Does 'in association with' Tata Docomo mean it would be locked to Docomo?

No. its like the hd 2 docomo. Its unlocked, with few extra goodies for docomo users.

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S using Tapatalk Pro.

Umm, hopefully I should be able to get my Desire tomorrow. And yes, the street price is much lesser, the lowest quote I have got so far is 26,750 inclusive of all taxes. It's an unlocked piece. Got the news on saturday and was supposed to get it today, but the distributor in bangalore hasn't got it, so I have to wait till tomorrow.

Finally! HTC should speed up the launch of its other Android phones too in India. The Desire launched seems to be better specd than it's British cousin.

Too late! Had this come a couple of weeks earlier, I'd have gone in for it over the Galaxy S. It might still sell, but HTC has lost some customers already by delaying it for over 2 months.

Better spec'd ? What changes are there in the Indian version?

^ really? Could you post some links?

btw it's still not available in the market (in Delhi at least), and according to one dealer (warning: rumour) HTC is changing it's national distributor, so even if the shipment has reached India, it may take time for the actual retail pieces to reach the dealers. Hoping that it will be available within a week.

Specs confirms they have 3.7" SLCD ones. So are these the first batch of Desire's with SLCD? Guess this explains the delayed Desire launch(july-end to mid-august).
Well, the same page says that "AMOLED capacitive touchscreen" in the specs section.

So which screen is it actually??

The message received by the dealer from HTC said AMOLED display. So, only when we get our hands on the set can we know.

I think it's seriously weird that there is no news on either the HTC India site, or the Tata Docomo site, and yet sites like androisos.in, techtree.com, fonearena.com are reporting that the Desire has been launched, and moreover quoted this fabled press release (for which none of them give any links). I am still awaiting a response from HTC Asia.

Once again asked the customer care about the Launch date. They got back today saying they'll launch in second week of August!!! (Gosh they dont even realize that second week of august is gone...... or maybe they meant second week of august 2011 and we mis-understood)

They also said they dont have any idea about the screen, and maintained that they have a sales & marketing issue and are in the process of sorting it out... Gosh.. Launching a phone is so difficult for them?

Update: This is what I got back from HTC Asia:

Things that you have mentioned regarding the National Distributor and TATA DOCOMO are correct. However, we are not sure how long does it take for Desire to be available on the market and who is going to sell it since service team is not involved in that part of decision. It shouldn’t be too far away but we are also waiting for the update regarding its release and being available on the market. Sorry that we couldn’t answer your question at this stage.

Maybe it's time to start figuring out who I can find to get me a Dell Streak from the U.S..... :(

^ don't trust grey market dealers, especially ones on ebay. Would rather trust a friend / relative to carry it themselves. Plus that one is a locked model with some weird jugaad. I would want an unlocked piece.

Back to the Desire - Got this reply from Flipkart:

Yes, the item titled "HTC Desire (Black)" is available with us at the cost of Rs. 27,299/-. From the date of order the item will be shipped to your address within 7-9 business days. Please use the below mentioned link to know more an to place an order.

HTC Desire: Price, Features & Reviews (Black): Htc Desire Review | Flipkart

Yes, this item is not an imported piece it is the one which was launched by HTC. Moreover, all the mobiles have 1 year manufacture warranty which can be serviced by any HTC authorised centre.

How did they manage to get stock and no one else? Bangalore people said that they have a physical brick and mortar store too, right? Anyone willing to check it out?

I hope this means that it will be available in the regular market in the same time span of 7 - 9 days.

If I remember correctly, Black was Orange EU exclusive model.

Confirm twice before buying. You really do not want to buy branded HTC desire.

Someone should go and check out their store to confirm that its not UK import / Orange branded model.

Well, either they are wrong on the colour, or maybe it means that HTC India is releasing Black coloured Desires in India? Plus, if it is a legit place as many are saying, one would expect that they would not outrightly lie in a e-mail. Tomorrow if I buy the phone from them, and it turns out to be a grey piece, it could mean major problems for them.

And furthermore I received a further response from Flipkart:

We have the mobile phone in stock and we can ship the same in 2 business days. You should receive the consignment early next week.
