I'm quite surprised I haven't seen one of these threads already. Looking at the biggest flagship phones for this year (till now, and perhaps for the rest of the year from both HTC and Samsung), I'm looking to buy one of them. I simply don't know which one to pick.

- I love the HTC One design, though Galaxy S4's compact shell is great as well.
- I like Sense quite a lot, TouchWiz is okay. But it's the added Software tweaks by Samsung that make the experience quite amazing, if I am to believe the adds.
- The Galaxy S4 simply has a much better camera than the HTC One.
- The Super AMOLED display has it's advantages (Daydream, pure black) but the SLCD display is gorgeous as well.

As you can see, I'm pretty messed up here :D. Don't know what to do. Don't want to end up buying an UMI X2 (or a rumored Micromax Canvas A120) or something. Why would I do that?
- Priced around 15k
- 1080p display
- Quad core
- 2 GB RAM
- 13 MP cam
- Android 4.2.1 JB

^Agreed, HTC india social media is very active and i had good experience with them. I had only one instance of DOA and service center promptly given DOA certificate, but the dealer was adamant in saying there is no problem in the device. Then i contacted HTC via FB, got the device replaced very next day :)
DOA scenario is different. It's not the same as the scenario where you deal with service Centre a couple of months down the line after buying your device.

Anyway.. Cheers all.

Just saw the s4 it is really a stunner...xperia z just looks ugly in front of it IMHO
the camera of s4 is too good...100 times better than z
s4 is really worth it..@ 30k may be ;) xperia z :D may be 20 k

Update
Forgot to say this..

First of all, Im sending this from my phone , so sorry for the formatting and punctuation.
Dude I think you need to look at this link. http://blogs.computerworld.com/smartphones/22123/samsung-galaxy-s4-vs-htc-one-nexus-4

It is in no way an indepth review, but it covers something that is being ignored here - Knowing the priorities. No one can suggest one phone for everyone. Even the worlds best phone may not be for everyone. Personally, for me removable battery and expandable storage are extremely essential. So the S4 would have been the only choice for me normally. But the storage issue is nullified by HTCs 64 gb storage, so that's good. But still the battery is a big issue as I have had my batteries on many flagships fail just after an year. This I have seen with an iphone 4s, galaxy note, one x( only the note is mine). The battery life just keeps on degrading starting just after an year. Next comes the after sales service. I don't know others opinion on this but I know for sure that things can fail midway through the smartphones life and not just during the start like some seem to imply here. So please take that into consideration. You seem to like HTCs beast and everything is great with it except of course the A.S.S and battery. If they are risks you are willing to take then nothing wrong with the choice.

I always preferred HTC for its build quality. Still own/have HTC HD2 with Android 4.2 and Win 7.8 (Performing flawlessly after 4 years!!!)
Also i know non-removable battery has been a concern for all HTC one users, but that has been addressed by mophie

Wish you all the best for your purchase. S4 is a beast though, but kinda having a boring design and never liked the touchwiz..
Having said that, you won't regret purchasing any of the phones be it a HTC One or S4.

LOL no Nexus 4 will break. I think you of all people know that prateek ...
Vaibhav Rana (u might know him) broke his HTC One x screen too and he can't get it fixed as htc has no service centres , so all this gorilla glass is bullshit, one fall and its over, mine fell about 10 feet and partial water damage, so remember whichever phone you buy, it's gonna break without a case...

Nexus 4 is serviceable in india though, lg service centre in hyderabad accepted it, and ordered a new motherboard for my phone..

After much debating and thinking:

Xperia Z
Due to the sub-par viewing angles and contrast ratio of the otherwise stunning handset. And that the dimensions are larger than the others.

Xperia ZL
Reviews mention a "boring" design and not that great a feel to hold the phone, although usability is top notch for a 5 incher. Same con, display with it's horrible viewing angle and contrast ratio.

UMI X2

Chinese 1080p quad core phone, need I say more.

Nexus 4
Fragile body, glass might shatter. Uninspiring camera performance. No warranty.

HTC One
Lack of service centers could cause a huge issue if something goes wrong with the phone. In that case, I might have to run around for 2 months to get my phone back. Also, questionable build quality and signal reception issues in some handsets and reports of cracking of camera glass at the back in some (XDA, Youtube).

Galaxy S4 (Frost White)
The only phone which has it's fair share of cons but overwhelming number of pros.
+Great Camera
+Excellent service in India
+Huge battery
+Latest Android version
+Bloated but feature-packed TouchWIZ
+1080p SuperAMOLED display

-Uninspiring design
-Build quality below competition level
-TouchWIZ has too many cartoony (and GREEN) elements

At the end of the day, I feel that the Galaxy S4 would be the best choice to go for. Now I wish I could pick up the Snapdragon 600 version of the S4 (I have my reasons to believe it's the more superior one) but it seems India will only be getting the Exynos 5 Octa version (which again isn't a bad thing at all).
If I buy the phone, I will so with a complete array of accessories that include:
-Dock(Plug and Music)
-Wireless charging mat (available?)
-Rubber-Jelly like covers that don't really cover the phone but just parts of it. So that when I place it on a surface, the back doesn't really touch down. Not talking about full blown cases here, or the ViewCover or whatever it's called.

*If I (for reasons unknown) don't buy the phone, I'll simply purchase the Sony HONAMI (in the news) the second it releases (with all rumors pointing to October 2013) in India.

@comp@ddict You seem to have made a good decision. Though Im constantly looking out for a new phone to buy, personally I feel this year's launches do not offer much above last years offerings. I mean, sure they are faster but not ground breaking. So, Im just waiting for Cortex A57 based phones and tablets in 2014(now that's some serious bump in power), till then my Note should suffice :)

My sources say we are more than 1.5 years away from Cortex A57/64-bit based phones.

Okay. Good that you finally came to a conclusion. Not to confuse you any further but I had a look at the S4 yesterday at reliance digital. I thought it only came in Black and white colors. Am not sure how they got a shiny silver back (it was not a case) which was absolutely hideous. That doesn't look like the black mist to me. The screen is gorgeous. The one thing I disliked was after unlocking the screen I started swiping the home screens and it lagged. Yes, I checked again opened the app drawer and it lagged. After a minute though it disappeared. Strange. Can this be due to the octa core and how it toggles between the two processors? I opened temple run 2 and again it lagged at the startup and then everything was super smooth.
Out of the gimmicky features I tried the smart pause and it worked 50% times and it was actually more of a annoyance. I would rather have it switched off at all times. :D
