Guys, has anyone tried the new Nokia 5230 firmware latest update v20.0.005?

Ya i have .... phone has become faster and more responsive

Also all data was preserved even with the firmware upgrade and i did not have to restore any backups ....

Working fine for me ....

Has anyone faced the issue of music player/calendar/search widget on home screen being disappeared?

I have set my home screen on shortcuts bar. You can select which shortcuts you want on your home screen like shortcuts, search, calendar entries, music player and radio. Now earlier I could see all of these, but since a couple of days the music player and search shortcuts have disappeared. Even in settings, instead of having a choice of all 5 I can only see options for shortcuts, calendar, radio.

I googled and found out that many people have been facing the same problem, most people facing problem of calendar entries getting disappeared. Only solution is to hard reset, even after that the same problem reappears after some days.

I hope this is fixed ASAP. I don't care about the music player as I don't use it, but the search shortcut is really useful.

me too,i dont use the shortcuts home screen..but the contacts one

That too ocassionally disappears, but to get it back jus switch to another home screen and then to a prefered one..

that gets the job done..

Thanks for the review.
I too installed it and there is a pretty significant boost in responsiveness. Auto-rotate has particularly improved a lot, even more than the last firmware update. The haptic feedback has also changed, it feels somewhat more... natural now. Very impressed/happy. ^^

Two rather popular smartphones in the both ends of the market spectrum - the Nokia X6 and the Nokia 5230 have just got some serious software updates that bring along several new features besides the regular bug fixes.

Perhaps the biggest change in both devices is that kinetic scrolling has gone deeper down the interface and now you can enjoy it in grid menus - just as on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic after its latest update.

Furthermore, the Nokia X6 and Nokia 5230 will get the latest version of the touch web browser (ver. 7.2). Ovi Maps on those two will now get Lifecasting integration so you can share your locations with friends on Facebook.

Next up, the X6 and 5230 will also get Over-the-air software and app updating plus Flash video Phase 3 and the latest versions of Ovi Sync 2.0 and Ovi Music.

As usual the update is available through the Nokia Software Updater desktop application.

New software updates take Nokia X6 and 5230 up to speed - GSMArena.com news

Don't know whether its a new update or just late news :P Just posted it as the news was dated as April 30.

Great ... ..... Especially that data is preserved in firmware upgrade

Just got the Nokia 5233. Can someone tell me where I could get a decent Screen protector from in Kolkata and what would the price be like ? Do not want anything expensive but it should leave absolutely no residue behind because I like changing the screen guard every 6 months due to prsence of scratches.

Also can someone guide me to where I can get the certificate file for my phone I DO NOT want to hack it.

I am facing problems with 5230 and Nokia PC Suite. Once the USB cable (original CA-101) is connected, the PC hangs. Other USB devices work properly. BTW when I bought the phone, next day I had backed up and upgraded software using the suite and cable. As suggested in the Nokia support site, I have tried uninstalling, cleaning using their software and re installing. Still the problem persists.

just check the cable..mine too caused the same problem.

Mine was a cheapo rs 150 cable..it was working for few days..then just went kaput..

crashing my computer, each time when plugged in

Then i used my dad's wd 500gb external hdd ca 101 cable..it works perfectly.(mind you that was a quality cable).

Sometimes the link to pc suite goes on and off due to a bad cable.

I at first thought my usb port on the phone had gone, but it works fine now..

Just my 2 cents. :)

@H20

http://cer.opda.cn/en/

register there, and upload the app you want to sign, then download the signed one, quite simple really ;)

Any ideas on a good scratch guard anybody ?

Adpo screen guards are cheap and really good.

@Srirama
Where exactly does one upload the app.? I only see options for uploading certification. Thanks in advance. :)

Is it just me or does the slider to lock or unlock the phone feel flimsy ?

Also does anybody know the price of a 2GB/4GB memory card for the phone.

Also, I am feeling kind of weird in giving my IEMI number to opda, Who are opda and are you sure that they will not misuse the information.

Just visited the local Nokia Priority Dealer here , the newest in the 523x series is released.
Nokia 5235 has all the same features of 5233 with 3g , priced tentatively at 10k...
Thinking about getting that one. What do you think guys?
