ICO and Shadow of the Collosus - Discussion Thread

^And if I say that it IS ambiguous but haven't revealed what exactly it is, how is it even remotely pointing to a spoiler let alone one?

The game ends just like how a similar title - Limbo did. It is left to the player to assume what happened towards the conclusion and how Ico and Yorda ended up there.

These two lines made you think it is a spoiler? I've no words left for you perhaps! I wouldn't edit my impressions nonetheless. Those aren't spoilers for the last time. Those are just my impressions.

Or if you thought 'And they lived happily ever after', well then so be it. :p

Well they are a spoiler cuz:

You DONT divulge the ending in talks of any kinds. Let the ending be brought upon as it should be. W/o any hint of it.

You can easily mention your impressions of gameplay, gfx, sfx etc w/o using hints about something like that.

We have the spoiler tags so why not encompass the opinions in them as well..? The option is there to be used.

Began SOTC yesterday and defeated 3 colossi. The controls were completely messed up and so were the camera angles. It seems difficult to climb up when Wander hangs onto a platform or a ledge. He just seem to move sidewards all the time. I had a hard time with the colossi thus.

All the game has to offer is a large map where the 16 colossi are located, travel to that area and defeat them? Allwyn was telling me sometime back that defeating the colossi were similar to those boss battles in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. We need to figure out the weaknesses, scale them and then stab that area. Visuals weren't all that great but manageable. Seems like a TP game. I hope this colossi affair doesn't become repetitive!

Controls for both these games seem to be messed up big time. Albeit customisable, they are still a pain in the back. I'm playing ICO right now and it seems to be OK-ish so far. SoTC was much more fun. Each colossi are unique in their design and their weak spots are well placed. The faster moving colossi's would be very tricky to handle. So watch out for them. :)

Thanks man! Will definitely take care of them. :)

Third colossus:

Call it fluke, I managed to get rid of the piece of armor from this giant's right hand which holds that stone sword almost instantly. He slammed the right hand on a piece of platform and it broke! I was like OMG! :eek:hyeah:

Fruits seem to increase Wander's health but what do we do after we get hold of the lizard's tail? :ashamed:

10 defeated, 6 more to go, 3 per day. :D

Some of them were really awesome. I mean unlike those usual boss battles wherein you have this huge health bar on top and just need to evade or dodge their attacks, this one requires you to put that thinking cap before attempting to attack them. And to top it all none of them felt boring or monotonous. What is boring however is the traveling part. Got lost once and had to reload from the checkpoint.

The controls and camera angles - completely MESSED! :|

So do u guys suggest playing these games on the ps2 rather..?

Wait, so you haven't played either of these?

Uhh...A little help here. I'm in the 'Waterfall area' of Ico. There is a part where I have activate a pump like wooden structure and I have no idea how to proceed to the top. I read the walkthrough and it seems that this is a modification done in the PAL version of the game. The NTSC version just allowed us to shimmy across the railings provided to read the next area. Any idea on how to clear this part?

Fixed :p Refer below:

You notice that turbine there yeah? On the either sides of it, you will notice platforms for Ico to climb atop it. And as the turbine spins, you need to jump onto the turbine, balance for a second, jump and catch hold of the ledge. And get to the top of the platform. Once you are on top, rotate the lever to close the entry and stop the water.

Deactivate? The wooden structure is inactive when you reach the place. Once you pull the lever, you activate it and it starts moving up and down. Any-hoo, I completed that part, after a few failed attempts. Seems like the US version was more easier in this part. :p

Deactivate?

Yes.

That wooden platform that goes up and down helps Ico reach to the top and then descends the ladder down. Once you are down, you need to stop the turbine for the water to stop flowing, which is what I meant by deactivating. And to stop it, you need to rotate the lever on the platform.

If you haven't stopped the turbine, you will see yourself going back there again to do so.

I am glad I did not have to refer a walkthrough for the game. The moment I do so, I seem to lose all the mojo to play it thereafter. :(

Oh, you're talking about the latter part of deactivating. I was talking about the one prior to it, when you're still in the room, not in the courtyard. Thankfully, both those are cleared now. :)

Oh and simply pushing the box down will not help. That waterfall needs to be deactivated.

EDIT: Seems like you have cleared that part. :)

Jep! But I'm just not feeling this game anymore. It's turning out to be a one long escort task, a boring one that is.

Would you believe there is an achievement for completing it in under 2 hours? :p

Completed the game and I liked the ending. Stayed back after the credits (as usual) and found another surprise. I didn't particularly enjoy this game, but it was average. What I did love, however, was it's beautiful soundtrack and Yorda's character design. Her innocence was conveyed without much being spoken. I was just wondering:

What would have happened had my console shutdown during the final boss battle with the Queen? As far as I recall, after we enter the final area when Yorda and Ico get separated, there is no specific save point and if you shut the game down, it won't load a checkpoint, correct? So we would have to go through the whole platforming drama over again?

But what do you think of the ending?

Unsure as to how Yorda ended up washed ashore in the human form! Maybe it is upto us to decide how it ends? I read up on a good conclusion. The two of them Ico and Yorda are actually dead towards the end of the game. Ico dies when he gets knocked out by the queen's final blow, both his horns break and bleed. Yorda's soul remains trapped within the castle and as her mother mentioned before she cannot possibly leave the castle. So the epilogue felt more like a dream to me.

Did you take the watermelon to Yorda? :p
