so the bottomline is that a SBI account will fulfill all your required conditions but for [2]"The debit card issued should be a GRID based card which will enable me to shop online or book tickets ,etc.",

you need to apply separately as pointed out by varkey

SBI provides Visa Debit cards, but you have to apply for it separately. By default I think they give the Maestro cars

Wrong. That wasn't what he said. You need to apply separately for the VISA card since they give you a Maestro by default. Also, the GRID based card is an ICICI only feature, which does not enhance or take away anything from what the card can do.

In ebay payment option why SBI don't have listed net banking facilities....can anyone elaborate ?

According to HDFC Website.....Min balance for regular saving a/c is 10k else if you want zero balance you must FD 50k for that first.

I'm stuck in ebay only. If SBI offered ebay payment all problem solved

To everyone,

I would suggest combo of normal bank account(read: SBI savings a/c) + Internet Only bank account(Read: ICICI b2 savings account) = Best of both worlds. SBI account would have 1k bal and b2 would be zero balance. one bonus feature of b2 is spare cash would automatically considered as a "deposit" on which you will earn higher rate of interest(6-8%).

with b2, you get a VISA Card which NOT a debit card but its a Prepaid VISA card. so it would accepted all over the world whenever you see "VISA credit card accepted" sign which includes all major indian and international shopping portals:hap2:

I am doing the same from past 2years. I shop both on indian websites and as well international merchants(Paypal, Amazon etc).

btw, they issue a grid based security card too

PS: this is SSP(Shameles-self-publicity):P

^^ ICICI B2 a/c is a good option only as long as the facility is available in one's own city. Unfortunately, the last time I saw, the services were limited to as less as 15 cities. :(

The b2 visa card ( ewallet ) worked on ebay but did not work for me on many indian sites like tradus, futurebazaar, myntra and airtel.in and everytime i used there netbanking to shop online on any site i got an error when the webpage was redirecting from the bank website to the shop site after the payment was made, the amount gets deducted from the a/c but did not reflect on the shop site, i had to send a screenshot of statement to complete the transaction.

I applied for an ICICI B2 A/C, I think it's been 1month and they haven't contact me yet for documents.

I've an SBI A/c. I would say it's best for who want low deposit. Netbanking is really good. Applying a Yuva Card / some other Debit Card and a CC makes everything fine.

Contact the b2 sales manager of your area, he will send a representative to collect the docs, you can get the no of the b2 sales manager from cc.

I am stuck--it seems to avail all the features which would include ebay/online shopping i would have to go for hdfc or icici bank since sbi won't provide all that.

Unfortunately, they have done little to break the myth surrounding them that they are still haunted houses with no clue about technology whatsoever. Most of the SBI banks I have visited of late are air conditioned, have well mannered and genuinely friendly staff (unlike the plasticky smile on the faces of the private bank staff), and are computerised.

What impressed me about SBI has nothing to do with banking, in one of their branches they have this huge LCD screen on the wall playing Tom & Jerry cartoons :D

Never could imagine a govt bank doing this !!

One of the cashiers was telling me that customers got so engrossed with it that they frequently forget to come over when their number's called.

Been there many times and the staff was helpful & courteous. Course this depends on the branch so choose wisely.

It seems quite nice....I also check that my locality's pin code also in there....so I hope it is in my place too.

I read the first link i,e your blog....I'v 2 que.

You said a Representative will come to my house, what document I need to provide ?
Is the cheque from SBI A/C will move the money to the a/c ?

Please reply.

^ Yes a representative will come to collect the usual KYC Documents - ID Proof, Address Proof etc

You can deposit a SBI Cheque or can directly transfer the money by NEFT from your SBI to b2 account.

KYC means Know Your Customer.

Check here : Know your customer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

PS: SBI does provide higher level security thru option Enable High Security(in profile page). This way while doing transaction it sends a sms to your approved mobile no. for authentication of that transaction.

In this respect I think Canara Bank is better while having similar plans as SBI and good number of branches.
