^ A cam captures the essence, pp/lightroom adds polish to it. So its somewhat of a 80:20 ratio for an average photo. You basically fiddle with Brightness/Contrast, hue/saturation and levels in photoshop. Use of filters brings about an artistic touch, if things turn out right. In lightroom, you deal with the same color saturation, hues, exposure etc. Pp has too many options cluttered everywhere while lightroom is more camera picture specific and easier to use. To bring out the best effect, you may want to use a combination of both. PP should get its fair share of credit but is most of the time ignored..
Why don't you just take a sample pic, preferrably in raw more and experiment with random sliders in lightroom? That way, you can get to know which does what. All you need for most of the pics is the exposure/fill light/recover/blacks, brightness/contrast tools. The GND filter tool is also Very handy!
