Rautu Ka Raaz - 5/10
A slow burning murder mystery. Watched it for Nawazuddin Siddique but it isn't one of his best performances. I don't think he is quite finding the good scripts these days. Rest of the cast is not noteworthy. The ending twist I felt was flawed.

Kalki 2898 AD - 6/10 - The one thing that makes you sit through this movie is the visual effects. The VFX/SFX of this movie is top notch and best as far as an Indian made movie is concerned. Could not find any flaws in the visual effects. Watched it in 3D but 2D should be good as there is no effect in 3D and the movie is 3 hours long.
Coming to the the story/screenplay of the movie, if you could sit through the first half then the second half of the movie is good. The first half just drags and drags and you just lose your patience. Amitabh does his part well and there are few cameo roles from well known artists including Kamal Haasan (that makeup was extremely good) who is in couple of scenes and his act is extraordinary. The movie can be watched for the visual effects and hope the part two of this movie is much more interesting than the first one.

Boring first half, déjà vu fight scenes in first half. They dragged it too much.The only interesting scenes from the movie are those connected to our mythology. Some have goosebump effect. Amazing VFX. Would have been so much better if the movie was 30 minutes shorter.
First half : Character build up did not work well. Amitabh absolutely dominated everyone else with his presence. Though he is shown as 8 foot ancient being, his screen presence cannot be matched.
Second half : Much better as the story starts to move with better pace. VFX is done really really well yet you will see instances where it is unreal. Fights between two key characters are mind-blowing.

The fact that they did all the special effects and achieved such visuals even before 1970s without any cgi, is great; but story-wise it didn't feel any good at all. It's even boring as hell.
Overall, yes a visual wonder for sure.

HAL 9000 fascinated audiences at that time. A machine going sentient or so aligned to the mission program.

Whoever sat through the entire movie, must have felt that. I wonder how many sat for more than an hour.
But I'm sure they must have felt awesome seeing those visuals. In our era, anythg can be done in cgi, but in those days with such visuals is insane.
Besides that, the production design is wow. The hall where russian scientists meet, the lighting, even those chairs they used in the movie, they look so unique and appealing.
Visually it is brilliant. The shots on earth shots are also beautiful. But beyond that it is unnecessarily slow.
Not the best narration, but I loved the novel. Don't think that has aged. Never liked the changes made in the movie.

Overall pacing of the film was brilliant. However, the film throws countless information at you during the first 15 minutes, which can sometimes be difficult to digest, as I had to see numerous opening scenes multiple times to understand what was going on. I guess that's what you get when you have Aaron Sorkin in-charge of screenplay, a feat that he again reproduced with 'The Social Network', which also had multiple scenes that needed to be seen more than one time for understanding.
And the supporting cast of Kevin Bacon, Kevin Pollak, and Demi Moore, further enhanced the on-screen presence of Cruise. I'd say Tom only bested Jack in the climax, otherwise you'd pretty much want to see this movie for the shining man's performance.
Rating it 9.5/10
Edit: Fun Fact // In one of the scenes of this movie Tom Cruise questions Cuba Gooding Jr. Well, little did they know that they will making a film in 1996, named 'Jerry Maguire', that will earn Cuba his first Oscar as a supporting actor. Show me the money!

Maharaja (2024) - 9/10
One of the best movies I have watched lately. The plot, the way it careens through the twists and turns and finally explodes with the final revelation was bloody brilliant. Vijay Sethupathi & Anurag Kashyap were outstanding in their roles. Strongly recommended movie for anyone who loves a solid action thriller.
