I'm quite surprised I haven't seen one of these threads already. Looking at the biggest flagship phones for this year (till now, and perhaps for the rest of the year from both HTC and Samsung), I'm looking to buy one of them. I simply don't know which one to pick.

- I love the HTC One design, though Galaxy S4's compact shell is great as well.
- I like Sense quite a lot, TouchWiz is okay. But it's the added Software tweaks by Samsung that make the experience quite amazing, if I am to believe the adds.
- The Galaxy S4 simply has a much better camera than the HTC One.
- The Super AMOLED display has it's advantages (Daydream, pure black) but the SLCD display is gorgeous as well.

As you can see, I'm pretty messed up here :D. Don't know what to do. Don't want to end up buying an UMI X2 (or a rumored Micromax Canvas A120) or something. Why would I do that?
- Priced around 15k
- 1080p display
- Quad core
- 2 GB RAM
- 13 MP cam
- Android 4.2.1 JB

Looks like Samsung is advertising 16GB S4 but providing only 8GB for user's use. I understand that their bloat takes 8GB space but this is bit misleading to say it is 16GB model and then when the user discovers he can use mere 8GB. I would expect at least 12-13GB to be usable.

May be these companies should make say a 20GB device, use the 4-5GB for their own crapware and then provide the user real 16GB memory.
And yes i know the S4 has a microSD.

I am not sure but I think the case you mentioned is specific to carrier locked phones as they tend add extra bloatware. May someone who has bought it already can confirm.

From what i read, it is not specific to carrier but all S4 have this, btw the bloatware i am referring here are the gimmicky features that samsung has put in S4. Not the carrier bloatware.

Well, I am wandering throughout system files of SGS4 for 2 days now. I took system dump which is of around 1.4GB (which becomes less than 700mb after removing and compressing APK files). I am looking exactly where they have utilized all the space. I believe space can be increased just little above 11-12gb after reverse engineering.

My experience with the phone so far (using it as advanced user) -
1. Stock launcher uses around 100mb of memory but it is pretty smooth.
2. Multitasking is bliss (no lags or whatsoever experienced so far)
3. Camera performs great in daylight. Night mode is not OKAY.
4. Gaming performance is outstanding, experienced very very tiny lag in Need for speed hot pursuit while turning once.. Not again that.
5. I have no complains about screen. It is beautiful. You will never notice anything like pink ting, smearing on this screen with naked eye. NEVER. Believe me.

HTC ONE if you're in to looks, SGS IV if you want the best features. I'd personally go for the HTC ONE

And what if "any" issue comes up whatsoever? Service center = no-go

1. 100 MB is a LOT. But what the hell, there's 2 GB of RAM available. As long as it's smooth.

Q. Is the back of the phone slippery/jelly like/cheap feeling/sturdy?

I believe de-bloating the ROM and re-partitioning it can give another 2-3 GB to user files. But then bye-bye to OTA updates.

Nope, not at all. I don't feel it jelly like, cheapo. I am happy with it. :-) White looks gorgeous, it doesn't look CHEAP at all. Yes, de-bloating and re-partitioning will loose OTA updates. But do we really want updates released in India? They come 1 month after EU release. I am happy with flashing EU Roms. I never used any SPECIFIC Indian ROM features (Except, Devanagari font support, which I believe has to be there in almost every ROM now.)

And, if you insert 32gig MicroSD card (Class10 card hardly comes for 1.7k), you are good to go with Stock firmware as well :-)

Yup I'll most definitely be doing that. Got a huge music collection. Also can you tell me if the device needs a SCREEN GUARD/COVER from day one? I definitely want to protect the device but not put it in a *** SHELL! Here are my requirements:

- Gel based, something that wraps around the device only partially so that when I keep it on a surface it doesn't touch the back of the device. Preventing dirt to hit the white back or edges of the device as well for that matter.
- A Dock. I would love to plug my device on to a dock. And probably be able to bend it so that I can watch movies while sitting on my study table. Also, would plug in the charger and also connect external speakers while connected to the dock.
- Wireless charging mat?

Basically if I buy the phone I want to go with all accessories. I want a complete and "awesome" experience!

My sources say we are more than 1.5 years away from Cortex A57/64-bit based phones.
My sources say the same too. I was talking of late 2014( nearing the end). But that is because I have my iPad 4 to take care of heavy gaming for me in the mean time :)
Also, don't know why this doesn't get much coverage, but plastic/poly carbonate WHITE phones from Samsung are prone to small hairline cracks on their own over time. This invariably happens with any white plastic phone from Samsung. I know because I have a white Note (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044405) and Im sure this was the case with white S3 too but cant find proper links, sorry.
This doesn't effect the usability or integrity of the phone, but it bugs me that it happens.

I guess it just doesnt show in the dark colored models (does that sound racist?)

Saw the S4 at Reliance Digital yesterday and Croma (Airport) today. I'm
In love with it. I don't care about the looks even though the back is quite ugly in the dark model. Gonna use it with a case + screen guard. I held the screen an inch away from my eye to try and see the pixels and must say they are barely noticeable.

Also realised that I will probably never be able to use a phone without some hardware buttons.

OP hope you finally stick with this choice and the phone makes you happy.

Even I was thinking about getting HTC one, but there are a lot of reports about the build quality issues. I might wait for HTC One Plus or Nexus 5.

One plus ?? What's that ? Never heard or read about it. Btw even if there is, it would be marginal increase in specs and things have come to overkill limits as of now. Infact if the manufactures would restrict themselves to 720p, the PPI would still be adequate and taxing on battery won't be there thus giving better battery life. But then this is numbers game so they have show something to market the phones.
