If he needs warranty and support then yes BSNL modem is good but the BSNL modems are network locked so if he wants to change to airtel it might be a problem. Better will be to get a cheap 3.2mbps modem for 1.7k and see how it goes.DarkAngel said:I see lots of users posting troubles with both E122 and UMG1831 modem. My friend needs a 3G modem for BSNL 3G. Should i ask him to go ahead with the BSNL 7.2Mbps one since it will have warranty and support from BSNL?
U may be right about warranty ... but god forbid if u have to claim warranty u will have to wait for 6months(or more) for a new piece to be provided to you by BSNL.DarkAngel said:I see lots of users posting troubles with both E122 and UMG1831 modem. I think E122 is corrupting the SIM .Also does you E122 get hot after some times ?, mine gets hot in 30 minutes of usage.I think I need to ask dvdstore guy for replacement.

cat /etc/wvdial.conf
this did not yield any results for me!phoenix844884 said:@abracadabra
Try the method given here - [ubuntu] please read if you need to configure a 3g modem on 10.04 - Ubuntu Forums
I will be going through the same thing as I plan on buying the modem, fitting it with an MTNL SIM and then connecting it on Ubuntu 10.04. I hope it works. Let me know whether it worked for you.
