Thanks but I just replied I dont think Ill be able to go for that card, way out of the budget now :( . How is the PowerColor PCS HD4670 512MB DDR3 card (@ 4400rs) or SAPPHIRE HD 4670 1GB DDR3 PCI-E (@ 4400rs)

HD 4670 is a very good card for its budget...but getting that at 4.5k doesnt make any sense now...
Better to wait till you get enough moolah for HD 5670...
But if increasing the budget is a strict NO...
then get yourself a HD 4670..sapphire and powercolor both are good...get any one..

HD 5770 is my final choice for my card :D

Incase I do need a cooling system for the card what should I use and hw much would it cost?

You probably wont need a cooling solution...
the max you can do is..apply a thermal paste on the die..
But, i dont think you will need to do anything..
HD 5770 doesnt get hot...no even with the reference coolers..:)

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

How much does the thermal paste come for?

And what cabinet would you recommend for under 2k?

Go for the Sapphire card.

i) Sapphire is ATI premium partner.

ii) IIRC Sapphire cards carry 3yrs warranty whereas PowerColor carries only a 2yr warranty. So unless the PowerColor card is at least 8-10% cheaper it makes no sense to get that brand.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

I would have suggested sapphire too...

but i dont usually suggest it for HD 4670...

because i own one, the 512 mb model...and it is known to have some problems...its driver crashes some times...I checked it on google...

and people using this card had problems similar to this...

the solution to this was easy ...underclock the card to some extent..but i guess...whats the point of getting a card known to have some issues..

NOTE:this issue was seen only on the 512 mb versions...not the 1 gig one...

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

New Gpu required for a friend

System specs

Cpu amd athlon 2 240

Mobo m2n68 amplus

Ram 2gb ddr2 corsair

PSU FSP saga 2 350 watts

Budget - Strict 4.5k

Resolution - 1280*1080 or even 1024*768

I suggested a 9600gt for him as he likes games like grid,dirt2,mw,bc2 but i wasn't sure if it is safe to run 9600gt on that psu.

Is there a better alternative.

TIA

Its fine to run a 9600GT on that PSU. Alternatively you can also get a HD4670 1GB DDR3 ~ 4.4k.

IIRC the 9600GT needs a PCI-E connector whereas the HD4670 doesn't need one.

But i would advice u ask ur friend to increase the budget slighltly and go for the HD5670 512MB GDDR5 ~ 5.2k. Its better than both the above mentioned cards.

MSI 5570 1GB DDR3 for Rs.4750/- from SMC. Bit higher than budget but has low power requirement.

As u have a great PSU and if you dont mind high power consumption get the ATI HD 4890 1GB GDDR5 ~ 12K.

Deltapage lists a PowerColor model for 11.9k.

If you can increase the budget slightly and are ok with 2nd hand hardware then there is a 3 weeks old HD5850 in the market section for 14k.

http://www.techenclave.com/members-market/sapphire-ati-5850-1gb-s-14k-166579.html

The HD5770 suffers in DX11 mode and its better to get a HD5850/ HD4890. You have a in between budget bang in the middle of the HD5770 and HD5850. :p

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

well i've got a similar rig but & unfortunately my 8800GT KO has suddenly started giving me trouble. The system & card powers up with the card fan spinning at max but theres no display and i cant make out if the systems hung or not.. everytime i take out the card and put it back it works for a few days and then back again the same prob..

so i think i'll get myself a new card now:

Specs

Core 2 Duo E8400 @ stock

4x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers

Corsair HX620w PSU

Asus P5K Deluxe wifi

Display - Dell SP2208WFP 1680x1050 (to be changed to a 24' full HD LCD monitor or an LCD Tv)

whats a good card to get?? if ATI then which brand too? preferably with an Indian warranty.

Get a HD 4670...
will run perfectly on that resolution...
If you can increase your budget a little more...get a HD 5570...
thats good too...should cost you around 4.7k..

IF strict 4.5k...the HD 4670 eyes closed...:)

Id suggest, you get yourself a second hand HD 5850 or increase your budget to get a new one..as suggested by DarkAngel..

If Crysis 2 is the aim...get the better card....you will have to shell out more.....but i guess when you max it out(maybe)...it will be totally worth it..:eek:hyeah:

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

^^ budget is open. no limit set

actually reading up more on my problem seems to point that the Asus P5K's have a particular issue with POST sometimes. Unexplained and there doesnt seem to be a known fixed solution to it.

So in addition to a card.. i cud possibly have to think about getting a new board as well..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

BTW what are the fixes for the Grey Screen of Death problems in the Radeon cards?

Im getting my card tomorrow and i hope i don't face the same problem!

if am getting ati 5670@5.2k should i go for it??

A big yes :D The HD5670 performs much better than the HD4670 and price difference is not much.

In the price to perfomance ratio the HD5670 beats the HD4670. So if u can strech ur budget then definitely go for the HD5670 512MB GDDR5 ~ 5.2k

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Thanks all of you guys, got a Saaphire HD 5670 1GB yesterday.
Has left me a miserable bank balance though, hope its worth the stunt :p now my dad will have to bail me out to pull through this month until the next sal.

Thanks again for all the suggestions :)

If you dont have a limit...
I'd suggest you go in for HD 5870...as..
1)good PSU...

2)you will be shifting to a full HD monitor soon...

Its an extremely good card...will play all the latest games...
Price...ummm....about 24k..:ashamed:

If you want something above this...
HD 5970..~ 40k :eek:hyeah:
