koolmainak's iPad sale thread - item missing from consignment

Seems DTDC cares not even 2 hoots.

@Mayank:

Nice gesture that you went to the nodal office. Really considerate.

@asingh

Pleasure is entirely mine. Even Ankxxs (Ankush) was also about to join us but he had an interview in noida that's why he missed the meeting.

I hope all this ends well.

I think by using the docket no. we can know every place where the package might have had some stoppages,so using this info ppl on TE closest to those places can go enquire and threaten them.

As they would not be in contact with the main franchisees we can go and threaten them that we got info that the theft has taken place there itself and we can force a conviction out of them

I know this may sound very impracticable but this is the only hope

I dunno what to say .. I really dunno . Nothing has been right about this. I wish atleast the declaration was proper if not for the insurance or the packaging :( Even if it was mentioned as electronic item , should have been mentioned with some value of 4-5k atleast . Mayank told me on the phone that the package was declared as package with no commercial value . This was like an open invitation for these to steal and say we don't care , do what you want legally cause we are liable for only 100 bucks :(.

Here are some details from the tracking . I will once again go to the local DTDC delivery office and try to fight it out .

It was certainly a bad part from the seller's side that he did not declare the item properly. By not doing so, we have almost lost the case here and look at the way the manager at DTDC responded - he seemed to have been confident that his company was not at fault at all! And by not packing it properly, it simply shows the carelessness from the seller's end.

Ofc, the only way we can counter-argue is by claiming the weight loss of the consignment.

Besides, the seller has 0 itrust ratings. I'd advise members to deal with folks having 0 or lower itrust ratings, in person and seal the deal. Call me naive but I'd always prefer dealing with friends and members with whom I've dealt before over newbies. No offense to you Mainak, but it is pretty depressing to see the turn of events from your very first deal. It would have been much better if Dhruv or someone else could have met Mainak in person, collected the iPad and sent it to Faheem.

@Faheem

I want to inform you one more thing bro, as you are thinking to bash each and every place from where the parcel passed, so in this regard I want to tell you that on our end we can see only the big offices through which it traveled, once I saw tracking result at the DTDC center and there it showed many placed/offices through which it passed on. Still I'm not disheartening you, I just want to make you aware of this crap fact. :(

I wish matter gets solved quickly.

@ Faheem---- We need the detailed trackign with weight which is only available with the DTDC franchises. Then only you can locate where it got stolen exactly. I feel its the branch from where you collected as thats why nothing else was filled up to put the weight as same. So you have to try some pressure tactics there. Go as a group or find some local influential people and go to the DTDC ofc where you collected it and do some tight talking and try to get it sorted.

As of the blame it was really horrible to see the buyer pack the thing in 5 min...run to DTDC...pay 180 bucks and ship it off ! Thats not the way to sell things on TE. If someone is so careless he better off abosrb the loss now. Why not put a declaration at least or pack it in another cardboard box ! Is it so hard and people have no time when sending such an expensive item.

Dont want to bring my case....I bought a ZTE Blade from a TE seller and guess what he warapped in 3-4 sheet of paper and put it a small raddi box w/o any bubble warp and minimal cello tape. Thank God that was also via DTDC (that also normal DTDC Lite) but I got it safe only because the local delivery office knows me very well and they will never pull a quick one on me. And that since that seller was again with zero feedback I bought it via ebay with Paisapay protection on my side. I spent Rs 300 more may be but if something had happened I didn't have to loose my sleep.

I am sure Faheem you should have done the deal on ebay and this could have been averted ! Its not the sellers fault as he might have never traded on an online platform like TE and not aware what happened with scores of ppl on TE with DTDC.

The Fine Print... :(

This is where it all goes southwards... In the absence of a clear contents declaration from the seller, there is nothing you can do legally. I am not saying that you shouldn't try the pressure tactics but if they fail, you don't have a legal safety valve.

UNLESS, the seller claims that he had furnished a hand written declaration (clearly indicating therein that the contents were an iPad worth ~ 15k value) to the booking branch and stick to that story. Then, you can blame DTDC for losing/destroying the declaration and have a case on your side.

An FIR with that story would be a shocker for DTDC.

