Thanks for your reply. Can you please clarify some points?

I was just looking through the Valve pages regarding these cards and here is what it says -

"Play any of the participating Trading Card games to get trading cards. Up to half the card set is dropped through game play, the other half is earned through your collecting prowess."

So one half is dropped into your inventory like you stated. Fine, clear about that. What about the -

"other half is earned through your collecting prowess"

Collecting prowess how? In game? Somewhere else?

And when you say "put it on the market" do you mean via Steam Trading or something else?

You can collect the other half by trading for them here www.reddit.com/r/SteamTradingCards, or you can buy it in the Community Market from your Steam Wallet. Put in the market means selling in the Community Market. Please note that Steam takes a 15% cut of any sale from the buyer, so if you put up a card for sale at $1, it will show up in the Market for $1.15.
 
But if I can trade the other half on reddit or buy them in the Community Market then so can anyone else.

What I'm trying to understand is - what makes a card a $200 or $300 card "special"? Where do these (I'm assuming) expensive, rare cards come from? In-game? Somewhere else? Curious to know...
 
Oh. Foil cards drop randomly which crafting badges for profiles which are level 10 and above. It's the rarity which makes (or used to) them expensive. When I first saw foil cards, only 4 people in whole world were selling them. The first listing was $400, then $300 and two people selling for $200. If you are ahead of the curve, you make money.

Was tempted to buy a few others, but didn't end up buying them. Will buy in Christmas sale. :P

Btw, can we activate retail copies of Max Payne 3 available here in Steam?

^^ This is correct, the boxed version of Max Payne 3 uses Rockstar Social Club DRM. Steam is selling it for $10, is it cheaper to buy from local retail?

That's what I'm wondering as well. I see it's going for 850-899 everywhere. But there are a couple of listings on ebay.in for around 650. That's about the same price on Steam right now.
 
Couple of points you need to keep in mind regarding the Steam ver specifically.

1) Even if you buy the Steam ver, you will still need to sign in to Rockstar Social Club plus the game also contain GameShield IronWrap - yet another layer of DRM. This is clearly mentioned on the Steam store page for MP3 -

"Other Requirements: Initial activation requires internet connection and a valid Rockstar Social Club account (13+ to register); Online play requires log-in to Rockstar Social Club (13+); software installation required including GameShield IronWrap; DirectX and Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)."

So this means potentially double layers of DRM with the Steam ver of MP3. If on the other hand, you buy the retail ver at least you wont have Steams DRM to contend with - only GameShield IronWrap. Your choice.

2) I believe its a 30GB download off Steam, so keep that in mind if you have a FUP with your ISP.
 
Ok thanks guys. Well I don't mind Steam's DRM. But Rockstar's DRM is unavoidable from what you said. Anyways, didn't buy MP3, again will see during Christmas sale. :p Thankfully I have that reason to not spend more. :p

However, it still didn't stop me from buying Torchlight II, Devil May Cry 3 and 4 bundle and Amnesia. :cyclops:

This summer sale has been the worst i've ever seen. Hardly any good deals + so many repeats already.
Going to idle Bioshock infinite over the weekend to get those stupid cards to sell :)
I have $7 from selling cards so far, will be completing Sleeping Dogs and Hotline Miami so i should have atleast 10 on Monday.

I could make only 2$ as i started selling the cards bit late.. Now i dont have HDD space to download new games and get cards :blackeye:
 
^^ Amazon have sold it for $10 multiple times in the past. Get it if you want it now, but it will be less in next Amazon sale.
 
I did not buy a single title this sale,

many times added it to cart, but than told my self,

I have 30+ games already bought in backlog (+ ps3 games)
$ conversion is high
There will always be the next sale

Same with me ... my backlog and the fact that i will have to download every game (within a cap of 30gb) made it easier to ignore all the titles in sale.
