I'm quite surprised I haven't seen one of these threads already. Looking at the biggest flagship phones for this year (till now, and perhaps for the rest of the year from both HTC and Samsung), I'm looking to buy one of them. I simply don't know which one to pick.

- I love the HTC One design, though Galaxy S4's compact shell is great as well.
- I like Sense quite a lot, TouchWiz is okay. But it's the added Software tweaks by Samsung that make the experience quite amazing, if I am to believe the adds.
- The Galaxy S4 simply has a much better camera than the HTC One.
- The Super AMOLED display has it's advantages (Daydream, pure black) but the SLCD display is gorgeous as well.

As you can see, I'm pretty messed up here :D. Don't know what to do. Don't want to end up buying an UMI X2 (or a rumored Micromax Canvas A120) or something. Why would I do that?
- Priced around 15k
- 1080p display
- Quad core
- 2 GB RAM
- 13 MP cam
- Android 4.2.1 JB

Exactly none of the flagship is bad, it's just a personal preference and nothing else. Some like Samsung phones with their bloated UI and other like an elegance of the sense UI. Currently using One X and can't be more happy with it. Once you go with any unibody design phone either HTC one or be it xperia Z you cannot go back to cheap looking plastic toys like S4.

Again this is my way of looking at things and others might look it in a totally different way.

True that. The Z is one huge slab, but a beautiful one at that. HTC One is the sexiest phone alive, and Snapdragon APQ8064 or Snapdragon 600 hardly makes a difference to anyone.

And I LOVE THE SONY UI it's BEAUTIFUL.

BTW S4 in STOCK for 36k here again:

Out of stock!

Hmmm , i dont buy phones coz they are beautiful.....;)

When one is spending 25k+, in my opinion the phone definitely has to look good. Of course, your opinion differs from mine.

Alleged Note 3. Not too far! :)

Guys, wanna get this straight. If I buy a phone that's this costly, IT HAS TO BE BEAUTIFUL. A stunner every time I look at it.

So the 36k deal was for real huh? Lets see if it pops up again!
Dude your calculation make no sense. And please! Stop calling Xperia z as beautiful when it's seriously not. It's ui sucks big time! It was rather better on older Xperia phones.

It's a smart phone and all the phones look same! Just a tad design differences here and there. If you prefer looks above anything else in a phone then the whole discussion thread has gone in vein. If you want looks and slimness and smooth and fast ui then go for iPhone. You'll get looks, quality and awesome A.S.S

Btw:

I still don't quite get why HTC sucks. Apart from the repairability issue I don't see how HTC is that bad. Agreed it doesn't have the software features as in a S4 but I am not sure those features are something that anyone is going to use many times (if at all). Unless you are buying to show off people what cool things your phone can do. Let's see what each feature has to offer -
1. Air view - Only works with samsung apps. And based on the reviews it is difficult to get it right with your fingers everytime. It might be a useful feature but if it gets frustrating to use, sooner or later it would be forgotten.
2. Air gesture - Might be useful if your hands are dirty/wet (XZ wins with its water resistant properties here :D). IMHO this is more of a cool feature than a useful one.
3. Smart pause - I don't watch a lot of movies on my phone, so I might be biased but do we really need to pause everytime you look away from the screen? And in case you do chances are that you will still miss a few frames and you might end up skipping back a few extra frames.
4. Smart scroll - Again hit and miss based on reviews. So you are better off keeping this switched off.
5. S Health - Only if you are a fitness freak. Also the pedometer is not very accurate as per reports.
6. Camera features - Yes, the only thing that might be useful. But for people who do not use phone camera too much might not need all these.
7. Universal remote - HTC has one as well.
8. S translator - Nothing that your regular google translator can't do.
To me all these features will entice you while making the decision to buy a phone but I am not sure how much they will be used in real life. Again I might be wrong and people who think these are necessary can go and buy the S4, but that, in no way makes HTC One suck. On the contrary I find a couple of things in the HTC one that might be of great use -
1. Loudspeakers are loud. I don't play a lot of music on the loud speaker but it might be useful when you want to take a call on the speaker but are unable to do so for the lack of loudness.
2. Noise cancelling mic - based on the AT review it works like a charm. This will save you from repeating every line twice when you are taking a call in heavy traffic/noisy environments.
Again I am not a SGS4 hater, I just don't like it when people bash another phone unnecessarily just because of their personal preference. It is better to put in a pros and cons of each phone for the buyer to make an informed decision rather than saying blatantly XYZ sucks.
For me each phone has its merits and you can possibly not go wrong buying either one of them.
OP - although you have mentioned that you are strictly considering phones below 5 inch, what about this

^^ How is that iPhone pic is relevant here.
I was pointing out the cost at which iPhone is made and the price at which its sold. Lol
This was more towards phone built quality and aesthetics.. If iPhone can have a metallic phone so cheaply manufactured, why not others. But only screw up is its a uni body.

I LOVE THE SONY UI. I think the Xperia Z design is BOLD and BEAUTIFUL.

Very well written bro. As for the Lenovo phone, it's an INTEL chipset. No support from community whatsoever.

Oh! I thought you were not looking for flashing custom ROMs. In which case it's better to stick to XZ. My wifey owns one and really I don't find too many issues with it. To me it looks beautiful and premium even if it's a glass slab. The loudspeaker is disappointing and so is the ear speaker placement. You might need to adjust your phone a little to get the right position. The UI is pretty decent (my first tryst with a Sony UI) coming from sense and touchwiz. I really did not have much trouble and felt at home from the moment I switched it on. Though I will still rate the Sense UI above in terms of out of the box usability.

I meant I won't buy a new phone and the next day flash CUSTOM ROMs. Eventually!

I'm still waiting to hear more on HTC's service center situation. Also someone said wait for the 2nd batch of HTC phones which will fix many issues with some first batch phones (which makes sense!).

@comp@addict

Why are you concerned about community support as you mentioned that you need a phone with likeable OS so you do not need to flash ROMs.

Yes, but after a year when updates stop coming then? That's when I want to flash ROMs

Not on DAY 1 or WEEK 1 because the OS has too much BLOATWARE or stuff.

Never hav e been service centres, never will be... Nearest service centre for HTC, if u are in manipal is bangalore or chennai..

Never had any hardware issues so can't really comment. I don't remember what was it exactly but I did mail customer care of HTC regarding some issue with my DHD 2 years back. They responded within a day and followed it up further (although I had fixed it myself). Must admit the technical skill was not great (as is expected) but I was pleased with the fact that they responded and called till I closed the issue (call came from Mumbai).

^Agreed, HTC india social media is very active and i had good experience with them. I had only one instance of DOA and service center promptly given DOA certificate, but the dealer was adamant in saying there is no problem in the device. Then i contacted HTC via FB, got the device replaced very next day :)
