Pay attention Gannu. CA50 was answering Faheem's query on what he should post on DTDC's Facebook page.

On their FB page, someone posted it : (D)ouschebags and (T)hieves who (D)arn to (C)heat!
That was posted by me. I really got frustrated after reading about such incidents happening where DTDC is involved. And, there are many more such people with complaints there, and a couple of them saying DTDC is the best must be one of their own.

@Faheem : Do let us know if we could give you a helping hand in retrieving the iPad.

@Gannu, its ok mate
What i said is that, if faheem post the story in short in their FB page and we continue the discussion there, then that might bring dtdc attention.

I dont really think posting on their FB page will do any good . Will shoot a mail to all the high level execs and also personally try to get in touch .

Had I been in Delhi and they wouldn't co-operate , I would surely stand outside their franchise and shoo away all their customers by telling them the incident . A loss of business is something they wouldn't want .

The other thing that can be done is maybe make them believe them that the device can be traced by showing them mobile me - find my iPhone service which can surely scare them !

Just imagine if somebody else in your house accepted the package unknowingly in your absence!!
This thing happened to me when i bought Mp4Nation's sFLO and got a bag full of chinese tea leaves :@

Yeah if Nehal can help us out with any possible legal statements or possibilities , it would be helpful .
^^ Sorry... I just saw this thread... Feel really sorry about your loss... :(

Now, from what I have gathered from the thread:

1) The ipad was indeed shipped by the seller. The Weight was 1.1kg when shipped but the package weighed < 200gms on delivery.

2) You refused to accept the consignment and have not signed the receipt.

3) Seller shipped the consignment without insurance and declared it just as a electronic good (not an ipad).

Now, did the seller include any declaration written by and signed by him with the consignment?? Courier people ask you to furnish this declaration when sending stuff and they rely on this declaration to fix the amount of liability that they owe in case of loss or damage.

This is a clear case of Theft but unfortunately, there is no evidence on your side to prove that the theft was of an ipad valued at 15k in the absence of a clear declaration or valuation at insurance. Plus, the courier people are covered by their fineprint which is actually B.S. :@

Try this: Tell the DTDC franchise that in case they do not assure you of a trace and find of the lost package, you plan to file an FIR of the theft and the delivery office of DTDC and the person delivering the package to you shall be booked as you are only aware of them and have no connection whatsoever with the booking branch. Ask the seller to do the same with the booking branch. A theft FIR followed by arrests would be the least bit pleasant for the DTDC guys and they might take up the task of finding your ipad in full earnest.

Hope all turns out well... DTDC = Dirty Thieves & Dacoits Courier :@

^^ The last para has some good suggestion.

@faheem

You and the sender both try to contact the DTDC regional offices at Mumbai and Delhi. The DTDC customer care is awful.

Delhi Regional Office

Also write a complain, sign it and fax to the DTDC Bangalore corporate office with "ATTN: Ms. Radhika P, Senior Manager, CSS" - they do give more importance to Fax (written complaint) than email.

I think while packaging we should take care of such things.

I usually use atleast three layers of packing but still it can be bullet proof but NOT DTDC PROOF ;)

People, first of all do not make comments that seller should have packaged this way and that way and all such. What is done is done. they will be better careful next time. Now we think on how to get back to Ipad from those thieves.
Though it might not sound right to all you guys but I personally feel what skumar said holds some truth . I have been shipping atleast 2-3 parcel every month on an average using either DTDC or Aramex . Anyone who has ever bought a product from me will vouch for my bullet proof packaging and particular ways of making it tamper proof .Especially the one's who have bought high valuable products from me like iPhones,mobiles or the recent galaxy tab sale. Firstly its always advisable to pack it with multiple layers of bumble wrap + newspapers + completing taping .Such packaging takes atleast 5-10 mins to unpack and the one trying to inspect such package with theft intentions might not open it .

One of most tamper-proof method is signing on all edges/ seals of the package . This really keeps the courier guys away from tampering the package because they know that the person at delivery will never accept the package with missing signatures. This has been suggested to me personally by most courier guys from whom Ive been availing the services.

I had given similar instructions to Mainak as well before he shipped it but he forgot to sign on the package and I am not sure (incase DTDC tampered) if he used multiple layers of packaging on the outside cause when I received it - the outer box had only tapes from all edges and no external packaging for the main box. Only the insides were wrapped in bubblewrap and kept in this box :( . This surely makes it easy for anyone to cut a slit and see the contents of package.

I personally feel , the right packaging reduces the chances of theft by 99% . I am learning it the hard way . I hope the mods make a sticky page out of all the packaging tips members have over here to prevent such incidents from taking place.

I always use brown taping for the ENTIRE package. no matter how big. It was suggested to me by my local pafex guy in trivandrum. Who I always used for sending. Used him for over 150 packages.All fine. *touchwood*

^^ I personally feel that packaging has little to do for a thief. He'll steal it irrespective of the quality of packaging if he has to.

I have received shipments of air rifles/pistols and the shipments have been shipped just by wrapping the rifle cases with brown paper... Now, this is done so that if there is some authority clearance is required at airports/checkpoints, the package can be easily be opened for inspection.

I never lost a single slug, leave alone the rifles/pistols that cost a lot more than a cellphone and/or an ipad.

It ultimately depends upon the courier company. I never had any issues with TNT and BlueDart. Never heard of any issues with them either. Yes, they charge a premium and require you to sign 'n' number of declarations (especially for rifles/pistols) but they atleast provide peace of mind.

What a bad day. I met Mainak by taking contact details from Faheem to bash DTDC guys. All conversation started as follows. We went inside, only a**hole or so called manager was sitting there. We straight away went to him and explained the complete case to him. After that I said (or threatened :p ) that the electronic item that we sent have a GPS tracker and also holds an IMEI number so it can easily be traced in minutes once it is switched on for the first time. So better solve this case mutually rather than moving to legal grounds. On which he said that we've not stolen anything or so, infact we will personally suggest you to take a legal step if you have such a loss, but since we are not at fault so why would be fear from any such move. In fact we will accept the decision made by jury. To which I added (fake story) that once my iphone 4 was lost and I told my Dad and he have some high contacts so I received it back in 3-4 days and thief was putted behind bars. So I would again suggest that we should mutually end this up. To which he again replied that sir we are perfectly fine with posting an FIR or any such thing since we at over center are not at fault. Then he mention 2 things : Firstly, you (Mainak) had not put down the proper declaration stating that the product present inside the package is worth 15k. So nothing can be done in this regard. Secondly, package was not insured by him(Mainak) so as we've clearly mentioned in fine print that for uninsured package, liability of DTDC is maximum upto 100Rs. I was like WTF, you throwing chillars against 15k worth product. OMG. And to add more salt he added that we've to write a written complaint on a piece of paper and it'll be forward to regional office and reply will be received in 15 working days. To this I got the feeling that they (buyer and seller) got screwed now. :(

In short, in our complete talk with them, I got an intuition that this theft is not done at this center since I was closely observing all the things. And also, this was only the intuition I was getting, not talking on anyone's behalf.

@Faheem

Please do let me know if I can do anything for you and contact me without any hesitation in future.

At the end of day, I think buyer and seller have to bear the complete loss minus 100rs. :(

Lets hope for the best.
