@Alpha: Have you tried canceling the part where it prompts you to enter the CD-Key? Can you try this once? Just re-install it from scratch on a new partition, cancel the CD key dialog box, close the launcher and start installing the patches. The v1.1 patch in my directory is 28.8MB, v1.2 = 67.9MB, v1.3 = 98.3MB, v1.35 = 72.5MB, v2.0 = 907MB and v2.1 = 65.8MB. I remember getting an error when re-installing the v1.2 patch, but I only had to quit the launcher and re-run the patcher and it worked. All the other patches worked perfectly as well. Make sure you delete the Witcher 2 directories from your 'My Documents' folder as well, then have the remains of the old patcher. Also, is there a possibility of any Anti-Virus software blocking it?

You cannot increase it by buying any new back-packs unfortunately. Some clothing / armour sets / pieces will slightly increment your carrying cap by ~5 -->25. On the other hand, in every tavern / inn there is a extra chest specifically for you to dump stuff that is not required. Be careful though, if you move onto the mission where you cannot access this area this equipment gets lost*.

Ah that's too bad. My current inventory is stuffed with alchemy and crafting items. I have deposited some of my un-used armour & Endegra trophy with the dwarf near the Brothel in Kaedwen. No big loss if the area gets locked out, as I hardly even use those stuff.

Also the latest patch which includes the dark mode has armors that increase the carrying capacity by about 50. You also get a strong back perk if you help

Unfortunately, I'm not playing on the Dark mode. So not a viable option for me.

Where can I check that 'strong back perk'? in my inventory?

You will only get the STRONG BACK Ability if instead of dueling Aryan La Vallete in the Prologue, you had forced him to give up and later help him escape the dungeons with you.
The Witcher is littered with such abilities and traits that grant minor advantages, for e.g. in the quest 'HUNGOVER' if you beat Ves in the throwing knives match you will get a small permanent bonus to the damage applied to your knife throwing ability.
I use the Microsoft Security Essentials that was bundled because I have a legit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium [patched with Service Pack 1], #[member='Ethan_Hunt'] Sire. I will jerry RIG my system onto a net connection tomorrow, update it with everything.
Do a fresh re-install of the game and report to you, lets hope the problem gets ironed out over the weekend. Cheers!!
And once again thanks for all the help.

No worries. Hope things work out for you.

Back to the game, lifted the blood curse off Henselt and defeated the assassin's who tried to barge in later on. What's the max level a player can reach on his first play-through?

Yes the two assassin's are Serrit and Auckes, they are Letho's accomplices and Witchers in training. You will have a flashback that will give you more information on the same.
Well in any playthrough you will hit a level cap ~32 -->35. Now they might have increased it by ~1 -->2 in light of the new DLC's at the tail of the game.
Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Neato! I jumped 3 levels up, right after the blood curse ended. That was kinda odd.

That happens very often in The Witcher, some areas you just keep grinding and don't seem to accumulate any respectable amount of experience to level and just after boss battles / main quest you have a windfall recovery.

As long as it doesn't break the game flow I am happy. Cheers!!

I started the enhanced edition today. Giving decent frames all maxed out(except uber sampling) @1080p fps hovers around 35-45fps..But drops pretty badly during some cutscenes, even goes as low as 15-18..

Does anyone experience this??

How does everybody sound like. It is a torturous engine Sire, for all mid-range cards. It simply buckles everything with its graphical girth.

Sounds normally, but there is a bit of sync problem in A/V when the frame drops, nothing major though.

Which, you have a GTX 280. Hmmm... I have a HD 5770 1GB coupled with a AMD Phenom IIx4 965 B.E 3.4GHz @1.3 v and 6GB RAM, all this outputs on a 20" screen of resolution -- 1600 x900. Now my biggest issues whilst gaming at high settings are --
  1. Screen tearing, in the cut-scenes. I have to live with it. Audio LAG creeps in rarely.
  2. Almost omnipresent texture tears / erratum / random artefacts on screen, not to bad again live with it.
  3. Overall playable on the high settings, minus uber-sampling and a few other effects toned down.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Yep. The enhanced edition screwed this up. Just disable the 'Cinematic depth of field' & 'Depth of Field - Cutscenes' option from the advanced graphics option.

Yeah it seems so, everyone's suggesting to turn it off..

I have a 560Ti now..GTX 280 giving 40 fps at 1080p maxed out!, no way man!

It's not a huge compromise Ram. Just switch it off. I have a GTX560Ti as well and get the same performance as you do. Heck, you have a much better processor than mine. The game still looks stunning.

Yeah game looks stunning also loving the combat in this game, off the very little I played I find it much much better than skyrim(Just comparing the combat and the way game's story is narrated)

Welcome to the party man. Once Alpha gets his game working, we'll have a kick-ass time discussing it right left and center.

It's way better and much more engaging than Skyrim. Keep playing and you'll really have a ball. Pop in, if you have any queries.

Morning man. Replied to your PM.

I'm close to completing the game right now. Got to play the new quests added specifically for the Enhanced Edition. I need to know something about Roche:

Why did Roche conspire against Henselt? How did Henselt learn of this conspiracy? from Dethmold?

Why did Roche conspire against Henselt? How did Henselt learn of this conspiracy? from Dethmold?
Well do you remember that conversation between Triss and Roche, when we land at Flotsam. It seems casual banter and goes something like this --
Triss: We are in a Forest.
Roche: The question is whose forest is it?
Triss: Iorveth maybe! I know more about this tract of land than you think, for e.g. I know you took over this land from Aedirn a few years earlier for Foltest.
[then the Iorveth cut-scene ensues]
Basically, there a lot of hints that the various rulers of the north are forever in turmoil. Something that plays them into the hands of the Nilfgaardians.
You will also notice that Roche makes this statement several times --
"I do the work that no one else can."
Basically he is a patriot, spy, commando, terrorist and trusty commander all rolled into one.
Iorveth is his nemesis in the factor that he is a natural leader, charismatic believer, a person who has been wronged and wants revenge, also it has been stereotyped that elves are beautiful and graceful sentient with a very advanced culture in every book / film. In The Witcher universe, they were all this and more but the arrival of humans in their land destroyed that and very soon they will all die, the difference is some will die like lambs led to their slaughter whilst others do not mind fighting with till this end.
When you see both the cut-scenes for the Iorveth arc and the Roche arc you will understand the depth of the story that the end in The Witcher is the common focal point, it is the path that is different and the actions-reactions that resonate differently.
If you enjoyed the game I recommend that you read the books by Andrzej Sapkowski.
May your sword stay sharp. Witcher!!
