As the thread title says, need help choosing between the B850 and X870/E motherboards.

For example many motherboards with these chipsets are around similar price point like:
Asus ROG Strix B850-F - 34k
Asus Prime X870-P - 35k
ASRock X870E Nova - 37k

I have no use for the USB 4. Not even in the near future. I'm good with the USB 20gbps for a long time.
I also prefer the Intel 2.5g LAN in the B850-F. No need overclocking except for RAM XMP/EXPO.
Most probably will be pairing with a Ryzen 9900X CPU and 6400/7200Mhz 2x24GB RAM.

So I'm planning to get the B850-F. Please tell me what am I missing?

Considering these factors, why spend so much on a B850/X870? They are pretty pointless unless you need the extra lanes.

Get a good B650 for 10k less or X670 for the price of an entry-level B850, unless you have a specific requirement?

i would get B650E/X670E motherboard, you are future proof with PCIE5 with this, asrock steel legend/msi gaming plus both available under 24k.
Isn't the Asrock X870 pro rs much better, it has all the features + usb4 and is available for 22k?

The B850 boards have just recently launched and not many options are available and the price are also quite high so of you want a cheaper board B650 is a no brainer. But if you want to spend over 20k then go for the X870 boards as they have all the features of the x670 boards + some extra features at the same prices.

Not preferring the B650/X670/E because I want the latest model number, they also have better resale value and better traces esp. for DDR5 higher speeds and stability.

Then, I want an Intel NIC as it has the least amount of issues with drivers esp. with Linux. Sadly, I'm yet to find an Asrock board with an Intel NIC. Most Asus boards have Intel NIC. Asus also has better BIOS UI. Other than that Asrock are good

Also the problem with the X870 is that it wastes precious PCIE lanes on useless (for me) USB4. So have to go for the X870E.

Asus B650E-F has Intel NIC but it is the older one. also 12+2 power stages.

Will do more researching and thinking for atleast a month till I say fk it and buy something :D

btw this is a great spreadsheet for AM5 boards https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NQHkDEcgDPm34Mns3C93K6SJoBnua-x9O-y_6hv8sPs/

The pro rs actually has an accessible m.2 wifi card which you can replace for an intel one and for the ethernet you could add a separate card. Can't do much about the wasted lanes on usb4 though as I suspect that most Asus x870 boards are going to have that by default.

Honestly, all 3 of those Asus mobos are not a good choice. If money doesn't matter to you, then don't ask here, buy what your heart desires.

For 16k, get Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2, it has 3x M.2 slots.

MSI X670E Gaming Plus Wifi is 24k - if you want 4x M.2 slots & Gen5 PCIe & M.2 slot. Anything above this is a waste of money IMO.

Agreed, just go with whatever fulfills your desires (ofc in your budget) .

But since you did mention your reasons for a 800 series motherboard, the ASUS , Msi do seem to have good options in the market

But as mentioned by @OMEGA44-XT options mentioned by them, the 600 series is way cheaper but also with only little downsides.

IMO B850 is worthless. Either go with B650 budget models as many suggested OR get the latest X870E. Gigabyte Aorus elite is decent/Asrock taichi is the best.

OP already mentioned that USB4 is not needed, IMO I don't think there are any other differences between X670E & X870E at chipset level

OP also mentioned he wants the latest chipset so suggested the X870E model. B850 Mobo for 34K is utter garbage, dont want anyone go near that.

You never know, one day you might want USB 4.0 OR AMD launch new CPU that gets faster support for X870E over the X670 like they did with AM4 5000 series/B350 chipset
OR you have bad OCD problem that cant accept X670 for 9000 series CPU. :)
