Programs you watch on Indian Television

Well I have made some progress at home. I have talked my folks at home to watch some of the old shows. We did watch a few episodes of 'Flop Show'.

The problem is they find the set top box much easier to use than my WD Live. A keyboard works on it but they don't want the hassle.

Will try and watch a bit of 'Ye jo hai zindagi' tomorrow a show that my mother recommended. I and my father were so into Jaspal Bhatti that we didn't want to switch.

It is good mainly due to Satish Kaushik.
Saw it last year and SK was the only actor who seemed to have put in the type of performance which can carry a show.

Its Satish Shah .Also Rakesh Bedi and Safi Inamdar were good. Also not all episodes were epic..Some 10-12 were super and rest were super duper bore.Though new generation wont ike it much because those were the days when there was no net and for everything one needs to dependent on landline3and postman and new people cant easy relate to it easily.

On sahara one program was really hillarious Subh mangal savadhan .Thank god its on youtube.
Check it out..Its a humorous show

I liked the character of andy in it .

I vividly remember watching a show called "Yeh shaadi nahi ho sakti", don't fully remember the context of that show but there was some rich aged guy and something related to marriage of her daughter.

Then on sony one show came where Jatin Kanakia acted and he had 3 sons and daughter in laws in the show, that was also good.

Then i guess no one forgets Shrimaan shrimati, dilbura uncle :P

Who can forget Keku and Koki and Dilbura Uncle and Doll. :D
That was so funny.

One of the only shows i can confidently say has been awesome comedy in last 10 years or so is Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. I can probably re-watch it as many a times. Wonderful comedy show and perfect characters.

Btw currently i do not like the take over by all south indian to hindi dubbed movies which come on almost all channels today. And they keep repeating a lot.

"Bh se Bhade" is nice serial if some one likes comedy. Just saw it first time yesterday when surfing channels. I think it telecasts only in weekends on Zee.

Nothing against South Indians but it seems like an epidemic. It is no longer limited to movies being dubbed in Hindi and shown across channels. Bollywood movies are infected by it too.

Considering their popularity I must be stupid because I can't understand why?

Satish Shah
Yep. Sorry bout the goof up.. Was recalling Jane Bhi do yaaron to a friend while i typed that reply.

Dilruba :)

Bollywood movies are infected by it too.

Maybe the 'success' of the over the top action (if you can call that) made the phattu actors indulge in similar movies.
Dabang was spoilt majorly and never bothered to watch any of those remakes.
Strange thing is, now i cannot mock at the movies of 60s-70s in front of the previous generation with as much vigor. Rather i find myself watching the silly old movies than the crass ones we get these days.

No it i DILBURA only, actual name for Rakesh Bedi was Dilruba but that kid used to always call him Dilbura Uncle :p

Yes thats why I called him Dilbura, as the little kid, Chintu, used to call him Dilbura uncle. :D

Also keshav's (jatin kanakia) boss used to address Keku as Bhikmange keshav :D[DOUBLEPOST=1388920121][/DOUBLEPOST]Also not to forget are the detective series of old times.
Karamchand, Tehkikat, Suraag and My Personal Favorite Byomkesh Bakshi.

.

Right, it was one of the best indian comedies in terms of script & acting. Too bad the creators of the serial decided to abandon it very early to make crap like baa, bahu, baby

You mean the movies where a punch sounds like 'dhishoom' and the guys go flying even before the punch connects. That is still better than the current nonsense.

Jaspal Bhatti makes similar shows with different names - Flop Show, Oolta Poolta and Full Tension. Education episode in Full Tension is a must watch.

Bhatti was a genius. Satire was never served the way he did. Was a big loss his death.
Nobody actually says that Flop Show had only 10 episodes. Every single one was a treat and pure bliss. Compare those to the stuff we see being aired these days.. Endless labyrinth of pure muck.

I keep hearing about Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai being good. Seems like i have to give it a shot soon.
Maybe sooner than planned cuz i am sure i ll get some stares if i mention i never gave it a try (thx to horrendous mannerism of Rosesh)

this thread has turned more meaningful since the last few pages (thanks to @Spacescreamer, @MAGNeT, and others!)! :D

shubh mangal saavadhaan - yes! a brilliant show. i think i saw sumit raaghavan for the first time in that show itself and realised his brilliant versatility (singer, dubbing artist, actor, slapstick comedian). andy and our jetha bhai were brilliant too!

since my memory-horse is trying to gallop backwards, a few other shows from the past:

- chamatkaar - late faarooque shaikh and 'makodi'!

- tahqeeqaat, mentioned earlier (sam d'silva and gopi)

- fateechar (pankaj kapoor)

- rin ek do teen - aau maau chaau. decent, and sometimes good.

- one show which had parodies of old movies. forgot its name; like 'chholay' for 'sholay' (gabbar singh & gang coming on tricycles and looting thaakur saahab's chholay dishes), 'mera gown mera dress' for 'mera gaon mera des', etc.

- a wildlife show on zee tv hosted by a brilliant, beamy lady (forgot name; had the loud cry of a peacock at the show's beginning).

- aghori (much later; banned, but nevertheless, came to know the background of the series through the anecdote of the writer published in a newspaper).

and that dilbura kid (anil naagrath) now appears as a cid officer on sony! -_-

LOL at 'bhikhmange keshav!'. :D
invariably brought a large smile to my face as soon as i read the term and recalled his voice, tone & mannerism of speaking it. late shree shayl chaturvedi - superb actor (in that series particularly) & poet!
