Do you need to play Witcher -1 before playing Witcher-2? any story continuation or level and item carry on?

Depends on you Sire, though it is not a hard and fast affirmative OR negatory. I have played both games and yes there is a great continuity.

The Witcher 2: Assassin's of Kings, get its sub-title from the epilogue of the first game.

Certain choices and decisions that you made in the latter reflect on how certain parties / characters react to you. Also several characters make a cameo appearance and the story can be altered by the presence of these characters. No items get carried over.

Any queries, side-quest issues, please post here.

Hope you enjoy the game and may your sword stay sharp, Witcher!!

Never played and don't know about this game, but have heard its a great game..

Saves do carry over and even though this game has a fresh storyline, there are certain aspects which are connected to the first game. So it's not entirely necessary to play the first, but it helps if you do.

The story line is not exactly fresh, it is a continuation from the Epilogue of The Witcher. It is from the events of this epilogue that the second game gets its title -- Assassin of Kings.

In ACT III depending on whether you have played The Witcher [and corresponding choices in-game], there is a substantial difference in how you can get inside Loc Muinne. A particular character makes a cameo appearance as well as makes a few choices easier on you.

This is not a spoiler, but meesa played both games so mentioning.

But I cancelled my order, because I registered myself for the free redeemable copy of my disc game from GoG.com. I am hoping that once I get internet up and running [hopefully by next week], I would download this edition and try to run it.

Apart from this I have a small insurance in the form of Altair who downloaded the *AHEM* game and I will get in touch on this weekend to get the game. Want to replay and review this title.

Thanks for all the help, Secret_Agent man I will see you soon in Dark Soul's [hoping they release it in India]. Cheerio!!
No problemo buddy...I hope my exam gets over soon will start it then

Finally got the copy

I was pleasantly surprised by the package. A game guide, soundtrack dvd and user manual, plus the free code for GOG.com copy. No CD key needed while installing, no DRM at all :D
After all this always on DRMs and online activation, this was a breath of fresh air. I realized that even with Steam offline mode, if my connection goes down for a day, there are very few recent games I will be able to play, this being one of them.

Cheers to CD Projekt !!

Thanks for vindicating my stand and showing support to a 'true' developer team / organization that is passionate about its games and fans.

Hope you enjoy the game and may your sword stay sharp, Witcher!!

P.S. -- I really want this game now. I mean this particular copy, already had the original but now it is not running properly. Makes me mad

The CE of the original game included a papercraft kit of Geralt. I recall Touzeen posting that elsewhere. Missing from the Enhanced Edition?

jc36lect3r: That map made of cloth? Or paper? Looks slick! Don't you have one for Skyrim as well?

Anyways congrats! Have a solid time Dovahkiin. :P

Yeah I have that edition [earlier], the map is a paper print, high quality stuff and two paper-crafts [One Geralt + one random]. If you have this edition of the game, you can download a DRM free copy and A LOAD of feelies from GoG.com.

CD PROJECKT RED is a rather generous PC developer.

You have a copy of the game don't you Gannu, do give it a rerun it is worth it. Cheerio!!

The map is made from glossy paper. No papercraft kit :) Yes the Skyrim pack had a map as well. It was huge !! I though of putting it up in my room but then I took an arrow to the knee :yay:

The Enhanced Edition disc version seems like the best deal at the moment. Especially, for people with relatively slower Internet connections and limited monthly download quota. Digital download would be a pretty heavy one.

EDIT: Patch 3.1 is up. Link: Patch 3.1

Update log:

Version 3.1 Corrections/Amendments (18th May 2012)
  1. Fixed the display of inter-chapter movies in aspect ratios other than 16:9.
  2. Fixed bugs causing the application to close while opening the credits.
  3. Relevant Aspect Ratio options are shown in the Configurator.exe if nVidia Surround is supported.
  4. Game saves from Act 2 created on older versions of the game are now compatible with the Enhanced Edition, which fixes the dwarven mechanism in Vergen.
  5. Added a fix for .NET Framework 4-related issues for the Steam users.
