So sad Geo Hotz wasn't aware of this.
Of course he was, he just thought he'd get away with it like he did with Apple.

But i think nothing will happen to him and he will crack the NGP day one :P

guys who say games are costly hence they pirate it need to know that games are not 'necessity'. Food, clothing and shelter are necessities. If you can't buy a game don't buy it. Would you steal a TV, car etc just because you can't afford it. Stop using this stupid argument. If you pirate a game, enjoy it and keep your trap shut. Don't go advocating piracy and acting like you are doing it out of despair. Piracy is nothing but stealing.

^^ No one is condoning piracy here if you cant get english ! All was said that to reduce piracy Sony can go a bit la Steam way !
Also all is worried about the clause that even after paying 25k for the PS3 you dont own in fully !

Also I hope you dont have even a MB of those DVDRips/HD Rips :P

^^ ROFL....

Piracy is an endless debate. Even a friend of mine who is very rich, is buying original games and at the same time, if the game is not available at store, he simply get it from grey market. Does that mean he supports piracy? Not, The same way, you cannot compare it with basic amenities.

Yep, I read it too on torrent freak. They have asked google to reveal the name of people posting tutorials, videos on youtube. To take it to the next level, they have asked info on all the people who have posted comments on the tut videos and even sent notice to twitter to reveal names of the people who have tweeted/re-tweeted the info on the homebrew.

They think they can take on the whole world.

the more they do this, the more people are gonna post.

and why doesn't sony sue itself? didnt their own employee tweet the PS3 master key?

1st post updated with the email.

You're lucky Sony at least gave you a fair chance to get your ass off PSN before it's too late. With Microsoft, it would lead to a direct ban, NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Better cool off the whole PSN and Multi-player till you're off the CFW.

its quite a heated debate here.. I want to make one point.. the whole world knows about hacking PSP , but Sony nevr tried these antics about PSP..

^^^ the reason behind that is
1> SONY claimed that PS3 was unhackable. It seems that they have taken this on their ego.
2> SONY makes much more profit from selling PS3 games rather than selling PSP games.

For all who think PS3's "Other OS" does not have a legitimate use, read on:

PS3 cluster

The considerable computing capability of the PlayStation 3's Cell microprocessors has raised interest in using multiple, networked PS3s for various tasks that require affordable high-performance computing

Even a single PS3 can be used to significantly accelerate some computations. Marc Stevens, Arjen K. Lenstra, and Benne de Weger say: "Essentially, a single PlayStation 3 performs like a cluster of 30 PCs at the price of only one"

It is also used in Medical research

Source:PlayStation 3 cluster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Another legitimate use: Air force also uses PS3 cluster

yeah..ur right i guess.. its tht big EGO for sony..

but to my point, sony did make newer psp's with improved firmwares which were claimed to be unchackable, but all the firmware versions are now hackable.. sony dint bother to go n catch evryone who publishd psp hacks..

and that EGO is getting between hiring these gems by the various companies..

I like the quote from Geohot on his blog.

But talented developers are in much shorter supply, and take it from one personally, who you choose to code for is much more of a moral choice.

The programmers you will one day be looking to hire are the ones reading the tech news sites right now.

Did you -EVER- use the OtherOS feature on your PS3? If you did, you'd have noticed that it was a pretty bad experience. The only problem I have with this statement is the pirates ducking behind the "but they removed OtherOS when it was an advertised feature". Face the fact, nobody used other OS (I'm saying nobody because 1 or 2% of your install base equates to nobody). They only used it as an excuse to "Jailbreak" the PS3, and EVERYONE knows that the only thing that happens once a console is hacked is piracy.

Oh and Sony still sells the PS3 at a loss. They make money on software licenses. It's perfectly fair to ban non-paying customers from their PSN service. Imagine playing SSF4 or MVC3 online against someone who hacked his console and has unlimited health.

I did use that feature for cluster computing long back.

I agree Fedora was messy but it got the work done.

So, please do not give mindless reasons.

I do not support pirated games, all my games a purchased legally through steam. But if Sony thinks you cannot tinker your PS3 is one head inside a$$ syndrome.

What if I want to run a custom firmware but want to buy legal games only, will Sony support me ? Off course not.

What else do you expect from company sued for shipping rootkits with its products... haha.

Bloody control freak corporate honchos.

^^ lol

you really think sony sells at a loss?

just by reading some reports?

you seriously don't know economics do you.

1) A person has the right to run what ever software he wants as long as its not intellectual property illegally acquired. HE OWN THE HARDWARE. Sony is like an automobile company dictating which companies Petrol I should fill in my vehicle. Its nonsense.

2) Sony should be sued for deliberately trying to break compatibility with softwares, using their firmwares.

3) Sony should stop over pricing their games. We understand that games take money for developing but what sony asks for is a very very high premium. Perhaps an audit of expenses should be done and the govt should see to it that the prices are regulated. :@ Because piracy is a direct result of the overtly high premium these companies demand for the games.

4) Lastly, They should stop trolling and join hands with users instead of going after their asses. Cause if they dont, someone else will. Wii is already kicking sony's ass left, right and centre.
