thanks anubis - i am at kolkata
whats the best way to contact you - can u pm me your mobile number?

Brother , the only way to contact me is through TE and gtalk id

You can collect a BSNL 2G sim from your local exchange or any BSNL distributor in your area

I myself live in Kolkata and using this workaround for 3 months now

I get speeds of 70-90kbps depending on signal strength and distance from exchange's tower
i think 3g in newly launched in ur area. because i too use to get gud speeds with 3g(on 2g sim) when it was newly launched in my area. but after 3months it was back to 25-30.:)

Brother I have been using it since December 2009 . Anyways , I just wanted to share with everybody so that they can exploit the loophole too

Thats abt 11 /12 KBps ?

Don't know bout that , but for my BSNL boradband , I get 560-700kbps max

I never convert it to Bytes/sec because everywhere in India the general norm is to give bytes/sec as unit

Can anyone from Pune confirm whether this thing works or not ???
Moreover as i saw someone mentioned that it does not work on laptop / computer using phone as modem, please confirm.

hey great tip this one... well i have a 2g bsnl prepaid sim with ultd gprs... i am using htc android magic... anyway to make this work on my phone as well ?

Come on guys , Please do REP me if you found the workaround valuable .

I get around 160kbps(20kBps) in my docomo gprs! Guess bsnl 3g is an illusion?

^^ Anubis means 70-90 KB/s...ppl tend to quote whatever they see in download managers or browsers ir in KB/s

@Anubis

Can you confirm whether you are able to use it on laptop and get similar speeds ??

Was able to use it on Laptop for December 2009 , but later BSNL stopped it for misuse through torrents etc

Anyways , I have tried it on Laptop this Sunday . Didn't work . Confirmed , its not working on Laptop

I have BSNL postpaid GPRS but this trick doesnt work here in pune. I got 3.5G signal everywhere. Created new connection bsnllive as mentioned in previous post but its not working here

What is your model no of your phone ?

Requirments - 3G phone and 3G or 2G sim. 3G network. I would preffer os9.2 phones. Because these phones have some significant features. This trick is for os 9.1 or other higher level phones which dont reboot when we change the network mode. Example-5320 xm, 5800, n95 etc n E series full.

FOR OTHER PHONES

Here is for other phones os8, os8.1, os9, os9.1rn- if u have n73, n72, n70, 6630 etc mobiles it is more difficult for them. For n73 or other UMTS phones of this range dont use UMTS mode. Use dual mode in ur network. Find an area in ur home where u don't get 3G network. When u gets only 2 parellel signal means only 2G signal open ur browser n open google.com. It is light site n will nt cost more than 1 paisa. Then come to 3G area. U'll get service msg that ur 1 paisa has been deduct. Then enjoy ur 3G free of cost.USE bsnlnet as apn instead of bsnlgprs.

This workaround is confirmed working with Nokia phones s60 v3 , s60 v5 phones .

With 2G sim and 3.5G network, apn = bsnlnet and cellphone = nokia5800xm, I am getting this speed on my computer.

That is what I said . You are getting 2G speed in computer.

We cannot use this workaround in PC / Laptop due to blockage by BSNL to avoid misuse through torrents etc
