Pixel 6a launched

Seeing videos of tech youtubers that this has some issues with fingerprint recognition. How can they mess something as simple as this especially when they dont even have face unlock.

One drive is just pure storage as a service. Google photos does so much more. Eg in my family we have rules set up in everyones phones that if facial recognition detects any of the kids photos they go into a shared album automatically.
Every time we go for a road trip we create a shared album and everyone adds their pictures to the shared album. Sure we can do this on one drive too, but because it's so well integrated to Google photos, it's a piece of cake.

When i saw the thumbnail of this video it put me off earlier, but he's quite ok.

If it overheats in NC then it definitely will in 38 degrees or more heat. Reminds me of the sony Xperia saying the camera wanted to take a break

Why is it that Samsung or Apple do not prevent you from using the camera at the same temperature? because they throttle the phone.

I don't mind the throttling but not being able to use the camera is a show stopper.
Out of all the kids who review phones Marqus is probably the most thorough user and forthcoming reviewer, so his remarks are mostly spot on.
Are you serious? all that MB guy does for me is come across like some slick salesman. I prefer YouTubers that have fewer followers. A lot less. They go way more in-depth and are very responsive to their viewers.

People have always been b**ching about pixel's FPS. Even with the 6 Pro

My friends are regretting purchasing Google 6A. Only saving grace is that they can run GrapheneOS. Google should go back to LG / Huawei as their OEM and use a TSMC manufactured Qualcomm chip.

I am waiting for Xiaomi to allow relocking the bootloader. I'll then run LineageOS with my own optimizations and relock the bootloader to get the benefit of verified boot security implementation.

And don't forget the flashbacks it gives about what you did on this day/week 2 years ago.

I do not think that the product management teams at Google are aware about the ground realities of the Indian market. Why the regret? The screen?

Are they using a screen protector or did this phone come with a default screen protector and they registered their fingerprint with it on?
I don't think google provides any default screen protector. Anyway here are the videos link you can check for yourself.

Hope its just a software thing.

Clear now, these reviewers would remove any default protector. A good catch by the reviewers.

I wonder if there is any 'fast' setting default enabled. Samsung had something like that on earlier phones and its a less secure check but opens faster.

I think this is software related. Part of the usual 'yeah bugs, we'll fix it' experience. This is not unusual it is normal.

I still wonder whether people who complain about 4A went through the Nexus experience.

If 4A was your first google phone it will be jarring. That's just the way it is at the bleeding edge. You get to eat dog food.

Other workarounds exist to get in. passcode or swipe gestures. Use those while they fix it. LG also had knock codes.

@blr_p There is nothing bleeding edge here as told to you by many members here. There are much better fingerprint sensors available even in the cheaper phones. It's an epic fail from Google. I had a Nexus 5 and I had no issues with it. LG was the OEM. That Samsung 'fast' setting is for face unlock and not for fingerprint scanning.

60hz, etc compromises was known before purchase. Throttles like crazy (doubt this can be fixed since it's made on an inferior samsung node and exynos have throttling issues), fingerprint sensor issue (will be fixed with software update) and other ui bugs. It's like you are giving premium for an inferior quality product.

I do not personally mind the slow fingerprint of Pixel 6. My LG G8x has a slow fingerprint and it works fine for me.

Infact I was keen on getting the Pixel 6 except I got a very good deal here on TE classified for a Iqoo 9 pro and i love it.

Erm, what am I missing here?
I still feel Google Pixel phones have a better stock experience than all other phones.
I have used a Realme X2 Pro and LG G8X in the last couple of years.
I have also heard other people complain about the problems with bloatware in Xiaomi and Samsung phones
I usually trust reviews from "The Verge" and they have good things to say about it.

The camera works, the battery life is good, and no bloatware.
It will have updates for 5 years.
I don't want the fancy megapixels and the fastest processor.
I just need basic performance from a phone which fits in my hand.

After researching, I found Pixel 4a was perfect for me (owing to its size and camera). Now that is one area I think this phone (6a) isn't to my liking.

Also, if they are offering a good exchange value (16k odd) for the Pixel 4a, I think it is a very good buy.

I would buy it, but I want to use my Pixel 4a till it is out of juice. So, perhaps I will wait for the next generation of Pixel.

Samsung is better when you want a higher end phone. Their mid range phones still have a lot of bloatware. And the better A models are not available in India.

Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo etc are good for people who want to tinker with their phones, adding custom roms and rooting etc.

I just want a functioning phone for my daily needs, which takes good photos, and doesn't burn a hole in my pocket, like an Iphone does.

So, Pixel seems to be the choice.

The Verge is not a tech site, more of a lifestyle one. Dieter was still okay reviewing Android phones but the new writers are not up to scratch as they just end up giving too much of a personal opinion rather than an objective review.

On topic, the Pixel will end up burning a bigger hole than iPhone, especially during sales. Pixel never had the software finish or support of an iPhone and will probably never will but may be it makes sense for those who prefer Google's Android.

They have priced it the same as iPhone SE3...although se3 makes no sense but now with the pixel at the same price people got a reason to get the SE3.

The Verge used to be a more Tech specific site for sure. I haven't had any reason to doubt their reviews as yet though.

If not Pixel 6a, which phone would you suggest for the features that I listed? It has one of the best camera, good Android experience, and decent specs for that price. Plus 5 years of updates. I personally did not find anything as good, when I was buying the Pixel 4a - in the ~30k range. I know that we Pixel 6a is more expensive, but they have a very good exchange offer for Pixel users.

How many on Android 13 ?

Have never been a fan of that site. Let alone trust what they say. Good at bashing and controversy raking.

But they go through many people and some are better than others.
