Blady, i may go with the Opty 170 too.

Unless Funky, guarantees me the same stepping as his for the 165 from India.

He stil lhasnt replied to my PM though.

Hows funky's stepping guys? 1.4 V and 2700 Mhz?...

@dj: Yep i know cpus from abroad carry full warranty but what about the expenses of sending the cpu back and forth in case anything goes wrong.

Just a suggestion from my side, since its goldys decision finally.

but Blade_Runner the much cheaper cpu bought from abroad will also be having "Full Warranty". infact for some guys it is much cheaper to get replacement from abroad then spending more time and money running after the local dealers here .....

Well deejay, its good for "some" guys like you to send things back to us. Not for majority of us M8. ;)

And as far as processor is concerned you dont need to run behind any dealers.

For AMD you need to write email to AMD india with your serial no. They will send bluedart person to collect the CPU and HSF from you. They will get 1 form filled. And take the cpu giving you a confirmation that they have taken cpu from you and CPU will be delivered back to you again.

No hastles.

Of course even dealer can do this for you. thats where good dealers count. They dont make you run behind them

And i have asked, AMD wont honour warranty for processors bought outside india here.

@ GOLDY check your PM. I can promise you exact same stepping. but for limited time as only 1 more is left.

What if i get a bad stepping? Else should i spend 17.1k + tax, thats like 3k more, on a 165 from here. Funky's stepping...
I really have no idea, whether youd call funky's stepping good.

Okay Lets see how much the stuff would cost in India
Proccy - 17.5K
RAM - 8.5K
Hard drive 10.5K
DFI Ultra-D 8.5K

Total: 45K (could be lower, I've taken highest price possible)
US Price: 900*46 = ~41.5K plus bribing the customs guys.

Also the US price carries no warranty here. I'd rather grab everything in India. Risking warranty for 3K ain't worth it.

Well of course. I have seen many 165 hit a wall at around 2.4-2.5Ghz. this has gone to 2.7 6+ hours prime stable on both cores on day 0001. I would definitely call it good.
Rest is up to you. If you dont call this good you better check your greed within yourself :P hehehe.

A sensible and vfm guy buying cheaply (from here or abroad... it does not matter ) usually has the means to send and receive the RMA products at very little cost.:D

@ goldie,
i strongly suggest that you wait for the upcoming and soon to be released AM2 platform. that would be more future proof.
nf4 chipset is nearly EOL .... for you it would be too little too late. you would be better of getting a cheap nf4 m/b from here (3~4K max) and pair it with a 3000+ or opty 144 /146 cpu (cheaply , from the same guys who are upgrading to DC):ohyeah:

performance difference between the SC and DC opty's is nothing to write home about given the dearth / lack of applications ....the newer DC cores to be released with the AM2 will be a different ball game.;)

anyways it is ur decision ultimately ...You are the best judge of ur needs.

ps:I was merely trying to get into ur good books so that in future gaming sessions you wont kill me before i can even select a proper gun ...

Deejay, understand 1 thing..

AM2 proccies, when they release, the 5000+ and the 4800+ are the only Dual Core's to be released, at launch. So give or take a few months, then youll see lower. So first of all affording a 4800+ or 5000+ will be impossible. Also, if they do come out with the lower end CPU's it means that the stepping will be bad, and that they didnt manage to get good yields and test them to 5000+ standards.

Plus, whats the real difference between AM2 and 939? DDR2 memory?

Thats about it?

Chaos , the above $900 includes $ 60 tax (Rs.2750) which in most cases is not applicable. guess goldie must be getting it delivered to california or NJ.
also where will you get 2GB patriot signature rams here in India for Rs. 8.5K ?? it would be in the range of 10 ~ 12K atleast.
so if you calculate the actual difference it comes to around 8 ~ 9K atleast ....

you are now getting Micron 1 GB x 2 sticks in India for 8.4K totally....

And those are among the best oc'ers in the market DJ....

I really dont know what to do guys.

Thing is that what i said earlier,

is stuck in my head.

I really believe that this will happen.

I really really dont know what to do :(.

ignorance is bliss ....
the difference is too complicated for you to comprehend.;)

(suffix to say those will be released from 2 GHZ speeds too...and not only at the speeds of 5000+ that you think )

anyways frag away ...dont let ur mind wander over these mundane technical matters leave that for us poor guys.

neverthless dont shoot me early in the next gaming session ..:cool2:

@ Switch.. Why?
The ASUS A8N32-SLI, has a Max VCore of 1.55V.
Plus it has issues with 1T Timings over 250 Mhz Ram.

Plus, why arent you using your ASUS A8N32-SLI right now eh? Why the Ultra-D? Hmm?

As Funky clarified, its not 1.55V its 1.78V max Vcore and that kinda Vcore is never needed for Dual Cores.
Next thing, there is no 1T issue with this board...:@
That issue was there with A8N SLI Dlx not this board.
I took my UCCC to 270 @ 1T keep that in mind. Its a brilliant board.

Well i dont think A8N32 SLI and DFI Ultra-D are pitched against each other so i donno how come you ask such a question.

No, i was just asking why Switch uses his Ultra-D if the Asus A8N32 Sli is much better?

Anyways, Deejay re, dont make fun of me. I want a future proof rig. But i just need to know is it worth the wait?

What if i end up getting a bad stepping? Thatll suck.

No1 on TE would want to buy it too. Like if i want to sell it and get a better stepping. Grr...

well coz switch got his dfi for 1/3 of the price of a new A8N32, but since u are buying new, its recommended that u go in for that, or if u want DFi that bad, then u can take Switch's DFi and give him and A8Ne32 :ohyeah: (which ill later take from switch, lol)

Alright.

thats it then. Going for the Opty 165.

Wil ltalk to my dad over lunch today.

I think ill get the opty from where Funky got it. Its an good stepping.

2700 Mhz at 1.4 Is nice. :).
