The Tata Group, through its flagship IT services firm Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is said to embark on a new venture to enhance mobile connectivity across the country. Tata group is extremely reliable can say from my personal experience.
More players in field of telecom are needed., and none better than reliable tata.
I remember how great tatas cdma services were in delhi, pity that they couldn't make it profitable back then

Initially it was Rs.40,000/- crore, rounding same news since last 2 years in media/news papers. But we know BSNL is govt. company and 99% Govt. Employee interested in Salary & Pension and Union to press Govt. for higher salary, DA, HRA, Old Pension but not for good service.

The BSNL pricing model is what TRAI needs to enforce. By "model", I mean to imply that there must be plans for consumers across the spectrum.

Segment - I: Currently, BSNL's cheapest annual plan is is just under 1000 INR if we factor in mobile data. The one above that is 1198 which offers 3 GB data, 200 min talk time and 100 free SMS per month.

That 1198 plan is the perfect middle ground for many people who have free Wi-Fi at work.

Segment - II: Those who have Wifi at home and work can pay just for the talktime and maybe some data voucher when and if they please. If you pay just for the talktime, the cost is like 600-650 per year.

Segment - III: And those who need 2GB per day can obviously pay 2399 for 395 days of validity and 790 GB of data in that period.

The problem with Jio/Airtel/Vi is that they are forcing that "Segment -III" upon every mobile user. Monthly/quarterly payment takes the price beyond what you pay annually while actually reducing the benefits in some cases, ultimately forcing everybody to pay annually.

With all the investment BSNL make from here onward, the intent to hike the prices can't be ruled out. But that's thinking too far. With the kind of network coverage they currently provide, they aren't exactly onboarding many subscribers.

Not to mention, I have not even factored in the population below poverty line who can't afford to pay any of the above.

The thing is govt. want taxes, on higher bills govt. gets higher taxes. Controlled inflation is hideously liked by govts. to show that they are performing good. Companies get to show they are growing ! A part of how business-politico nexus works scratching each other's back.
So, don't expect even bsnl to do good in the long, they will be scuttled in one way or other, their investments costs monies...

Forget 4G, 3G or even 2G internet is a distant dream. In my locality, there is no signal once you enter rooms/shops/malls etc. That means no incoming/outgoing or SMS even. Forget mobile data. Even in rooftops, with all bars filled up, you're not gonna get any internet most of the time. Calling will be great when you're on the streets or in a wide open area/rooftop.

Even if BSNL strengthens its 3G network, it's worth paying for. That being said, I am kinda surprised to see so many BSNL 4G towers in north and south India. Hopefully in a year or so, we have usable BSNL coverage. It's gonna be a big mess otherwise.
 
TATA was failed with Docomo and still just manage to work TTML properly, I don't have much hope but still make my mind not to loose hope ....

I'm an ex-Docomo user and can proudly say its 3G was always faster than 4G of VI and Airtel. Docomo users felt very bad when it went to the hands of Airtel when Tata could have possibly tried to do a 4G but seems spectrum license was a challenge yet Tata could have done it IF they ever wanted to but they just ignored it.

Bsnl working good for me at least wherever its still ALIVE but unfortunately, now even the remotest tribal area has been captured by Jio and villagers are forced to mnp their Bsnls to Jio. A very bad phase for the indian telecom where pvt. wins over govt. and shamelessly govt. allows pvt. partners to overpower them.

"Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), India's state-owned telecommunications company, has announced the successful deployment of 10,000 4G sites across the nation as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative. The Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative aims to make India self-reliant in critical sectors, including telecommunications."

2. BSNL Achieves 1000 4G Sites Milestone Under Saturation Project

"For the unaware, the central government announced the 4G saturation project to cover uncovered villages (a total of 24,680 villages) at the cost of Rs 26,316 crore. The aim was to deliver high-speed connectivity to users living in backward areas.

Tried to open speedtest.net using BSNL but failed where as Jio managed to give speed of 2.16mbps. Closed them both and back to my 400mbps fiber connection :D
 
Fiber optic internet connections are always going to be better than wireless connections. They provide a more stable connection and faster speeds.
