Programs you watch on Indian Television

I was talking about the annotations which we have to disable via settings button.
And I have adblock plus in SRWare Iron, but still ads play.

I still use Opera 12.16 so I simply use the extension 'YouTube AdsFree', ads don't play thanks to it.

^I don't think there were enough viewers for the channel. Something that plagued Animax as well.

In Animax's case things turned out to be a different story later on. I think they didn't renew their contract but when Tata Sky pulled the plug I nearly pulled the plug on Tata Sky. Considering Animax's situation now I am glad I didn't.
The old Animax drop thread - Link
After Animax a few other channels were dropped/restored, none I cared for or will care for enough to call up Tata Sky for.

P.S.: How come I only remember Danger Mouse and Count Duckula from Home TV, what else was on it? I was more glued to Zee TV at that time.

has been 8 years since i watched even one episode of anything on tv
only cnn ibn or times now for news

the tv serials i watch are all foreign downloaded from torrents

I think the first and only channel to have Cantonese dramas like Zu Mountain Saga and himigiri ka veer.

I dont know what has been plaguing me of late.. but now i cant bear to sit in front of the television.
A cousin of mine came visiting and we sat for a meal with the tv showing the reg masala sitcom. I couldnt bear the atrocity being aired even though i had my back to the tv!
I tried my best, but when the ads started off.. I simply excused myself and dashed out of the room.
Finished my dinner alone, and the rest (3 females) merrily switched between the serials which had the Godforsaken drama AND CID.

I dont even like the Kapil's comedy show. The non stop comedy and not deploying the idea of 'seasons' has ensured that even the comedies have started to become 'foohad'. Not to forget, the gfn film fraternity uses it as a platform for promotion/hype.

Seriously, the days of DD were the best.. Where we heard good, chaste, meaningful and clean regional languages. DD channel should be given top priority and i hope they bring their own shows back with a plan.

Biggest thing i observed is that the ads during the 90s were far better than what we see these days.. Content wise, and vis a vis comparing the usage of English too.

Nope. Himgiri ka veer aired on ZeeTv and was the first of those dubbed serials we saw.
HomeTv later picked up stuff like Zu Mountain Saga, Legend Of Condor Heroes, Blood stained intrigue etc.

I dont think that could have been the case. Home Tv was THE biggest channel (in terms of entertainment value) when it came. Was an instant hit.
It came as a breath of fresh air and the quality of content was brilliant. Serials like Jaane kya tune kahi, another game show hosted by Divya Seth (can anybody recall the name for this?), and i think the kabhi idhar kabhi udhar aired on it as well.. They all were cracking serials and oozed quality. They found the balance by airing the Chinese dubbed serials for the kids at about 5pm and other time slots had the shows for grown ups.

Of all the channels, i miss Home Tv the most. Was indeed a bad incident when that channel went down.

@Spacescreamer - I was not much into TV till Cartoon Network came along but prior to that I used to watch Zee TV when we got cable I used to love shows like Saap Seedi, Ek Minute etc.,. On Home TV I remember Danger Mouse and Duckula. I think I remember a bit of the first episode of Kabhi Idhar Kabhi Udhar - A family moves to a new house and it was a comedy show based on it. I might be wrong but I think this was the show, right?

I have an idea for a TV channel which I had stated in a different thread. Doordarshan should launch a channel with their old shows called DD Retro. They can show few ads which will help them recover the costs which I hope won't be much considering they own the shows.

@prabs

Zee Tv no doubt had an awesome bouquet of serials. Stuff like Ek minute, n Saanp Seedhi with Fantastic hosts had everybody glued to the seats! They balanced it with Campus, Commander, Avishkar, Aisa bhi hota hai, Philips Top10 and many more. Later on they would bring on Mr Pankaj Kapoor's ultimate show - Mohandas BALLB. (still waiting for a DVD release for that show..)
Even Boley Taarey and Zee16 would look classy back then! So yes, your penchant for Zee Tv would be very much understandable :)
But you did missed some real gems from Home Tv.

DD Retro is a seriously good idea. Send it to those lazy bums.. Sitting on a gold mine and yet not willing to sell their warez.

