Does the semi-thether JB work with iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone 4 ? Or should i just wait for the untethered JB assuming its going to release in a few days.

I had installed semi tether and it seemed to work (i am on iOS 5). But for me the unlock did not work after the phone started in semitethered mode. I was getting NO SERVICE. It was only after i did the JUST BOOT using redsn0w, i got the signal back.

But i read a post by someone on modmyi (i think) that due to semitether his phone got bricked. I got scared and removed the semitether from my phone then.

What i suggest is that you install semi tether, open the app (very very important) and if you see "YOU ARE PROTECTED" and green color then you are good and semitether is probably working in background.
 
^ err mine is a factory unlock so need not worry about unlock , and by bricked do you mean the phone was like bricked forever :O ? Usually you can just restore it from DFU mode if anything goes wrong.

I guess I will just wait or use it tethered :|
 
Suggest a good expense tracking and listing app for iPhone.

But it would be good if it does not give just basic things like food, gas etc but additionally allows us to write some comments (for personal reference)

Also is there any good "Find My Car" app for the iPhone ?

I guess all such apps use GPS location to remember the car position. I need such an app.

Does google maps have such a default functionality ?

If you mean that I should mentally remember the place then that is what I have been doing but have many a times forgot in those very very large parking lot. Moreover next weekend I am going out of city and will be parking my car at an open parking lot near the airport. The app might come in handy at that time.

For the first one it has to be expenditure. Allows u to add monthly budget and then track expense , can be used with almost all currencies.

For second one headover to kickstarter---> Find My Car Smart by FMC Smart — Kickstarter
 
Trying expenditure now, the car app seems to be needing something else too. I have in the mean time downloaded another app called "Take me to my car" and another "find my car" and they seem to be good.

Btw i think there is a cydia tweak to get toggle widgets in notification bar, right ?

If yes then what tweak is that ?

Expenditure does not seem to have date wise transactions ?

Being offered an iPhone 4(Turbo SIM Unlocked) by a friend for 20k.In very good condition.Running iOS 4.3.5 but Cydia does not work.Any reasons for this? More importantly,is it a good deal?

Edit: Good news finally Untethered jailbreak for A5 devices finally achieved

I would personally not go for such a deal.
First it is Gevey SIM unlocked, which means you cannot update to iOS 5, since AFAIK gevey SIM does not work on iOS 5. But i may be wrong.
Moreover i have read that gevey SIM has issues like data not working or some or the other issue.
Cydia does not work is a bit of question, until we know why. But if cydia is not working then possibly the phone has not been jailbroken properly. May be he needs to do the JB again. Do you see a white cydia icon and it never launches ??

My vote is NO GO.
I suggest spend some more and get a used phone off TE from a fellow member. Mostly you will also get an unlocked device (read: peace of mind).

I have the iPhone 4 and software unlocked but am always scared to anything adventorous for the fear of losing the unlock. Better get a FU device.

Ok will do more search in the app.
As it is i was never going to use it for day to day expenses. For that i prefer writing in a diary.
This is just for an upcoming trip where i may need to enter expenses on the go.
 
^^I think you're right in saying that he hasn't JB his phone.Factory unlocked phone is way out of my budget.I got this question,which pops up everytime I hear about a locked iPhone 4...What is the difference between a software unlocked phone(Ultrasnow) and Gevey SIM unlocked phone?I mean can you not just remove the Gevey SIM and do a software unlock.Sorry,if I sound noobish.
 
Factory Unlocked : iPhone is not locked to any carrier u can use it like regular Nokia symbian phones i.e, pop in any sim and use it

Software Unlocked : Acheived by hacking the phone using a jailbreak app like ultrasn0w and others. Problem will arise when u want to update the phone as u have to rely on JB, baseband , updated ultrasnow to work with the update.

Gevey Sim Unlocked : Again depends on JB and not all iOS version support it , Apple had closed the bug which the sim was using in iOS update , problem arises when u want to update. There are lot of bugs like phone loosing connectivity , signal loss etc.

Software unlocked depends on baseband which is the firmware model where as Gevey doesnt. Lets say u are on 4.3.3 and baseband 4.10.01 it can be gevey sim unlocked only . You cannot remove gevey sim and try to unlock via software coz the baseband doesnt have the unlock.

Software unlocks are acheived by preserving baseband while upgradin. Trust me software unlocks are painfull and if something goes wrong the phone will just be a expensive iPod.
 
^^Thanks for taking pains to write such a detailed explanation.What do you suggest I do? Gevey unlocked seems a no go! How much can I expect a factory unlocked phone at the very least in the local market? I prefer to use the phone in person before buying,so not keen on member's market.
 
Look for a deal in our market section. I am sure u can get it for a decent price. If the seller is from ur city go check it out and pick it up OR check for used phones in grey market ask the shop keeper to update to latest iOS so that u can confirm it is not software unlocked or gevey sim unlocked. IIRC my friend had picked up a 16GB iPhone 4 for 25K. The condition of phone was really good. This was in Bangalore.
 
In terms of iPhone apps, can i download an app now and if i do not want to use it, just delete it but have it ensured that it is still under my itunes account so i can install it again for free later on ?

Currently there are offers of apps being free for a limited time period, so i plan to download them for now but delete it in case i plan to not use now (but want to use later)

Like the WhatsApp Messenger app is currently free, usually costs 99 cents i guess.
