bah! I replaced my 320 (.10) and 500gb (.11) drives in the hopes of getting a larger capacity drives but sadly i got the same capacity both times. but yes, got faster drives. both 1 platter .12 :).

That 500 .11 u rmaed was in lieu of a 320 .10 i rmaed for you just some months back. :P

Now .12 single platter in lieu of the .11- not bad. :D

My 120 GB 2.5 freeagent go just died 1 month back, dint have the time to rma it for 2 weeks, but finally went and gave it to the service center last week. Guess what i got a spanking new 500 GB drive for free! Now thats what you call awesomeness. I was pretty shocked at getting the 500 GB drive, i confirmed with them 3-4 times whether this is my drive

Congos. :D

after reading every1s post. i understud that only SEAGATE got this kind of RMA. means if u will give smaller capacity HDD they will give u same or bigger cap. HDD. 65% ppl got bigger and better HDD. but WD never gives BIG capacity HDD in replacement...

so that means....

SEAGATE ROCKS :hap2:

I maybe wrong about this, but there is a thread about Seagate RMA's. Also from the amount of posts regarding Seagate HDD's and their problems seems to say somethign about Seagte Quality.

Never seen so many issues with WD/Hitachi.

I have a 500 GB dying dead from ages. Haven't given it for replacement as it has the famous firmware error. I would be happy if they could make this one alive with my data instead of a 1TB :(

dream on!!!!!!!!! :bleh:

also Waseem though it seems from this thread that 65% get better drives but that is not the actual case.....In reality that percentage is pretty less......

^ Thats b/c Seagate holds the majority of the HDD market in India.

Last week, i rmaed my 500 gb (.11), got 500gb (.12), nothing awesome in that but i got it within 3 hours, Now thats awesome.

Every hardware fails, HDD's more often than many other things inside the computer....Except for the 500GB .11 problems, my calculated guess is that the percentage of failure for both seagate and WDD would be approximately the same.....

Hey, What does this mean? - NFF Pass When I checked the status of my RMA online, thats what I get

DefectiveItemstatus- Ready For Delivery - NFF Pass

Anyone know?

Tks!

@ OP: Did you check the warranty period on the barcode from the seagate's site and see if it has 3 years warranty or 5 years warranty?

WD also gives higher capacity drives.
People have got 750GB in lieu of 500/640 iirc.

With the no. of issues Seagate has had in recent times and the reducing of warranty to 3 yrs now (not a very confidence-inspiring move from them imho), i think it will take some time before i opt for a Seagate over a WD. :)
WD's lower price, not-as-noisiness, 5 yrs warranty and mainly pickup and drop for rma is a big bonus for people busy with their lives to take time off to rma their drives, if one chooses to overlook the pain of the loss of data.

With WD, one doesn't have to move a muscle for RMA (not even a phone call to the WD call center or the courier company).

Just register for RMA, within two days courier guy comes for pickup.

Within the next week or so you get a drive delivered to your doorstep.

Really amazing service!

And yeah, i got a 750GB for my damaged 500GB & at that time 750GB costed ard 9.5k.

So, WD also rocks!

not true.
IMO wd is even better.
you just give a phone call and give the serial number.. the courier ppl come and take ur hdd and deliver it back within 1 week at no cost.
also, out of 3 times ive replaced got lucky only once, got a 320 instead of a 160..
and the 500Gb i replaced, the replacement drive was a faster one..

Lol.. isint that good enough? :P
