We are basically seeing a new dimension to Indian Politics. Something we are not used to. Utterly confusing and baffling. LOL.

Aam Naxal. LOL.

While I have some serious problems with the method adopted by Kejriwal, I must say that Delhi Police is arguably the most corrupt, brutal and venal police force in the democratic world. Politicians have used it to further their own ends but they have only been too ready to be used and enjoy the collateral benefits and perks. I was for one most distressed to find Radhey Shyam Gupta and Maxwell Perera on the channels last night representing the police point of view. They represent everything that is rotten about policing not only in Delhi but in the civilized world. A few reminders here! Delhi Police locked up a man on a murder charge and had him incarcerated for months in Tihar. The supposed deceased turned up alive. The then Police Commissioner Radhey Shyam Gupta refused to resign which would have been a sine qua non in any accountable democracy. Detaining a person without res gestae is unquestionably the most heinous crime by any police. It was Gupta again who,if Wikipedia is to be believed, supported ACP Tyagi as a 'model police officer'.Tyagi was sentenced to death for custodial death-the first gazetted police officer in India to be penalized in this manner. Moving on to Perera, while his arrogant high handedness was there for everyone to see, he exceeded every threshold when Madhu Kishwar went to his office and complained about police extortion of street vendors. He justified that and called the street vendors 'vermins'. Later on post retirement ,it was Perera who after 16th December rape had the temerity to state that Neeraj Kumar the then Police Commisioner was not accountable in any way as he had not raped the girl. It is a sin that these people are drawing plum pensions. It is even a bigger sin that they are being cultivated and given platforms by the news channels. I am on record having said that the only way Delhi can get an effective, accountable and credible policing is by disbanding the current police force altogether and reconstitute a new police force which would not carry with the rotten and stenchful legacy bequeathed by the likes of PS Bhinder, RS Gupta and Maxwell Perera! And my preferred definition of an anarchist has its roots in the Kantian doctrines. It is: a person who seeks to overturn by violence all constituted forms and institutions of society and government, with no purpose of establishing any other system of order in the place of that destroyed. On that parameter alone Arvind Kejriwal is not an anarchist. No one has yet accused him of not wanting to establish an alternate system of order. I have a feeling that he is not fully acquainted with the term and its implications both historical and contemporary. The father of anarchism viz Proudhon had declared that 'Property is poison.' I doubt whether Kejriwal would agree to that. I also have a feeling that he would have no truck with the aims and methods of the other anarchist icon viz Mikhail Bakunin. It was certainly unwise on his part to accede to the proposition that he subscribed to anarchy even if it was an act of exasperated levity as Yogendra Yadav suggested. I am reminded of the very famous anecdote of a certain bishop who had just arrived in Rome. A reporter asked him his thoughts on the nightclubs in Rome. He responded -"Are there nightclubs in Rome!"The newspapers had a field day declaring that the bishop on arrival in Rome had asked whether there were nightclubs in the city. Kejriwal should have known. The problem is that the word has been used loosely without any party delving deeper. I can think of a few anarchists in Indian politics whose anarchism dates back to the Emergency days. It was Kamal Nath who vowed to disrupt the Shah Commission in 1978 . Jayaprakash Narayan was described as an anarchist disgrace by a politician who holds a very exalted position today. The lesson here is that politicians should refrain from using terms they are not totally familiar with. As far as Kejriwal's methods go and Bharti's language, I have major concerns and even a sense of outrage! Nothing new to Indopolity where a speechwriter for inarticulate leaders (Aiyar) is made an MP and deigns to address a widowed lady as a 'gangster's moll'! But the USP of AAP was supposed to be that it is fundamentally different! Is it!

This is aam admi party thread but just couldn't waste precious bandwidth on this hilarity. (and aap did form a coalition government with this party too). RG was called for an interview yesterday on TimesNow with Arnab Goswamy. The interview was some thing of a marvel. Here's a pick:
Arnab: Are you avoiding a direct face-off with Narendra Modi? Is there a fear of loss Rahul because this election is not looking good for the Congress party from overall estimates? And the growing belief is that if Rahul Gandhi has not picked up the challenge officially that means that there is a fear of loss, he is avoiding a direct one on one battle with Narendra Modi, you must answer that?

