Ok, since my Dad is considering his office buying my current rig / or a frnd might buy it.

Just the proccy / ram / mobo.

Im considering this. From Newegg.com... Its coming with a relative this March.

AMD Opteron 165 - 325$ :ohyeah: | Should i go with something a tad better?

DFI LanParty Ultra-D - 130$ | Should i go with the Expert?

2 * WD Raptors 36.7GB - 203$

Patriot Signature 2GB (2 x 1GB) - 155$ << Overclocks like a b**ch! People @ XS have done 280 with it. :ohyeah:

Tax: $59.01

Shipping: $23.63

Total: $896.62

Im not going AM2 anytime soon.. Maybe next year. It only adds DDR2 support :bleh:.

Ill stick with my x800xl currently. Will upgrade when my Dad goes in May.

So what parts should i get?

Only CPU/Mobo/Ram.

Edit : Ill also be getting the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS - 68%

Edit 2 : Should i go for the DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 SLI-DR Expert ?? :/..

Welll... I will suggest you to get a 170 if possible... And ASUS A8N 32 SLI... Much much better then an DFI... Why cause we are going dual core and i have a good enough explanation...

yea, i agree. cuz see this way. the first am2 proccy's will be 5000 and 5200+ (and fx 62 :P) and it will be very difficult to afford them. so getting this rig now and getting a gfx card upgrade in may/june/july sounds like a sane choice.

get a 7900gtx then. iw ill be aroujnd $650 mark. all depends on ur budget..

PS: regd the expert, i dunno...... the initial bugs have been ironed out and its no longer a cpu toaster. so if u budget permits, it is the board to go with......

@ Switch.. Why?

The ASUS A8N32-SLI, has a Max VCore of 1.55V.

Plus it has issues with 1T Timings over 250 Mhz Ram.

Plus, why arent you using your ASUS A8N32-SLI right now eh? Why the Ultra-D? Hmm?

hmm i aint so sure abt the 1T issue. but many incompatibilites have been reported while doing tight timings and 1T at above 250 Mhz......... (@ XS forums)

max vcore of 1.55V can be a big limitation (or a boon too :P)

Cool GF :D !

Though I suggest getting the DFI in India cause warranty will be a lot easier..;)

I love that RAM and try getting a Opty 170..:)

Im talking about Transfer times, etc.

I know raid-0 can be slower in seek times.

That review doesnt show me 36.7 GB in Raid-0 vs. 74gb Raptor. :(.

Ok first of all A8N32 is not limited to 1.55vcore

its 1.75 max vcore on that board.

2nd of all there is 1 ground rule. No HDD purchase from abroad. Never Ever ever do that.

And get 170 or you need preety good luck with steppings as well.

If you really want good 165 or 170 its luck. You might wana book good stepping thats available in india at the moment and that too right in mumbai ;)

The 1 thing that you need the most is GFX card upgrade :P

IF you would let me know Funky, where did you get your Opty from, and for how much, id love it. :).

Please pm me.

I second funky - don't risk buying hard drives outside India - they could easily fail and getting a replacement is near impossible considering the logistics.

All my hard disk are from abroad.

MY WB 160GB on the 2nd PC.

and this 250GB.

Plus, im had a worse time with this 40gb samsung, than i ever had with my 250 / 160gb drives.

Had to run around for 2 hours in lamington to get my samsung 40gb replaced. It came ****ed :(.

Seriously a hdd from abroad isnt recommended. I'd suggest a video card upgrade as well if you can squeeze in that. Also the lowest price i could find on a 165 was 328$ dollars which comes to around 15k. I'd rather spend 2.5k or so more and get warranty. :)

but Blade_Runner the much cheaper cpu bought from abroad will also be having "Full Warranty". infact for some guys it is much cheaper to get replacement from abroad then spending more time and money running after the local dealers here .....
