Programs you watch on Indian Television

Of course. All of it. It was one of the breakfast staples for Sundays. Then He-Man, Spider Man, and the evening movie. We all waited for. Also the Star Trek runs, before Mahabharata came around...! The streets / colonies used to be isolated. Only KBC has had this maniacal following.

I asked that because several attempts has been made lately to recreate that magic but everytime it turned out to be a disaster. Howz this one airing on *:yuck:+ ?

Nothing beats the serial quality we got in old DD only days. Both Hindi and English.
When cable had just begun, star, Sony etc used to air really good local and foreign programs.

Now quality of Hindi programs seems to have become really bad with production houses trying for longest running time rather than story or quality.

We should go back to DD days where a series was allowed just 20 or so episodes of telecast instead of the 1000+ depressing episodes being allowed now.

even if you watch documentaries of yesteryears now, like those of the 70s, 80s, 90s, you can't help but express pity over the kind being shown since past few years.

I am subjected to watching some really awful serials these days like Meri Bhabhi and Bani Ishq Da Kalma...you have to see them to believe when i say they are utmost crap that they can dish out. There is absolutely no shame and same stuff happens in all tv serials (which i am subjected to watch). I try to most of the times see my stuff on tablet.

I would rather watch re runs of sarabhai vs sarabhai. Star One was a channel with some good content but it shut down. Good things stop and bad and awful serials continue.

though none such serial is watched at my home, but i can understand your anguish. such serials are severely repulsive! quite thankfully, we have recorders, youtube & other streaming websites, as well DVDs of old shows available now to bank upon!

star utsav had some nice shows on it (re-runs of old shows). is it still on air?

Star utsav became colors I think.
Only dd bharti airs some old shows now.
Last time I was channel surfing, I saw Bharat Ek Khoj being aired on it.

Edit: star one became life OK.
Star utsav is as is.
Colors is part of the Viacom network.
Sorry.

yes, DD Bharati is another channel that airs old shows! Byomkesh Baskhi, to quote one.
didn't know that Life OK was formerly Star One! thanks for sharing that info![DOUBLEPOST=1386334724][/DOUBLEPOST]
I am not even sure if anyone watches Life OK.

its just another channel in the morass to burden the unaware-but-already-burdened viewer! no meaningful content in that channel i think. they had some show about some police officers-team. once saw in a ridiculous ad that that same show went the hollywood way, and those police officers are now fighting monsters & evil creatures to 'save the world'!

still love it.(old mahabharat). the pace was tremendous for a serial of 40+ minutes runtime.
recently it was aired on the cable channel and everybody in my family were glued to it
aired again on star utsav and the result was the same then too.

That's because (as per 'Bheeshm' - Mukesh Khanna), the old one had actors in it, and not (stubbly-face) models! :D

Yes it had pace and was quite robust. Specially the voice-over in the beginning. That was just awesome. And the back-ground score was awesome. Hum-Log, Buniyad and Mahabharat were/are the stellar champions of Doordarshan. Oh..those simple times. Not to miss: Saptayaki (people would sit with their notebooks) and Chitrahar.

Sigh.....

And, Surabhi!!

HOMP, Zaika India Ka, Chakh Le India: Kachcha Raasta, and India's Most Haunted were 3 of my most-watched shows in the fairly recent times. miss the last one (also, Maano Ya Na Maano; this one was re-run on Star One or Star Utsav some years back i think). watching only Vande Maataram on Aaj Tak now a bit regularly.