*cant believe I am doing this* But it's all about protecting the good and punishing the evil... isn't it?? :ashamed:

so what about faheem loosing his cash here? dont u guys think its the seller's responsibility for a item to reach the buyer???? i think he should pay faheem the money back here coz clearing everything has been wrong on his part, not packing it OR declaring it correct + undervalue + no insurance... at the end of it, a guys paid 15k for ipad accesories. just not done. forgive me if im rude here, but i cant get myself to trust a guy with 0 itrust rating... i think he should own up and sort it out. i dont think goin to offices and asking nicely will work anymore. its a headache the seller now needs to do and get it back through legal way or through someone who wants to help at dtdc. the buyer at no fault here needs to get his cash back.

I spoke to the seller yesterday night after there seemed to be things working out with DTDC unless the seller is ready to take some extreme steps . I really wanted to ask for a full refund cause there seems to be no fault of mine and Mainak did own up to a little carelessness from hiss side . So I told him to think about it and work on a settlement , in which if not the full amount he atleast tries to refund me maximum possible amount from his side.(10k+) I felt bad about making him lose all his money even though he did screw up.

All this talk happened yesterday night on the phone and he said he will think about it and let me know .

Now there's a major twist and turn to this event . Here are the mails replies I got from all the senior DTDC staff to whom I had mailed. Please go through and decide for yourself . Something is really really fishy here ! Either from DTDC's side or the seller or maybe both together ! :mad: :mad:

Dear Mr. Fahim Maldar

Prima facia investigation shows that, the shipment was booked at 445 gms and attempted for delivery at the same weight.

However, by forwarding this mail communication to our Zonal Head North, Mr. Amit Shankdhar, I am requesting him to get this investigated at the origin / booking level.

^^ Good to see that e-mail to Suresh of DTDC really did help things out :)

I was always suspecting something fishy as if at all there is some stealing on transit they usually cover it by putting something so that the weight is same. So this has happened either before booking or at the booking couter or at the place where u collected from. At ur branch is ruled out now because of the weight. SO only possibilities are :

1. It was shipped at 445gm w/o the ipad.

2. It was stolen at the booking counter , repacked and then shipped.

Since the whole thing has happened is sure at sellers place. I think Faheem 1st thing u need to do is to get full or partial refund from the seller.

@ Faheem--- Plz call up the booking counter and grill them for the weight. Also on the CNF (Consignment receipt) please ask the seller to scan and send it to you . Crosscheck with the CNF from the booking counter, they can also email the same to you. Lot of things should be clear after that.

Btw Faheem dont be so much worried now....this will get resolved soon until the seller does not co-operate :)

^ 0.455 kg / 0.5 kg and 500 grams would all mean the same I assume . The iPad wi-fi model weights close to ~700 grams and with the box an accessories it should atleast weight 1kg ! So its clear that there was no iPad in the package from the point of Vijayanagar- DELHI DTDC. What I now need to find out is weather the iPad was there at the time of the booking . Assuming the seller has nothing do with this , I would just assume that the iPad was flicked from the booking office only .

To make things clear, Ive asked an explanation from DTDC officials , for the 1.1kg marked on the receipt of the DTDC consignment. Also calling up the booking office right now to see what they have to say .

^^ is that possible, wasn't the seller present at the dtdc office when the ipad was packed.
@faheem, when seller said that he had shipped the ipad, did he give you any softcopy of the dtdc receipt ?

Faheem, this is a shocking incident but not new for DTDC. I too have lost my prescription Oakley glasses worth 25k with them. No settlement till date.

I am pm-ing you for help. I would like to have the email ids. of the higher ups at DTDC if you don't mind.

Thanks a ton Supratik for the email id of Mr.Suresh . That really made things clear as he forwarded to all the other officials. Also what you have stated in pt.1 and 2 is exactly what I think.

Also even if the booking office guys flicked it , I am sure its because of the carelessness of the seller in not declaring it and insuring it . This just made things very easy for them . Till yesterday , I was ready to accept a partial refund but now I wont accept anything other than a full refund . This is just too messed up for me to be considerate. :mad: :mad:

Sorry if I sound rude but for someone who spends 20-30 mins packing products that he ever sells to TE/online buyers and takes extra care in packing ,insuring and then choosing the right courier service as well as franchise .All this just to ensure that the buyer never has to bear any loss - so much of carelessness for an expensive gadget ,is just beyond belief and tolerance.

I haven't been provided with a soft copy but I checked the carbon copy that was attached to the package and it said 1.1KG.
