The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings - Discussion Thread

Dammit, out of space on the hard-drive, shifted all my pre-downloaded files onto the XP RIG, now a query.

Does the Enhanced Edition make the Witcher 2's file size 15GB [original install] +15GB [Enhanced Edition] = ~30GB. If this is the size, I am out of action till mid May. Damn you MTNL.

You mean the installed game directory size? My total size of the installed directory, post EE patch, stands at 18.2GB.

Now a question to you:

I re-loaded one of my save which was At a Crossroads: Roche. I had helped Roche before the fight with Letho. Is this a bad idea or should I load the save where I meet up with Iorveth for the first time to get At a Crossroads: Scoiatel?

#[member='Ethan_Hunt'] Sire, the answer to this query --

It is fine irrespective of who you helped before, as long as you go to the appropriate meetings and tell them you are fine to continue, their story arc.
If you think that betraying Iorveth whilst Roche attacks is going to spoil your chances, have no fear. If Iorveth gets captured you speak to a dwarf in his stead and you will still be capable of rescuing him OR if he is still not captured you can talk him and formulate a plan to ambush Flotsam's garrison.
I think initially whilst installing, the packages need to be expanded thereby compounding this issue.

no dude, the full thing is not 30GB, but the way downloader works is it first downloads samller 50MB sized files. Then reassembles all of them to make the bigger .bin files. Then finally it deletes the smaller downloaded files. So, when the reassembling is going on, the total size of the folder doubles. But, once the process is completed, it comes back to the size shown. Hope this answers why you ran out of space.

Hi #[member='pretttt'], thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I will still not have enough space, irrespective of the parameters you delineated.

Regards,

Okay re-downloaded the corrupted bin file TWEE_12.bin and again the installation ends up with the CookedPC error and the same file is corrupt, feeling increasingly irritated.

I think if I am able to pre-order on flipkart.com I will do so and sell of this copy to someone who has the internet bandwidth to place on it.

I think I'll re-load Ioverth's first meet save, as I'll try to pick up the 'Hang Over' side quest, that I missed during my first play-through.

In the HUNGOVER quest, try to beat Ves at knife throwing it will get you a small perk, adds permanent damage on throwing knife skill.
May your sword stay sharp, Witcher!!

I hardly ever use the 'throwing knife' in combat, so that would be useless for me.

Okay I tried to run the Patcher_1.1 International on the PC connected to internet and I am hit by the same error, this version of the game invalid OR incomplete.

Started my play-through on Iorveth's path. Completed the 'Hung Over' side quest and it was quite amusing. The events change so drastically after helping Iorveth out. So far I love this path more than Roche's. I have already paused to re-think the choice I made in 'The Floating Prison' quest. I have 2 questions:

1.) I didn't get 'Margot's disappearance' quest in this path. Is it because Darae is killed and Margot hands over the note to pass it onto Iorveth?

2.) What was a better choice in the 'Floating Prison' quest? Saving those Elven women? or Hacking off Loredo? I did both and have both the save files with me. I didn't gain anything in particular from saving the women, except Iorveth's & the ladies good graces. But I got an armour enhancement and the 'Royal mail key' by defeating Loredo. Now morally, I'm inclined to continue feeling I saved those women, but rationally, I benefit from the stuff that I got from Loredo. What importance does that key have? If not much, then I'll go with my choice of saving the ladies.

#[member='Ethan_Hunt'] -- never butchered Loredo on the Iorveth story arc, so cannot comment how the key helps.
The Windows XP set-up is also not responding to the 1.1_Patcher International. Same error,
Let me download the Enhanced Edition on this PC and see how things work out. A question all the 1.1 version available for download are ~10.4MB --> 15.8MB, while my earlier patch was ~22MB. Can this be an issue.
Thanks for all the help and inconvenience caused is regretted.
May your sword stay sharp, Witcher!!

Thanks for all the help Allwayn. This is the last attempt to resurrect this copy, else this goes onto the TE Market thread. I do not have the bandwidth to place on it and I am getting impatient.
However how is it on Iorveth's path, have you reached Vergen --
  • Got your reward for saving the Elven damsels in distress [in Flotsam]?
  • Did you play the Succubus quest, really a logic based puzzler that I enjoyed and the reward for concluding it correctly are good too.

I really hope it works out for you man. I can't imagine having to wait all this time just to jump-start the installation.

About the game:

I haven't yet explore Vergen completely. But I'm sure I'll end up receiving the reward sooner or later.

I'm on that quest, as we speak. On my first attempt, I just decided to slay the succubus and collect the reward from Ele'yas. But it just doesn't seem right, I'm replaying it again and this time, I'm planning to accuse Ele'yas. Although, it seems a bit dicey, considering all the marks on the victims body (in the Catacombs investigation) seem to point towards the succubus. Also, I just walked in on Philippa Eilhart while she was being "serviced" by her assistant.

I am still waiting for Flipkart to stock the enhanced edition. Stopped playing to make way for Skyrim and ME3, will start afresh with the new enhancements.

Ummm... for this --
  • Exit Vergen's main gate and head down the path that leads to the Battlefield.
  • On the left there will be a path leading inside, a small carriage and house will be there.
  • Also one of the Elven maids you rescued will be present.
  • Talk to her, and get 'rewarded'.

Oh for properly unmasking Ele'yas, you will need to do a few things --
  • You know the hairstylist of Vergen, she also stocks a few surgical tools, purchase those from her. She also has a book on autopsies.
  • Investigate the dead bodies in the CATACOMB. After the first two steps and be thorough about this, you will soon get evidence.
  • Next blame Ele'yas, he will deny the act. Go to Iorveth and confront him with the proof.
  • Iorveth will allow you to 'handle the case as you see fit'.
  • Encounter Ele'yas and take care of him. Enjoy the reward, also if possible send Dandelion inside, what ensues is quite funny.
Also do not forget the Harpy quest, you get a rather sweet Silver-Sword aptly title "Harpy". Watch yourself slice to waves of Harpies.
Before entering ACT III do let me know.
May your sword stay sharp, Witcher!!
What do you mean by this?
Wait and watch I say, Sire. Wait and watch.

Ok, you guys have me interested, is it necessary to play the prequel or can i dive right into this one?
