The wet shaving thread

https://www.foxy.in/offers/hajamat-upto-55-off-559129 for anyone looking for shaving soaps and other gear on discount
Honestly I found the site difficult to navigate.
Yea lot of startup brands. Godrej has discontinued shaving rounds so opportunity for others
Godrej still makes the round. Some select cities get it. I got 4-5 shipped from Calcutta a few years ago. 100 / round.

These startup brands are overpriced products (Bombay Company) and try to portray artisan. Try Pearl Shaving--their equipment and soaps are spot on. They just launched an adjustable safety razor. Looks good! I have two of their razors. Open comb is exceptional and a two piece too.

Guys try the Vicco shaving cream. Available on Amazon. It beats any shaving cream hands down. Only downside is it hardens a bit in the winter and in Delhi I add a little hot water in a bowl with the cream and lather it up. But the lather it produces is awesome (in every word).

I read on few sub reddit that it was discontinued from 2021 and the price of 100/round is around 5times its normal price, its also out of stock in most places. If it's not discontinued all the better for us. Was looking at Pearl shaving open comb as a back up body groomer. I'll check it out.

Will try it out. Currently alternating between 4tubes of cream and a soap and 4more soaps on the way.

I know, its rs 20 retail. I still paid 100 per round, cause it's a cult classic. Badger n Blade guys love it. Godrej SR is like: Proraso or Arko in terms of lore and Fandom. The foam it creates is slick and offers glide. But once 20% is left in the puck, it ceases to lather. Not sure why. I still got three unopened pucks left. Someday.....

The chemical smell puts me off. Still have half a puck somewhere. It does make a thick foam granted.

The godrej tubes were as good for foam and smelt better
Your observation is spot-on @blr_p . I tend to shave after a gap of 3 days so I have always had to trim the beard hair first.
Three days shouldn't be too bad. I recall guys posting in this thread that they'd go to a barber once a week. Rs.50. Done.

Any head shavers on the thread?

Looking to move from a Gilette safety razor that's over 20 years old. Any reccos? I'm using 7'o Clock Platinum blades.

The Bombay Shaving company razor is pretty good. Pretty smooth. Almost like the Gillette tech razors.
Ah, thanks for sharing. I've always looked at Bombay SC as some sort of hipster new-age brand that is more show than go. Will defo check them out.

How many days in between shaving?

Any comb razor if you're shaving with some growth. The cheap ones are disposable so you might have to look at those Muhle ones or others
Thanks for this. Shaving is once a week. I'd like to do it at least twice a week, though laziness gets the better of me.

Since you're talking about growth, I think a week without shaving results in ~5mm growth. Doesn't cause a problem wrt to using my Gillette safety razor.

I bought a cheap straight razor from Amazon. Used a slightly older blade (one that was already used for a couple of shaves) with it. There's a steep learning curve to using a straight razor. I'm fine with the nicks, but the time taken is a bit too much. For now, at least, the straight razor is ruled out as a replacement for my trusty (but crusty) old Gillette safety razor.

For your use case I'd recommend using movable razor-head with 3-4 blades. It'll be very fast compared up safety razor. But only catch is, you need to shave twice a week.

But if you are shaving less frequently then no other option than safety razor.

I guess you're referring to those multi-blade razors that Gillette specialise in?

Yes, they're very fast and safe to work with, I have one of those with me.

I mightn't be objective in this assessment but the end result is just not as smooth as with a safety razor.

IMO, Gillet isn't as good as other brands but yeah I'm referring to those razors. Have you tried doing it more frequently? At least twice a week but preferably thrice a week? I think, that should give you smoother result. Shave it in the middle of your shower. It shouldn't take more than a minute. But if you are doing it less frequently, say, once a week then there's no point in using multi-blade razors.

I have used safety razors for many years. Shaved everything except my head. But all in all, I find multi-blade razors easier and faster.
