Budget 31-40k 27 inch 1440p 144hz+ IPS Monitor Suggestions

Hello All,

Looking to upgrade from my Dell U2717 D ( 27", 2k, 60hz) to a either a dual setup or single monitor with dual purpose :

1. 2k 120 hz for gaming paired with my 2070 super
2. 4k 60 hz for my ps4pro and (to upgrade to ps5 at a later date)

Would buying 2 separate monitors for each purpose be better?
is there a 4k 120 Hz monitor which fits the bill for both purposes?

Ive collated all the 2k 120Hz+ monitors in the thread to compare, but as expected, 4k 120 hz monitor options are few and far in between.
The only one Ive been able to find is the BenQ mobius.

I personally run a 27" 1440p 165Hz & 24" 1080p 165Hz monitors, the latter being my old monitor. I will say 2 monitors are better than one, if you use 2nd monitor properly with PC.

For 4K 144Hz, just get LG 27GN950 for 60-64k. It lacks HDMI 2.1 though, so no 4K 120Hz on consoles. Considering you have a 2070S, it is not up to the mark for 4K gaming, same as PS5. Games like Horizon Forbidden West run at 4K 30fps at quality mode or 1800p 60fps on performance mode on a PS5. So just a few light games that will ever run at 4K 120fps, which even your PC will be able to do. If you think you will be upgrading GPU in the next 1-2 years to something like RTX 4070 or 4080, maybe worth investing in a 4K gaming monitor.

IMO you should get a 2K 144Hz monitor for PC & a 43" 4K 60Hz TV. You can opt for maybe Samsung Frame 43" for 55k or so & get a monitor like Acer XV272U for 25k. Else, get a 4K 60Hz IPS monitor for 30-35k instead of another TV, if 43" seems large.

msi has got 32 ips 4k 2.1 hdmi support. looks promising.

Dont trust MSI. I faced a lot of problems with MSI motherboards. Their RMA is good but who knows when they will degrade. So better buy brands like Asus, LG etc.

Bit high response times, but good deal indeed. Check rtings review.

4K on 27 inch is really so small. Even I sometimes find 2k small on the screen. Small means due to high res, things are small. You can magnify it but what’s the use. In gaming more details is the only benefit but for that paying 20k more is not worth it if we are tak ling about lg9504k version. Just a thought.

I think right now it only makes sense to go with either a 2k/144+Hz monitor in around 30-40k price or just wait for higher end 4k oled monitors/tv to launch & their prices to trickle down to somewhat acceptable level. By that time, hopefully 60-70 class GPUs might become powerful enough to handle 4k resolutions at acceptable performance level too.

I really think if you are going to be spending upwards of 50-60k on a monitor right now, you should be getting something around 32inch or greater size with 4k/120+Hz & HMDI 2.1 standard(To ensure PS5/Series X compatibility). Also, at that size & resolution you would want the monitor to be good for content consumption as well(Because who wants to have a separate TV at that point for their bedroom?) so getting something with good HDR capability (Oled/Micro Led/FALD) makes a lot of sense. I know this is wishful thinking right now, but hopefully it will become a reality in the next couple of years. This is what I think, otherwise the price delta between a 2k & 4k monitors right now, with standard input options & old led tech isn't worth the premium IMO. If you really need 4k right now, you should really consider a separate TV with oled tech.