Rahul: To understand that question you have to understand a little bit about who Rahul Gandhi is and what Rahul Gandhi's circumstances have been and if you delve into that you will get an answer to the question of what Rahul Gandhi is scared off and what he is not scared off. The real question is what I am doing sitting here, you are a journalist, when you were small you must have said to yourself I want to do something, you decided to become a journalist at some point, why did you do that?

Arnab: You are asking me the question

Rahul: Yes, I am asking you a question, it is a conversation

Arnab: Because I like and enjoy being a journalist, it is a professional challenge for me. My question is you avoiding a direct face-off with Mr. Narendra Modi?

Rahul: I am going to answer the question but I just want to ask you, when you were young and thought of being a journalist what drove you?

Arnab: Once I decided to become a journalist, I can't be half a journalist. Once you have decided to get into politics and you are leading your party effectively, you can't be leading your party by half, so I’ll throw the question, with respect, back to you, Narendra Modi is challenging you on a daily basis?

Rahul: You are not answering my question, but I will answer the question and that will give you some insight into how Rahul Gandhi thinks. For that I will have to expand a little bit about my growing up, how I grew up and the circumstances in which I grew up. What I saw when I was a child ,was my father, who was a pilot, and because of circumstances was thrown into the political system and all I saw when was small after my grandmother died was my father in constant-constant combat with the system in India and then I saw him die actually.

You can read the complete joke here: http://www.rediff.com/news/report/f...m-against-the-concept-of-dynasty/20140127.htm

^ God this interview was the most vomit-inducing thing I have seen in recent days.

RG was sitting spewing bile and Arnab was looking fawningly at him letting him take all the time in the world to do that.
Did anyone notice the funny camera angles and the lighting? It was if they are shooting a biography or something.

Really disappointed with Arnab and this just shows how weak our media is and is very much under the politicians

Shivsena is always pulling such stunts to take attention away from important issues. I bet these party members are also first to judge a woman's character based on her clothes.
And beating / breaking is much easier than thinking. Who wants to think if our great leaders are right or wrong? If they are saying our great Indian culture is in danger, then it must be true.

We want to prevent adoption of foreign traditions... while wearing tie and blazer...

Hotelon mein nange dance... kaunse hotel mein chachaji, aur aap ko kaise pata uske baare mein

I thought he might even say bachpan mein mere haath par likh diya gaya tha "mera baap chor hain". Then you would understand what RG is scared off. :hilarious:

That said Arnab was looking fawningly -- he was being gentle with the kid - god forbid Congress been on his ass. Though thing to note is - he did try his best - "Rahul, if I might draw you back", "Rahul, you are avoiding the question" etc to save RG, though for some it might come out as a case of true journalism - thats what I had thought when I first read about it, but watching the video took it to another level.

It was looking as if Manish Tiwari had put a figurative gun to Arnab's career and warned him thoroughly about each and every second of the interview

^^I am all for giving AAP a fair chance, but NOT at the national level. Let them prove themselves in Delhi first and they can gain my vote :)

I don't think they'll be able to form a government at the centre. It will be either UPA or NDA, or the dreaded third front. Maybe some new alliances will also emerge. The best case scenario for AAP is to get 20-40 seats and sit in the opposition.

It will be hard for the ruling party to just play "politics" without support from the opposition. The current leaders have misguided people that only the ruling party is corrupt, whereas the opposition has no say at all. Both are involved in scams as much as the other, it's just that one profits more, and the other is happy to take a cut.

I agree totally. I remember when Nitin Gadkari's dubious land acquisition deals were exposed by Kejriwal (he was dropped as party President shortly after), they had shown documents containing details of the industries owned by different parties in Maharashtra. I distinctly remember that out of the several factories mentioned, some were owned by Gadkari, rest by ministers of MNS, Congress, Shiv Sena etc. They all work hand-in-glove. It is why I primarily believe there was no incentive to solve the problem of drought in Maharashtra at that time. They used up all the water in that region for their industries (sugarcane etc) and the water did not go to the villages/farmers on the other side. Those people were on the mercy of a tanker, which showed up once a week or so. :(

But how many will actually realize this?

How much money BJP spends on PR
Both BJP and Congress spend a lot on PR. Did you see the ads by congress on TV, where the congress youth members swear their allegiance to Rahul G?It plays during prime time on almost all channels. Imagine the money that is given the channels. They also have another "jingle" which has sing/dances etc, the song apparently sung by Alka Yagnik!
