Suggest phone for 30k

Hey Guys,

I am plannin on getting a phone but not sure what to get.

i don't want the iphone as I have used it for quite sometime and need a change now

Can you guys suggest me some phones which I can get from here in Melbourne?

  • Preferable touchscreen
  • 3G enabled

I can increase the budget if I can get something better.... max budget is 40k

So guys, give me some advices.... Free stuff when i come to India for ppl in Blore:D

the iphone 4 is not available in Singapore and HK at all so forget getting from there .. its unbelievably expensive in the grey market there .. online its a one month waiting period ... if ur getting a 32gb at 42.5 factory unlocked its a very nice deal as that's cost price in the UK .. if 42.5 is for 16gb then its very expensive .

The galaxy S is an awesome phone. You can have a look.

The statements made by other posters that other phones except iphone are a waste of money, are debatable to say the least.

42.5 is the perfect price to buy the 32gb iphone 4 at ... u cant get it cheaper than that as that is cost price .... whichever country has it cheaper than that, its not available there .

u can hate apple for making such an expensive phone and a closed os .. but the iphone 4 is one hell of a phone .. at this point in time it is definately the best phone ... use a galaxy s and an iphone 4 and see the difference in speed for ur self.. u can say that the 3gs is a rubbish phone when compared t the nexus or galaxy ....but the 4th gen iphone rocks .. (and i really used to hate iphones till i used the 4g .)

browsing, gaming , camera, speed , battery life and form factor all are up to the mark on the 4th gen iphone ...no phone in the market matches it today .. and the call quality is also fantastic if u use a case .(which u will def use as its made of glass ..)

go to any store and compare any phone with the iphone and see the diff for ur self

in the future u may get better phones but this phone is unbeatable at this point .

Doesn't Iphone4 and galaxy s have same procci and graphics chip ? And galaxy s have better screen than lg made retina display ? What about reception issues of apple ? So what makes it better than all phones available in market ?

its not the hardware the software that makes it diff as well . the galaxy s lags if uve used it . uve got to flash it to make it work and yet the battery life is not upto the mark .. and everybody talks of reception issues .. just to make it clear one final time .. there r no reception issues in the iphone 4 if u use a case ... if u dont use a case u will face reception issues as ur hand will touch the antenna . i have used the phone for 2 days and it has brilliant call quality and reception .

+ the apps , game centre , browser speed , camera quality , hdr pics , battery life during videoplayback , music quality and form factor all make it an awesome xperience ... the galaxys s is a nice phone but lacks even a simple flash for the cam and decent apps and games .the superamoled is good but the high res retina display is much better for me .. letters are more clearer when u browse and read .

as i said the iphone 3gs was a rubbish phone but the 4g is awesome .

UI fluidity: iphone 4

UI features: SGS

display: SGS (yes, it beats iphone 4's retina display hands out and the extra 4" gives awesome viewing experience be it text or videos or browing)

camera: iphone 4

audio and video: SGS

build quality: iphone 4

messaging and email: SGS

input: SGS

gaming: iphone 4

price: SGS (26k compared to hefty 42k for iphone 4)

The only problem that SGS had was with firmware lag, which is fixed in latest build and Froyo makes it even more snappier. Overall, among iphone 4 and SGS, I would pick SGS. And I save around 16k for which I can get a superb point-and-shoot camera.

I would also like to add a few more points:

Homescreens and Widgets : SGS/Android
Awesome notification system : SGS/Android
Camera : iPhone4 (both have 5 MP HD video, SGS doesnt have flash, picture quality is subjective but iphone4's is a bit better
Storage : SGS (16 Gb + 32 Gb)
Data Integration: SGS (at this time my SGS contacts are automatically being pulled from Facebook and Gmail, photos and birthdays are automatically added to contacts/calendar)

Audio : iPhone 4 (subjective, 'way better' is again a hyperbole, iPhone 4's is a bit better than SGS, but SGS is also very good)
Video : SGS (no contest, just plug it in mass storage mode, copy whatever you want, xvid, divx, avi , mp4, mkv in HD resolutions and it will play everything without conversion. easy)
Video Display: SGS (seriously, videos look gorgeous on the AMOLED display, stunning colors, contrast and brightness. Samsung Wave's display is even better)

Plus you are saving 16k and you get warranty, not a grey market/imported device

@rajshah.. we are talking about the iphone4, I cant get it anywhere @33k

khanvis - See the iphone is quite good and maybe the OP should go in for iPhone4 only, you can praise it all you want but please dont deride our devices with your words like "waste of money" etc.
I have just compared the features without giving a judgement. Let the OP decide

Well I think it's all because iPhone 4 is the phone to have right now.

