The Photography Thread !

^ Errr .Couldnt think of anything else from my room's small balcony ..Should have taken it from the other rooms for a better angle !

^ here's what best I could do with it... A raw file would've yielded much better! :)

Guys, can also elaborate the PP that is normally done to these pics ?...

The work done by most of the contributors here is really good.. So I was wondering how much credit goes to the PP...

Besides I am yet to Post process, couple dozen pics since long time and I have Lightroom installed but just don't know where to start..

^ A cam captures the essence, pp/lightroom adds polish to it. So its somewhat of a 80:20 ratio for an average photo. You basically fiddle with Brightness/Contrast, hue/saturation and levels in photoshop. Use of filters brings about an artistic touch, if things turn out right. In lightroom, you deal with the same color saturation, hues, exposure etc. Pp has too many options cluttered everywhere while lightroom is more camera picture specific and easier to use. To bring out the best effect, you may want to use a combination of both. PP should get its fair share of credit but is most of the time ignored..

Why don't you just take a sample pic, preferrably in raw more and experiment with random sliders in lightroom? That way, you can get to know which does what. All you need for most of the pics is the exposure/fill light/recover/blacks, brightness/contrast tools. The GND filter tool is also Very handy!

Thanks..will try it in lighroom... I am not very sure if I have the Raw pictures..But will try with whatever I have..

With regards to photoshop, although google will give me a bunch of tuts for post processing.. Are there any basic steps/tuts that should be followed to get a better effect..!!

^ post processing is not the same for every picture that you take..

So for starters you can try the auto features available under images > adjustment

ctrl+shift+L >> Auto levels

Ctrl+shift+B >> Auto color

Alt+shift+ctrl+L >> Auto contrast

Ctrl+B >> Color

Ctrl+U >> hue/sat

I don't own a DSLR or even a camera with manual controls but I'm still posting the pics here. I would love some advice on composition and the general angles etc. All shots have been taken with my Sony P&S

I would really appreciate some advice. DSLR would be a whole new ballgame but I would love to work on the general areas first! :)

^^ All I can say is that your pics show that it isn't always the kit that matters. The person behind the camera is more important. Those are some beautiful shots, and that too coming from a PnS.
