Thanks Anubis for PM, I didn't knew. I am trying this on my Nokia 5800. using DAD's postpaid sim which has Unlimited GPRS as part of plan. I confirmed by cc, service is activated already.

First, I am trying to open Websites normally via GPRS/EGDE but its not opening due to error "Packet Data Connection Not Available".I also got settings but something is wrong?

Here are the settings I am using

Connection Name: BSNL GPRS

Data Bearer: Packet Data

Access Point name: gprsnorth.cellone.in

username: none

promt password: no

password: blank

Authentication:normal

HomePage: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.- India's No. 1 Telecommunications Company

Network Type: IPv4

Phone IP address: Automatic

Proxy server address: 10.220.67.131

proxy post number:8080

can anyone tell if these settings are correct? once I get GPRS running, I would try using 3G

After the launch of 3G all BSNL GPRS settings are going haywire. I tried BSNL Portal and all other but only 1 is working

Connection Name : BSNL Live

BSNL Live is the one connection working for me and all others have failed . I don't know what is wrong but guys try bsnllive when you are opening your browser.

Yes to me all the other settings failed giving "Packet Data Connection Not Available" . But bsnllive is the setting working for me . Try it

Tried with my BSNL connection and unlimited GPRS in Nokia 5230. Unsuccessful and says " network not available".

Have you tried switching to Manual Network Selection . Then select UMTS .

Try BSNL Live settings for opening your browser . After the launch of 3G , BSNL GPRS settings are going haywire . All other Connection settings have failed me but only BSNL Live is working as the connection for opening a browser

Try these settings.

Though on Nokia 5800XM i don't get as many options as these.Go to Connectivity>Destinations>Uncategorised>bsnllive

Set bsnllive as the default connection setup for connecting to internet through browser

Update :

BSNL 3G workaround does not work in PC or laptops (confirmed yesterday)

BSNL 3G can be used in normal 2G sim cards. I called their CC & they told me when changing from 2G to 3G there is no sim change, only plan change.

I have been using this trick for 5months now.. It worked on pc earlier but nowadays its not.
And 2G to 3G conversion can be done by sending sms.

Where do you stay brother ? Then we can atleast confirm one more place where this workaround is working

Oh , please don't mind . I didn't want to irritate you or anyone else. Its just that the thread's positioning is so bad that very few users will actually look at this thread . So i just wanted to share with everyone about this workaround.

Really Very Sorry to everyone for pestering and wasting their valuable time

Sadly I it doesn't work on computers using phone as modem

BSNL/MTNL has capped it there to prevent misuse and excessive downloading through torrents etc.

no i didnt mean to say i was irritated or anything :) i did find this thread useful - only my problem is that i dont use 3G due to lack of devices for now....
