Ola launches Shakti Powerstation for home

I don’t think it’s a hybrid inverter either.

Looking at only the storage aspect this looked like a better deal to me. But if if ships with an inverter and charge controller, the Ola offering might be a better deal? Is it expandable?

F this company, its shitty products and its founder Melon Musk.

Has Luminous launched their Helios range of Li-ion batteries? I think there will be more brands launching this type of products soon. Home UPS market is perfectly poised for a major revamp

I recently started looking into LiFePO4 based inverters & UPS. Sharing some information I gathered (note that I am not recommending any of these companies because I don’t know if they are good, currently in the phase of gathering info, all of them are using Chinese imported batteries):

5 kWh LifePO4 battery used for solar costs Rs. 80000.

Hykon Halo Home UPS: https://www.hykonindia.com/category/ups-and-inverters/

  • 1.28kWh inverter with LiFePO4 battery: Rs. 34999
  • 2.56KWh inverter with LiFePO4 batter: Rs. 69999

Hykon Hilife LiFeP04 Battery Pack: HiLIFE Lithium Batteries for Inverters
An YouTube comment I saw showed these prices, website shows higher price.

  • 100 AH, 12 V: Rs. 21000

  • 100 AH, 24 V: Rs. 42000

Regarding Ola- as others I have pointed out, this being Lithium Ion (and not LiFePO4) is a deal breaker, since LiFePO4 is safer from fire risks as far as I understand. Ola’s history of scooter battery fires, pathetic after sales support, Ola CEO’s comments on work life balance being a western concept, at least 2 employee suicides - I am staying away from Ola.

Yes ola shakti can be paralleled to several units according to Q&A in the launch event. Most of the Taiwan and China solar inverters that have parallel capabilty is limited to 9 units. With the abilty to make 3 phase mainly useful for 3 phase motors. Not sure if Ola can do it this way or its just single phase parallel.

I was actually wondering if they will give a good quality fire extinguisher free with each

powerwall

I don’t think a fire extinguisher is enough if anything goes awry with powerwalls in houses.

I think Ola is one lawsuit away from finding its CEO in London.

Makes you wonder what are folks waiting for. To get garlanded for free ?

Looks like OLA Graveyard with Tombstones that read out Registration Numbers. Yikes. Thanks for the link share. Shared it with someone who wants to try out/Test Ride all EV Scooters and was considering OLA.

Anyway the competition is getting ready for a slew of products in the LiPo Home Battery + Inverter sector. Already hearing rumours from Luminous, Microtek & Private players for new model releases from Feb 2026.

That said it is looking interesting.

On one hand our very own @rsaeon is meddling with LiFePO projects and on the other we are eagerly awaiting new products so that we don’t have to meddle with Batteries, Electricity and get shocked.

My 1150w solar panel can produce 1kwh easily any day. Lowest I saw was 0.5kwh in a day. This was just 2 days in a year. Max I saw is 6kwh in a day. These days 5kwh. My battery pack of 2.4kwh lifepo4 gets full easily. And goes to float charge more often these days. This will change depending on your location.

Ola shakti is only battery. I think the price is on the higher side. If their service is good, than the price justifies it. My 2.4kwh lifepo4 battery was around ₹22,500. It can charge at 2.4kw and discharge at 2.4kw. And lifepo4 lifecycle is 3x more than 1000 as quoted by ola shakti.

If you can’t diy, I think it will be far better to buy from a more reputed company in your area with good warranty and invest in inverter, solar and battery if you can bear with the price premium. If I had the money I would buy deye hybrid inverter with their 5-10 year warranty(6kw around ₹90k). For battery I don’t know the best brand.

That video makes me feel like a kid in a candy/toy store — I’d be gutting out all of those scooters and making off with their battery packs haha.

When I received my Luminous Optimus inverter from Amazon last year, there was a stray wire inside that blocked the exhaust fan. I was able to open it and reroute the wire to clear the obstruction (and void the warranty) while a regular consumer would be expected to call Luminous’s customer care and schedule for a technician to come and fix it, potentially taking days or weeks for a 10 minute fix that should never have been an issue in the first place.

I’m sure the issues with the scooter is a similar oversight with design/assembly but requires far more man-hours than what Ola can afford. They hoped that manufacturing their own cells from scratch would work out in the long run and they would be able to undercut their competition who relied on Chinese imports (wild claims on my part).

Basically they thought they had the recipe for a hatrick and ended up with a dislocated shoulder at the first ball instead (I haven’t watched cricket in 20 years — there was nothing beating Sachin being the opening batsman and staying not out until the end).

It’s salvageable but Ola doesn’t appear to have the right head space to figure out a solution. I’m guessing their perspective would be like Einstein and the cost/benefit/time issue of ironing his own clothes vs solving e=mc²

Most EV companies are like this, Tesla is a notable example. They just iterate and fix the issue while abandoning whatever already has been manufactured/shipped/purchased.

Of course, it’s the customer that suffers the company’s ambition.

They wouldn’t be trying to put nmc cells in that, would they?

Same here.

Most of the issues will be just minor, unless its a mechanical issue. I read some where that Ola has also started selling spare parts, so that your average road side garage can fix stuff.

I think they are just following Tesla with their powerwall which also has a NMC or NCA.

Since making a battery cell factory is a big deal and they started using those 4680 cells in only a few models mostly their vehicles with the biggest size pack in excess of 5kWh. Since that will be the minimum capacity they can achieve with 4680 with 48V to 60V voltage range and since there won’t be much takers for this size of capacity. It makes economic sense to make use of those cells in a inverter and Ola said the profit margin is more.

the founder even copies what the other one does.

the product (scooter) itself was a from a Dutch startup. nothing groundbreaking or innovative. just that they had the Ola (again with the uber inspiration) momentum going and that made it easier. the first buyers definitely got shortchanged.

i was very very keen on buying the first model by Ather and i am glad that i didn’t. rode the Ola S1 a few times and it’s definitely not what i’d like to spend my money on.

To acquire other companies and technologies is quite fine, that’s the way it is in business, but should be able to successfully utilize that resource and opportunity too.

Everybody want to make it quick rich by copying ideas from USA, without any idea how local economy works or purposefully exploiting the local market.
