Here's an amazing statistic for Apple's total dominance - iPhone revenues for Q4 2011 (Q1 FY2012) was $24 billion. Microsoft in its entirety with hundreds of products could only muster $21 billion.
Apple introduced minor ASIC changes with minimal R&D costs into a near-identical 15 month old shell and that was enough to sell 37 million iPhones at premium prices. On the other hand poor Samsung released 30 different kinds of smartphones with massive consumer research and R&D costs to suit the various needs of consumers in several different price segments and could only manage 35 million sales.
Apple is now more valuable than Greece and has way more cash than US. Has there ever been a company or any organization this dominant? I think universities and business students will study Apple for centuries to come. It is the perfect business.