The phones are there which are good and in some ways better than iPhone but I think there is a reason they call every other phone an iPhone killer and not galaxy killer or droid killer.

I've had an iPhone since November and frankly I've never wanted another phone after the purchase, until iPhone 4 came out that is.

Ive seen and used android phones, even ones with froyo, but even though I have an inferior 3GS by features I never wanted to move away from it.

And for a guy who always likes to upgrade big whenever he does, I'm still going for iPhone 4 and not android, which is in many ways not different from 3GS OS wise. I think that should counts for something I hope.

People say android is gaining on iOS, well of course it is, you have any idea how many phones run android, a 100 atleast I think. iOS is just carried by 4 phones which have a very big share. So you decide what is better and what is successful.

Yes there is maemo and win mo 7 but they still have to prove themselves. Choosing anything besides iOS and android would be beyond stupidity for this budget.

And in no way am I saying that sgs is bad. It's a very good phone but it lacks the x factor or the spark that us mere mortals look for in everything.

But all this is just my opinion.

Yep have used Iphone 4 and a few android phones running froyo. For a phone that costs around 42 grand, i would hope for proper multitasking support, no cutting corners here. Considering this, android looks far better.

the overall experience of owning an iphone is better than any other phone . the 6 axis gyro meter is brilliant to play games on .. the app store is why the iphone rocks .. u never really get bored with the iphone cause there are new apps coming out every day .. the android os app market is also moving fast but i find the quality of apps in ios much better .. take for eg facebook .. the facebook app is the best on an iphone .

u can pull ur contacts on the iphone too . + facetime is on hell of a simple feature to use .. i am not saying that android is bad but android needs some more work ... one year down the line android may be better than ios but at this point in the mobile phone market , ios rocks .. ... paying 28k and not having a flash in the camera is a deal breaker .. big time deal breaker ..!

+ i find the sgs a bit big to use . the Op has a budget of 40k so money is not an issue . for me ,if ur spending anything above 30k u might as well get an iphone and be done with buying any phones for a year at least .

^Let us not get into the details on each phone and confuse the OP further. The iPhone has its pros and cons and so does the SGS. I suggest him to pay a visit to the Apple store and see the iPhone 4 in person and decide. One may not be willing to shell out about 40k for a phone but given that you have the budget, it is certainly worth considering the iPhone 4. :)

Exactly and had it been me and if I'd have had that budget, I'd certainly pick up an iPhone 4. Oh well, that's just me though. :P

what is the need for a facebook app when it is integrated into the contacts. most of the things that need 3rd party app support in iOS are integrated into the OS for android.

facetime works only on wi-fi. you can use SGS's front camera with fring skype etc on 3G network. Not to forget the extremely inferior notification system and app integration in iOS when compared to Android. And please, you should see how well SGS takes night shots and low light videos before terming is as deal breaker.

what makes you think that any non-apple device means changing the phone every year? Like I said, why not save 14k-16k and invest in something else than buying something that looks fancy outside and has inferior hardware inside? Hell, I can buy Legend for 22k and ipod touch 4G for 20k and get far better experiene than owning iphone 4. Or I can get SGS or Desire and a PaS camera or save that money and get a tablet later.

When a 35k price tag itself is overprice, why spend 42k something on a phone that lacks support in India?

use the iphone 4 for a month and come back to this discussion again .. i am sure ull understand what i am talking about .. ive used the galaxy and legend and almost every single android phone out there so thats y i am praising the iphone 4 .

as i have suggested goto a store, play with the iphone 4 and the sgs for at least an hour . download apps and then decide for urself which phone is superior .

buy samsung galaxy for 28k and sell it the next month .. u get 22-23 max .

buy iphone 4 for 42k and sell it the next month u get 46-48k

not that u would sell it off but there is a reason for that

if u download apps and make full use of the app store only then u realize that the iphone is worth it .

if u dont use the app store then its a useless phone and sgs wins .
