well i use handbrake and moboplayer. Handbrake converted videos uses hardware decoding hence better performance and better battery life.

Lot of activity going on at Modaco in the ICS thread. The current alpha ROM now has Wifi and single point touch working. At this rate, I guess we should have a pretty decent working ROM in a month.

Super!! Contemplating putting off my purchase of a more powerful phone if this is true. (My biggest gripe with the Blade is the sub-par camera and sound quality/output via my current headphones)

What's with the extremely annoying and intrusive ads being shown on TE. I have no desire to see anushka sharma adverts when browsing a tech forum.

I am not sure what ads there are but i am sure we can do with them to keep this wonderful forum to go on and on. Ads form a part of the revenue for the forum (i think). May be put a ad blocker / flash block to block them.

On topic:

The Blade is one hell of a phone which has been tested time and again and have come out with flying colors. Now ICS on blade..awesome :yahoo:

I have a pretty good ad blocker installed, don't see much anywhere. Except right here. In the example i've posted, it's a static ad. The anushka sharma one i mentioned is actually with audio/video. Very annoying to hear her squawk about some mobile she wants us to buy. And it's inserted into the first post instead of at the top like a banner.

Guys im planing on getting this phone...

my choices are -

1. XCD35 (For an year and then get a better phone) [more inclined towards this phone]

or

2. Spice MI-410 (Use for 2-3 years) [will get this if the below requirements do not fulfill]

So which would be a better choice?

My only requirements are it should be able to play xvid (dvdrips 700mb ones) and mainly BoB reenc, minishares x264 480p tv shows and youtube 360p videos out of the box or with a decent player(by decent i mean decent frame rates w/o frame drops or the buggy bad interface ones)

i currently have 5230 ...which plays xvid but skips a lot of frames when it comes to playing x264 and 360p youtube videos with ucplayer(which is a very buggy app)

and yeah how long does the battery life last while watching videos say x264 360p ones?

my 5230 lasts for 6 episodes of 42min ones so that's approx 4hours on a complete charge

and of course the music quality(not through default earphone) should on-par if not improvement over my 5230

btw i have pl11 earphones

So does it play xvid (dvdrips 700mb ones) and BoB reenc, minishares x264 480p tv shows and youtube 360p videos

why do u convert the videos other than the above mentioned reason...

im asking this because i watch all my tv shows on my mobile...and converting each of them every day would be a daunting task

@ v.Na5h

I owned a 5230 and a 5233 before buying the Blade. The audio quality is slightly better on those Nokia phones. As for the comparison between the Blade and the Mi410, I've again used both phones and the current price difference of ~6k is not worth it, IMO. Yes, the Mi 410 has a larger display and a 1GHZ processor with Adreno 205, but it also has an equally poor camera (albeit with flash), a much worse display in terms of colour reproduction and contrast, and lack of good custom ROMs. It might get CM9 ported by their top modder TJ Styles, but his CM7 itself has a lot of bugs currently, so I wouldn't hold on to that. As a phone intended for 2-3 years, I do not think the Mi 410 will give you good VFM. The option of buying the Blade for now and upgrading sounds better.

The video player test results from my side using various players which i already have in my Blade....

1. Rock Player Test (Software decoding mode, h/w decoding does not work)

a. 350 MB episode of House MD, container AVI, video mpeg4 and audio mp3 - Works (only jitters a bit when on screen controls are visible)

b. 350 MB episode of House MD, container AVI, video mpeg4 and audio ac3 - Not Working (only video shows, no audio)

c. 75 MB episode of Arrested Development, container MKV, video H264, audio aac - Not working (video very jitterly, may be 5 fps types, no audio) - WTF this is exactly i needed to watch

d. 150 MB episode of Mentalist , same specs as above (c), same result

2. Mob player test

a. 350 MB episode of House MD, container AVI, video mpeg4 and audio mp3 - Works

b. 350 MB episode of House MD, container AVI, video mpeg4 and audio ac3 - Works

c. 75 MB episode of Arrested Development, container MKV, video H264, audio aac - Not working (video very jitterly, may be 5 fps types, audio breaking every second)

d. 150 MB episode of Mentalist , same specs as above (c), same result

I am sure the Mob player has the V6 plugin because last time i installed it, it did mention that my phone was V6 and it needed to download the V6 version which i did.

^^The MKVs i have are probably not high bitrate. As you can check above, they are 75Mb or 150MB per episode (40 min i guess). Now i think i will install all the video players available and do a test when my main player (as of now rock player) fails to play the file. Can anyone list down all the video players compatible with blade ??

I know are..

1. Rock Player

2. Mobo Player

3. yxplayer

Unconfirmed

1. Vplayer

2. Mplayer (need to download from xda)

3. Vplayer advance

4. Act 1 .....something

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Also anyone here using the new Portuguese spring ROM ? How is it ? Any point in changing over from SS RLS5 ?

They have mentioned that wipe is not needed if coming from SS, anyone tried ?

Btw in general the sound output on blade (esp with my video watching on rock/mobo player) is less than what i desire. Any solution for this ?

I have pretty much given up on the video playing part in blade. If you see few posts above, you will see my test results using couple of most popular players.

For me the 45 min / 350 MB episodes work fine (i guess should be similar bitrate to a 700 MB rip) but do stutter a few times.

I though i will convert all videos in some standard format and then copy back but the efforts is not worth it and on top of that i dont have a laptop with high end proccy to do that. Instead now i am carrying my PMP (yes the chinese one :P) to watch my TV series while travelling in company bus.

So those were pretty old posts digged them out...

Guess u should have found out working players by now

So does any of the player work for 70mb episodes? :(

B]c. 75 MB episode of Arrested Development, container MKV, video H264, audio aac - Not working (video very jitterly, may be 5 fps types, no audio)

BTW how is that possible even my 5230 plays it with better FPS

Would have gone through the whole thread but exams going on ...

so need to be spoon fed :(

gosh why do i always feel the urge to buy/research gadgets during exams

I recently RMAed my gen2 froyo XCD35(stock). I have received the 2.1 gen.1 model instead.

Does it make a difference if I am planning to root it anyway?

My Handbrake profile . 800x480 gives me come problems when I look for options inside the player. So i use 720x480.

no need for all that drama. just go to settings, followed by zte blade settings and run the proximity calibration.

and make sure nothing is in proximity to the proximity sensor before calibrating ! ;)

Is it on CM7 ? I can't find zte blade settings under settings :O

I'm also having issues with proximity sensor not working in call on Gen 2 Dell XCD35 cm7 7.1.0 :(

The newer nightlies have the setting under Settings->Device Settings. The older ones had a separate app in the app drawer called ZTE Blade settings.

I suffering from problem with touch screen of my San Francisco AMOLED version

It needs to touch hard on screen for functions

So Urgently need some help ???

I need a Dell XCD35/ZTE Blade/OSF cover for a friend. Does anyone have a spare cover? Preferably a silicon cover and unused.
