You sure about renaming .zip to .IPSW ? Cos I read in a comment that I have to extract IPSW from zip ?

I cannot update to 5.0 for obvious reasons, hence 5.0.1 is only choice I have :(
 
Yup it restarts just fine. Just tried the same again to confirm.

"To recap, with a semi-tethered jailbreak, you can use your device for text messages, stock apps (except for Safari and Mail), camera, settings, etc. You wont be able to use any web browsing app which uses Safari, stock Mail app, Cydia, and any jailbreak apps that you have installed on your device. Yup. You have to rename it to ipsw. Ive been downloading from redmondpie, so confirm if the links are the same.

I downloaded using IDM, the file was in .zip. Just now I tried same with Chrome, it is ipsw :S

anyways I will rename it.

But how come iClarified & Redmond Pie's methods are little different ? iClarified's method is way too easy.

^yup, but also used for 5.0.1 too

First I tried updating my iPHone 5.0.1 and I am getting 3194 error. After downloading the file I clicked on Update button with shift button pressed, selected the IPSW.

What to do ?
 
What are the various offline GPS options for the iPhone 4 ??

I have found Sygic and CoPilot till now. Need for US and India as well. Both need not be in same app.
 
Some issue at server end do not worry its not gonna affect ur usage of the phone anyway.Just ignore the error and use cydia.
 
I have installed Installous on the iPhone 4 and i can browse apps from that too. But i have few .IPA files on my laptop. So now can i install those .IPA files on the iPhone and if yes then how ??
 
Ya obviously you can install .ipa files. But whats ur OS? U need to install appsync first from cydia. Then just sync from itunes.

Oh i mean i installed appsync on my iPhone and then after restarting the phone i installed installous too.

So now with the IPA files on my laptop and iTunes installed on laptop too, how do i proceed with installing the apps ?

Btw i am on iOS 5.

It was obtained ATT locked but now using it on Tmobile with iOS 5 and baseband as 1.59.00 (so no gevey SIM, unlocked with ultrasn0w).
 
Just another thing to add, the IPA files must be bought through your ID or must be JB'n.
If its bought through another ID they will not sync with your phone.

And some people think iTunes is stupid, it cant get more simpler than drag and drop :)

Something like that happened. I had installed 10-12 free apps through app store directly on the phone. Then when i connected the phone to laptop to sync, it told me that it cannot add those 12 apps to itunes (cannot show on itunes software). Something related to not being authorized etc etc.Then after i signed in, it let me add those in itunes library and also associated my laptop with my iTunes account. Seems only 5 PCs can be associated with a single itunes/apple id.

Suggest a good file manager iphone app to browse and copy paste files from one directory to another.

On similar lines, I have downloaded the cydia tweak to enable download of files through safari and yesterday using that i downloaded couple of songs. Now those have landed in some directory on the iphone. Is there anyway i can copy those songs to its appropriate directory so it can be included in my music library and i can then play the song through the music player ?
 
Can anyone tell me if there is any file explorer for the iPhone 4? I have installed the safari plugin to download files but it is stored at some location on the Phone and now I don't know how to access them directly on phone nor on laptop.
While saving the file the location was mentioned as something like this..

/var/mobile/library/downloads

How do access this location and copy the file to some other directory or anywhere else ?