Btw, Kabhi idhar kabhi udhar was about a guy who had 2 wives and had to shuttle between his two houses. :p

@Spacescreamer - Hmmm then what was the show called that I am thinking of? I am 100% sure it was on Home TV.

I don't think anyone who runs a channel will take the idea of DD Retro seriously not even DD themselves for some odd reason or the other.

I really feel sad for the type of entertainment that is created today be it TV shows, Movies, Video games etc., No one wants to take risks. Everything is generic and fake.

Those who do take risks are simply lambasted especially if they don't succeed.

@prabs

The odd reason that you mention.. I think i found something relevant.

There was this serial on DD which appeared later on Zee Tv as well: Aisa bhi hota hai.
It was very good and was hugely popular. Everything was good about it. The host was animated and added to the value of the serial as well.. All in all a very good serial. Then it got discontinued for no reason. I found a youtube episode of it here: lqQUWmivtxI
The person associated with the company holding the copyrights mentions about DD's high level of corruption and bureaucracy as the reason for non renewal of the serial and goes onto claim that these days the serials are made to grab ads and earn revenues only.

Now ever since the Hollywood movies and other serials from US of A or similar has hit Indian television/internet.. The competition has gone through the roof for Indian industry. And apparently, instead of trying to match the content, they have started to target the 'desi' crowd with all the useless drama and teary story lines to keep em glued.

Read the comments on that youtube links.. Does gives one a peek into the sad situation the good content producers have to wade through.

@Spacescreamer - To some extent that is my point. The entire charade of TRPs and revenue via ads has killed good television. I am not sure about the corruption bit unless he means that the funds meant for creating educational shows or shows in general are usurped by people in the industry.

I run into a few idiots who watch horrible movies that come out now a days and say I should leave my brain at home and watch the movie as it is meant for timepass. I wonder whose house do they leave their brains in to watch television in their own home. These guys are equally responsible.

People create crap because people consume crap. Stop consuming it and creators will have to clean up their act.

A few months back I started watching old Doordarshan shows and I found a lot of shows that are evergreen. A prime example is an episode from 'Waghle Ki Duniya' where they hire a servant and show the troubles before they hire one and while they have a servant employed. A very simple episode and people today can still relate to it. What they show is haunting reality in a very light hearted manner. There are tons of shows like this.

Sadly we are forced to watch Kapil's tasteless acts and Archana's molar teeth.

Quite true.

Sad thing is that people like Mr Mathur suffer the most.
These guys live for and off the good shows, and when they are hit.. it takes down maybe a few more aspiring producers/writers with them who cite their example. As it is, we do not have a culture to promote/support people who do their bit for the country.. be it sports , social cause or good media content.. The last two have a huge role in building the nation.

I wrote to the fellow from Spotfilms to start a facebook page and see if there is scope for reintroduction of his serial. Dunno how many viewers can come together and get a concerted effort for something similar. Ranting and feeling nostalgic is not the choice we should opt for.

@MAGNeT
Thanks a ton buddy. You did solved a long standing query of mine. The show was brilliant and the exuberance with which that show was presented was very refreshing.
Roshan Abbas is a hugely talented fellow. Came to my school for judging a skit competition, while i sat questioning his presence as a judge, but all that melted when he gave a lil gem of a show of his own while we waited for the results.. Fantastic mimicry artist and performer.

It was good channel but they re-branded it after 2 years as SAB TV
Sorry but can you give some link to verify your comment.I was a hardcore follower of such great masterpieces those days.
Nor wiki nor any link confirms me the same.

As far as SAB goes ,it stands for ShriAadhikariBrothers and that channel was started as it own with its own gem like OFFICE OFFICE ,Love mein kabhi kabhi,Say na Something to Anupam Uncle and JAB KHELO SAB KHELO.Later they sold it to Sony.
I doubt it was Home Tv earlier.
One more interesting thing is for all channels we get some videos online. But for HOME TV not even a single wiki entry exists. The video i found on youtube is of those program which was dubbed which is easy to find in other language.
I see an enterprenuer opportunity if someone comes up with channel or video site of all this gem but surely copyright issue might be the toughest challenge for the person.

In my Videocon D2H i have these channels like Dangal, BIG Magic, no idea if anyone even watches them.
Problem is they are right in the beginning in the sequence after the usual star plus, zee etc.
