.

dude future proof is something you cant expect because technology is evolving at a really fast space since you are going for a budget of 10k i think
5770 or a 5750 will full fill your requirements also be sure to get a good enuf power supply such as a corsair vx450w and if you are planning on cross fire
theny your power requiremnets will increase accordingly.so you have a choice between 5770 or 5750

Hi all,

Below are my requirements:

What is your budget? under 5k
Current rig Specs
CPU E8400
Motherboard ASUS P5N73-AM
RAM - 2GB
Monitor - Samsung P2350 full HD
Which PSU/SMPS will you be using? some local stuff 220V
Primary use? (Casual gaming, Hardcore gaming, Just for display, Movies/HTPC)
Strictly for display and HD movies, no gaming (PS3 will be here)
What resolution do you game on? no gaming
Interested in Crossfire/SLI? Yes
Open to both Nvidia/ATI? Yes

Thanks in advance for your time folks.

Regards,
Krishna

Please check what PSU you have,
220v is not the right thing..
please check properly..
seeing your rig i can make out you have a decent PSU,
so a HD4670 will be best in that budget..

Since you dont game i would have recommended something less powerful...
but take it as a emergency..
suppose an awesome game doesnt come on PS3..
and HD4670 will be able to play it for you..:eek:hyeah:

The HD5770 is the best choice you have sine you want it to be futureproof..
no point with going with 2 cards..
you may need to add in about 1-2k in your budget though..

A corsair VX450w will be a good PSU choice..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Hi thax for the reply.

I hv been thinking, about it

actualy i already have a pc with intel C2D 2.93 ghz, Asus MB and 450W PSU,
Would the 5770 GPU will give same performance on this config.

Or do i need to increase PSU coz my vendor said that this GPU will not work with 450W PSU.

Please advise

oh im sory, just now i checked on PSU its written 150-220v, so i think it is 220W PSU, right, please advise

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

^^ Nope I suggest you get a Gigabyte 460 watts PSU, its a FSP blue OEM AFAIK. You certainly cant risk a 5770 on a local PSU.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Yes, you cant risk your card..

a Gigabyte superb 460w in the minimum you should have..

about what you saw on your PSU..

150-220v..

thats not your PSU wattage, thats the input volts..

every PSU has got that reading..

please check clearly...it will be mentioned..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

ok ill change my PSU but my main concern is that will i get same perform on intel E7500 2.93ghz config.

one more thing is it possible to have two PSUs in one pc in order to run my GPU. if it is possible than i will be able to save at least 2.5k.

idea is to hv two 220W PSUs that adds up to 440W.

Please parden me if am wrong , just a thought.

Thanx again for your support

plus i can go for nvidia GPU if it gives better performance

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Sorry for the late reply..

Exams on.. :(

to be honest i dont really know if it can be done safely,

i checked it on google, it said you need to hotwire the PSU,

so that sounds risky..

Two PSU cant simply work because only one can be connected to the motherboard and the motherboard has only one power on cable(which connects to the cabby switch)..

so im really in doubt how will you switch on the second PSU

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

quick doubt guys, is poworcolour a decent enough brand for ati cards?

friend looking at buying the 4670, should i tell him to go ahead?

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

I want to buy a GPU for around 5K to 6K.
I will be using it for 6 months and later will buy a DX11 card and use the older 1 for physX.
Which card should i go for???
Is it possible to use a 5850 while having an nvidia PhysX card for dedicated Physx???

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

^^For that budget, you can get a 4850 or 9800 GT. I will recommend 4850, but it is somewhat over your budget.

And regarding Physx, its Nvidia's technology. You cannot pair ATI and Nvidia together. You basically want to SLI, so for that go for Nvidia.

Powercolor is a good brand..

some refer it as the EVGA of ATI, although cheaper:eek:hyeah:

9800gt is the obvious choice as you want PhysX acceleration.

But to use it as a dedicated PhysX card later when you buy a primary card after 6 months, it will be tough to get it work with a HD5850,

this is because the new drivers, disable the PhysX card when a Non-nvidia GPU is used as a primary card.

But since you will be getting the DX11 card after 6 months, the GT series will be on its way and a card equivalent to HD5850 can be bought.

:)

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Will the GT3xx series be priced similar to the 5xxx series???

And also which brand should i go for???

Even if i buy a Ati 4850 can i crossfire it with the 5850 ???

Is the 9800 as powerful as the 4850????????

I cant spend more than 5K

1. Nope higher.

2. Any brand's whose RMA centre in your city is not a jerk (avoid Rashi products, XFX, Asus etc)

3. I think you can, but either ways wont make sense.

4. 9800GT yes, again choose the one which has better RMA in your city.

5. 5K will get you a 9600GT (4.8-5k), 9800GT is slightly higher at 5.5k

Yes, poworcolour is a good brand. But wait for other member's suggestions.
Powercolor is a decent brand. I am using 2 x HD4890s and they are running fine. They offer quite good VFM for the ATI line up. Bundle is nice too.
